  • @IntrigueAtCourt Could you please answer this? Quote from elendor_f: “In Krakow Masters the 2nd best HE list and 4th best individually featured a unit of 27 Citizen Spears with full command and Rending Banner. How can you explain that within your framework of "Citizen Spears are only ever good as a bunker unit of 20 dudes"? ” Is this player so good that he takes an "overpriced unit" outside of its "bunker role" (according to your reasoning) and manages to perform 2nd best HE (tied with 1st) and …

  • Quote from Eru: “B cannot charge C because it is in its flank. ” You mean B is in C's front right?

  • Quote from Borjnfer Wraith: “I am not clear as to what point he was trying to make other than to dismiss my point, and that was HBE archers presently do not fit the bill as a long range threat. ” Maybe that was your intended point, but what you wrote is that "they would be useless at any price because of their low damage output". As for his point, I made the effort to explain in detail what his point was (and it was not to dismiss yours, but to offer a reasoned refutation). I'll try again, in a …

  • @IntrigueAtCourt If you intend to use the unit purely as a bunker in the backline, I suggest Archers. Although Spears can keep safe whatever character you want better than Archers, because they can destroy many light units that are used as mage hunters before they strike. Quote from IntrigueAtCourt: “It all comes down to the same thing - whatever pricing formula is being used does not take into account the role of a unit when calculating the weight and contribution of certain stats into the fina…

  • Quote from Thunderforge: “Dwarf Holds Armybook question; Dwarf Lord and Thane base size is listed as 20x20mm. There doesn’t seem to be a change if you upgrade to shieldbearers or a war throne. I can only imagine five dwarfs standing on each other’s shoulders... ” The bases sizes for Character Mounts are in the Character Mounts section, page 11 of the Dwarven Holds armybook.

  • @Giladis This probably a minor detail, but why Essence of Mithril over Destiny's Call?

  • Quote from Borjnfer Wraith: “Quote from Adam: “Quote from Borjnfer Wraith: “Quote from Adam: “Quote from Borjnfer Wraith: “The very low damage output that I have experienced sooo many times with the HBE longbows lends me to believe they are pretty much useless at any price. ” At 1ppm they would be incredibly broken - ergo there is a price between their current price and 1ppm where they are good. ” Certainly at some cost they will be good as slow chaff. ” Stop trolling. It is just making your opi…

  • Quote from Loghaire: “Some people claim that a WM can be overrun in every direction, due it's roundbase - Is this true? ” You can check a detailed explanation in the document Rules Explained in Figures (see Downloads section), page 6: Maximizing Contact with Round Bases.

  • @My_Kin Indeed the 25-30 Sea Guard unit + Queen's Companion Spear Prince is almost always together with a Pyro Adept with BoAM or a Pyro Master, so if the enemy dispels Flaming Swords the HE player gets to cast Lash, a different Pyro spell, Favour or a combat buff in the later turns. Besides, Flaming Swords is useful both for shooting and for combat. To cover the weakness of AP0 ranged damage to armour, 2 or 3 SGRs appear together with the build. The Sea Guard also shoots in 3 ranks, meaning tha…

  • @Pellegrim I had already partially agreed with you in my post here: What official 9th Age products we can expect in the (near) future Perhaps we perceive the Background of T9A differently. I think there is room for unexplainable or mindless evil in the T9A setting. You can have a crazy Orc Warlord who is hellbent on razing and ravaging everything because he thinks it's fun. I don't see how the T9A background forbids this. What I disagree with you is that the only kind of evil or enemy in the ent…

  • Quote from clorens: “What does the LAB have to do with the background? they will have a special rule to plow the fields I don't follow the background anyway,I have mine and I don't need another , each player is free to give their army their own background, it is not mandatory to chain to a background to play in fact I think that here ninth should do as in the subject of miniatures, let everyone use the one you like yes, if in the end I end up getting into the art department, maybe the illustrati…

  • I think I should follow the advice of @Shlagrabak because you're going to get me started on the portrayal of villains and evil factions in LoTR and ASOIAF and I will write a wall of text that is outside the purpose of the thread. Summary: - LOTR: does not feature *only* unexplainable evil. (Hidden Content) Melkor/Morgoth turns evil due to reasons explained in the Silmarillion. There are some unexplained evil characters/entities like Balrogs, who are evil because they are evil, as far as I rememb…

  • Quote from arwaker: “Like with all units and items: If you want it be cheaper, don't use it. If you think it could still be more expensive, use it. The crowd decides indirectly. That simple. ” I think there is an important detail you did not mention. Popularity alone does not say anything, it is going together with performance. If a lot of players (for some reason) pick a unit a lot but they perform poorly, the unit will either not go up in price or its (small?) price increase will be compensate…

  • Quote from Pellegrim: “Quote from elendor_f: “I recommend the "vampires have motivations/feelings is lame!" crowd to take a look again at the WFB 6th edition Vampire Counts book where the opening story for the Blood Dragon clan is about an old Bretonnian knight turned Vampire who duels and kills another knight who has come to kill him, and how he feels about the half faded memories of his past. ” That's a brilliant story. What matter most tho, is that now that he's a vampire, he is evil/ does ev…

  • I recommend the "vampires have motivations/feelings is lame!" crowd to take a look again at the WFB 6th edition Vampire Counts book where the opening story for the Blood Dragon clan is about an old Bretonnian knight turned Vampire who duels and kills another knight who has come to kill him, and how he feels about the half faded memories of his past. Also, "characters having motivations" is different than the setting endorsing those motivations. Giving socio-economic reasons for Dread Elves to ha…

  • Quote from Hombre de Mundo: “Do all models in a unit need Vanguard for the unit to be allowed to make a Vanguard move? ” Short answer: Yes (models with Vanguard can perform a Vanguard move. If a unit with Vanguard contains one model without Vanguard, the unit cannot leave it behind, so it could not perform any Vanguard). Long asnwer: Check page 35 of the Rules Explained in Figures document.
