  • SE 2019 final update

Arrahed - - Sylvan Elves (SE)

    Post

in my lists wild hunter characters are generally left out for the same reasons I don't take wild hunter units: their bird mounted equivalents are just so much more flexible. They do have less punch, but they do get it where it's needed.

Quote from Hachiman Taro: “I feel like the drop to Forest Guardian Kindred is significant. I can see FG BSB with Hunters Honour being a somewhat of a thing again, esp combined with Essence change. Could be wrong. ” Maybe. I'm am certainly not the most experienced player here, but I always feel that I need too much investment to make blocks of FG do actual work. I would need an expensive but fragile character and keep a wizard in range who has at least two combat buffs available. If the alternati…

It's been a long time since I took any Chieftain at all, so I am not really affected by the point increases. The point reductions of Rangers are very convenient for me and effectively offset the increases of Sentinels. It think the only significant net change of 2.2 is the Essence of a Free Mind nerf, which is huge. Very much looking forward to playing SE in tournaments.

  • Quote from cptcosmic: “Quote from Arrahed: “The referenced article does not support your claim though. It states that external performance informed each army's point adjustments. ” it literally states exactly that right in the middle, army tier rating has been determined by taking all data with different weightenings and internal balance changes by unit usage from the "once or more often per army" dataset and then combined with data from survey and tournaments yeah, lets say it does not support …

  • Quote from cptcosmic: “Quote from Arrahed: “But that is clearly not what was done. You can disagree with the amount of adjustments, or with the 'only points' nature of adjustments. But making false claims will not make people listen to you. ” that is what the article is saying though and what has been told here aswell ” The referenced article does not support your claim though. It states that external performance informed each army's point adjustments. This is also in agreement with the observat…

  • Quote from piteglio: “this is a very interesting topic, and i think some data visualisation could be helpful. can i access the raw data? something like a spreadsheet with three columns: - name of unit or option - frequency of occurrence - point change after update is this data available to the general public, and if so where can i find it? ” this is almost what you are looking for, I think: Quote from Shako: “Hello there, I've done a couple of armies myself, collected the informations about the …

  • Quote from cptcosmic: “Quote from Shako: “To show how the concept works, I'm going to take an extreme. Like in economics, it's a model not the reality. Sticking with your examples: Army X is bottom tier. 90% are using unit A 10% are using the worse unit B. Now let's say unit B is only 75% as good as unit A. The price for A gets increasedby 5% The price for B gets cut by 50%. Now tell me this wouldn't have an influence on external balance aswell as internal balance. ” yes you have change external…

  • Quote from cptcosmic: “Quote from Teowulff: “I'm slightly baffled that everyone is already happily talking about raising prices again. Keep in mind that if you make all the best and popular stuff more expensive and the worst stuff slightly more affordable, the best army list that you can compose will actually get worse overall. ” data driven changes are useless if the actions taken are random. the changes are apparantly based on unit share only, a serious analyst would start to vomitting seeing …

  • Quote from Izomov: “But, if your opponent HAS to stop that gives you free rein over the remainder of your spells. Stone Skin and Healing Waters can completely flip combats on their own aswell. ” With Druidism you need to successfully cast three spells to get two (arguably very strong) effects. Dispelling one of them completely removes one of the effects and weakens the other. And even if you roll extremely well on oaken throne and/or the opponent fails to dispel it, he gets a second dispel chanc…

  • I agree that it works great if you can keep your army closely together and have high value wounds to raise. But generally it's better to kill the enemies damage dealer before they can cause wounds. And Druidism is not great at that. Removing steadfast is awesome but extremely difficult to pull off in practice. The opponent must stop only one of two spells which is generally not difficult.

  • Sure, but certain armies are designed with the knowledge that they don't have access to the lore. My question was more general curiosity whether Druidism is considered a strong lore in the context of the factions that have access to it. I always considered it to be one of the weaker ones.

  • Is Druidism considered particularly strong? I almost always pick Shamanism or Divination over Druidism. I only ever see Druidism picked by certain monster heavy BH lists, where it's arguably very strong. But that's a pretty specific niche.

  • I Think that's a good idea. Maybe some of the ETC players who took WH can comment on why they have made that choice instead of kestrels or rangers. Maybe I am just overlooking their value. In my experience the number of targets that cannot be handled by kestrels but can be handled by WH is negligible. On the other hand there are quite a few targets I would engage with kestrels or rangers, but not with WH.

  • Quote from Koller: “The problem with wildriders is they have a hard competitor called Kestrel Knights, they have resillience 4, Fly, decent dmg out 12 attack (S4 and 5) + stomps, 4 armour (with shields), better defensive skill and most important Vanguard. If you give Wildriders shields they cost more then a unit of kestrels. I dream of running 3 x 7 wildriders, but from a tournament apects is hard to justice them when I look at the kestrels If wildriders got cheaper shields upgrade and vanguard,…

  • Quote from Kdownunder: “Quote from Arrahed: “the Update saves me about 150 pts in the lists I usually play. I am looking forward to testing the changes. My only concern is that most magic items still are unappealing. ” Thats a lot what is your usual list? ” core filled with cavalry and a lot of rangers. Also I think I'm the only one playing skirmishing kestrels. I'll post an actual list later.

  • the Update saves me about 150 pts in the lists I usually play. I am looking forward to testing the changes. My only concern is that most magic items still are unappealing.

  • Quote from Wesser: “But both him and any Dragon comparisons is ofc totally irrelevant here ” I agree. That gets us nowhere. And if there are no balance concerns, why don't we have access to light armor for Druids already? It feels like restrictions for restrictions' sake.

  • Quote from Chack: “An example ? Right now i can only think about chars in ranger (wich i agree it's a shame that they work that way), and maybe druids, but mages are kinda supposed to be a burden i guess. ” Ranger chars are of course the prime culprits. I suppose elks slowing down cavalry is an acceptable compromise. Princes can use horses after all. But it annoys me nevertheless. Mounted druids slow down everything they join. Eagle mounted chieftains and princes have mismatching bases. This wou…

  • Looking back at the WTC I have to admit that match-ups weren't that terrible. There is usually enough variety in a five man team to find something workable. I had the impression that SE have rather a lot of extremely bad match-ups, but not too bad overall. In a singles tournament however, I would be concerned to be matched against a hard counter. Overall, there are other things that frustrate me about the current SE iteration: - No armor for Druids. If a highborn bookworm is able to put on a sui…

  • Here is the updated list to avoid confusion. I'll bring printouts for my opponents. (Hidden Content) Sorry for the mess. I was obviously not careful enough when submitting the list.
