  • I see the corsairs as sort of an alternate take of the high elf marine unit. whereas the HE version is a professional, multipurpose soldiers (ship space is limited after all), the corsairs are like boarders, specializing in individual cc. Which they're arguably the best at of any of the DE core infantry. I see them as more the professional DE sailors that occasionally get pulled off their ships to fight on land.

  • I like this alot, I would love to see heaps and heaps of sub armies and new armies. But, I have noticed that 9th age suffers from some internal contradictions - its hyper focused on balanced tournement play, but (anecdotally) most players seem to yearn towards fluffy, immersive, rules. but the more content is added the more difficult it becomes to balance. With the limited resources the 9th age team has at its hands, it's impossible. Also the scale of 9th age in terms of models on the table mean…

Off the top of my head I can think of a few holes in the army books that dont have any other manufacturers, or just not alot of options right now - High elf heavy cavalry (barded horses) dread elf corsairs (dark elf pirates with paired weapons and fancy capes) Dancers of yema/blades of nabh (dark elf unarmored berserker types) bolt throwers for both high and dread elves. Git launcher for OnG ghasts for VC (undead ogres or trolls or whatever) there are a few options for these around but no large …

Not really a suggestion but will these be miniatures for a new range, or will they be expansions on the old fantasy warriors line?

  • Kind of a weird thought but what about redesigning goblins as "the cheap crappy low dis unit that can take neat pseudo characters in the unit". Just like shady gits maybe you can take 1 or 2 subchieftans per x number of goblins who provide some kind of morale bonus (dis 7 or minimized roll?). maybe each special entry provides some kind of stacking bonus? The idea is goblins are numerous and deadly but only when competently lead - kill the leaders and they're not at all intimidating. I like the i…

The KoW fluff is pretty atrocious. both in amount and content, but it's a young system still and apparently improving it is one of the goals of the next edition. I'll believe it when I see it. @piteglio I'm not sure if the QS would have helped. most of our errors have to do with the sheer amount of stuff going on, we tend to intermittently forget things - fear checks, frenzy checks, battle focus, which items do what, how many ranks break steadfast. And then we remember them next turn. If we play…

If I'm being honest when I started out and when we first started we actually leapfrogged right over the starter. It seemed like it was a case of "learn this game so you can learn this other game". what we ended up doing was playing 2000 point games with no magic items and limited heros and stepped up the complexity game by game.

well this definitely got derailed. I'm going to try to address the whole discussion in a single long wall of text. For me the change was mostly because that's how the local group went, we wanted a change and 2.0 had just come out. personally I've been trying to push them towards something like warlords of erehwon, but that's more because I like really terrain dense maps (and I prefer terrain making to model painting), which 9th doesn't handle super well. Things i like about 9th age - the depth o…

I don't know about any rules developments but as for the base issue I have had some luck sabot trays/ blutacking the larger bases. For things like artillery bases locally we haven't really bothered to rebase stuff from KOW/other games, but were also pretty casual.

thanks for the responses. not competitive in the least, mostly we are trying to learn (everyone in our local scene is new to 9th and anything like it), and mostly we are interested in running scenarios and campaigns. so I am seeing that bolt throwers, queens guard and knights are all important choices. knights and bolt throwers seem straightforward enough. how do you use queens guard? shooting with a bite if charged?

Hello Everyone, After a bit of a hiatus from 9th age I am back to fumble with it again, this time with some elves. But I am finding myself really unsure of how to round out what I have into a functional list. IoB and ebay have put me up to 35ish swordmasters, 20 seaguard, a bolt thrower, 15 reavers, 2 eagles, a reaver chariot and a lion chariot, neither of which might be salvageable. I also have decent selection of characters on foot, and a prince on a griffon. I fluffed it up into a quick 4500 …
