  • List without magic viable these days?

  • I think this is a surprisingly effective patch for VS, especially for internal balance. But we should also see it in the context: a lot of our opponents also got severe price reductions.

  • I don't understand the price increase for Bowmen and Brigands. Are they so popular?

  • If a majority of players shares a specific opinion, in that case about Lancers, it will have influence on lists and also on the price. It is very good that with the new mechanic, the crowd decides and not some few guys. At least it is the same goal of balanced armies and many different lists, that all try to achieve. Unfortunately it might still take a while until good pricing is reached. Best way to accelerate this is to play as many tournaments as possible, keep the overpriced stuff out of you…

  • Quote from jaith1: “8 lancers currently cost 335 points while 5 rymas currently cost 340. Your statement would suggest that we are either in the sweet spot or very close to the sweet spot. ” Yes, I think we are already quite close.

  • From my gut feeling 10 Lancers are more versatile and effective than 5 Rhymas. This is certainly just an assumption, but if those were costed similar, I think Rhymas will not see enough games. I think about 8-9 Lancers costing as much as 5 Rhymas could be the sweet spot.

  • When comparing Flame Wardens and Citizen Spears, their roles might overlap, but I clearly see different strengths. Flame Wardens are with their ++ far better in fighting killy opponents and far better when attacking Res5 targets. Spears are far better when fighting opposing infantry, not because of their attacks, but because of their more ranks. Wardens might need three turns to grind down a Gobin unit, while Spears can break them already after two turns. Role overlap? Sure, but with different f…

  • There are myriads of units which very similar in mechanics, indicating major role overlaps. This is not a major problem to have in design. Look at mentioned KoE cavalry or VS infantry. Rhymas and Lancers are not even close to be the two most similar units within one army. Having redundant units for same or similar role will make them both cheaper and make more players wanting to have this specific role in their army. Redundant units are a method to highlight a focus of the army, because of their…

  • I don't think it is necessary to have completely different roles for two units. Roles can overlap, there is no issue. Balancing mechanism will make both units playable. Result will be that if you have redundant units for the same purpose, both their price will be lower than if you only had one of them in the book. It just takes a while for the prices to settle at the right spot.

  • Youre right. I always forget about those abusers.

  • I think FieR for Lancers is a nice idea. Makes even larger units interesting. FieR for Lancers should imho not cost any additional points, because base unit cost is defined by effectiveness of 5 large units, and additional models cost is defined by effectiveness of units 10-12 large. FieR is not adding any value to units up to 10, it is just compensating the diminishing returns for units larger than 10. Moreover FieR is already appealing in HE army for the spears. It adds only very few additiona…

  • I think that Lancers and Rhymas already have separate roles, separate enough to justify two different units. The question is more whether Lancers are already cheap enough to make their role useful enough to justify paying for it. Any role is disposable.

Quote from duxbuse: “I support removing winged reapers from the book. ” Maybe a bit off topic, but I want to pick this up and think a bit about this. Sure, nothing for current update but probably something for the LAB: VC have a lot of units, making huge (maybe unnecessary) complexity. But I think removing something completely is not good, because of people's model collections. But what about merging some elements into one unit? Vampire Spawns and Winged Reapers could be the same unit. Maybe wit…

Quote from Furion: “Comparing unit efficiency vs 100% best counter is just a stupid way to compare things. If you plan is to tank toxic shots on your expensive cavalry, then it doesn't matter if they cost 200 or 900 pts. I just means that your plan and your perspectives on winning this tactical game are non-existant. ” Probably only a minority of players have the ability to force all their plans becoming reality while simultaneously cancelling all their opponent's plans. Sorry for not belonging …

I have the impression that a lot of people here only consider damage output as relevant measure of a unit, but very forgetting the wound pool. Compare 5 Knights of Rhyma with the number of Lancers you get for the same price. Then consider getting hit by some anti-knight attacks (mad gits, gas globes, etc). Imagine each unit losing 4 wounds before able to contribute in a combat (okay Rhyma probably suffer a wound less because their 6++). But I could imagine that after such casualties, at some poi…

  • Ok, before we drift away, please come back to the topic about warcry principles.

I think they are especially useful to block out opponent units with rather few high-S attacks like LionGuard, DreadJudges etc...On the other hand they melt down too fast when fighting core spearman. So I think Grotlings can be very good, when you have Gargabtulas and Giants which you want to protect from those high-S units.

  • Quote from Shako: “B) Having 3 different Orc Warcrys and 3 different Goblin Warcrys, heck no thanks. ” Hm, could you explain this dislike a bit more, because that is exactly what I really would like to have.

  • Quote from Fleshbeast: “Don’t the Standard and Musician also push a character back a row if you want? ” I think that rule was removed in 1.3 or something.
