  • I'm not sure whether the background would accommodate it, but I like the idea.

  • @jeavent I'm intrigued by your approach to BD & WH, and the single character combining both kindreds. Are you envisioning them as basically mounted and infantry versions of the same unit?

  • Quote from Happy Aspid: “Quote from Ozzy666: “He used it as an example to make a point about Counter Strike, I don't think that's derailing the topic Best Wishes Ozzy ” Counterstrike works from aegis. There are no ways for majority of R&F units to gain divine attacks. But there such things as Rending Banner that bypass a lot of what spiked shield does. Dont forget that spiked shield works only on infantry. Any spearelfs wtih rending banner will easily bypass 2-3 points of armor negating sp s…

  • Quote from da_griech: “Quote from CariadocThorne: “Quote from da_griech: “This game is about options and synnergies... where the manslayer is imho too much pre-designed, for a probably higher cost as - just an example - a rat. Would you for example buy him a destiny's call? Probably not. ” More to the point, if the Tyrant is as good as you say, he's going to get nerfed/changed when the VS book gets redone, and then there will no longer be any question of him being better than the Manslayer. ” I …

  • Quote from ArchangelusM: “@ALL Let me clarify: Proactive unit/ability is one that gives you options in your game turn, on your charge or CC phase, etc. Reactive unit/ability is one that gives you options in oponents turn. At least I would define it in such a way. ” Those seem like very strange definitions to me. Reactive means you use it to react to your opponents moves. Watching which units your opponent moves where then targeting the units offering the biggest threat with your shooting is reac…

Would you for example buy him a destiny's call? Probably not. ” So you wouldn't buy him Destiny's call, ok, neither would I. He doesn't need it, he can get some decent armour like mithril, not need a shield and then have more points to spend on a juicy weapon enchantment for GW or PW, and maybe some other enchantments like…

  • Quote from Squee: “(i.e. same sort of low-value application as prebuffing or predebuffing) ” Except it can't be dispelled, which is a big advantage.

  • I would also call them a proactive unit, not a reactive one. Applying a debuff to knights so that they may think twice about charging the spears you just shoved forward into their face, for example is pretty darn proactive. So is applying a debuff to a warmachine to increase the chances that your dragonlord survives after you moved it into the open ready to flank charge a vital enemy unit next turn. If anything, I would suggest that the HE army as a whole CAN be pretty reactive (it depends on th…

  • Quote from KiRaHyuU: “Quote from da_griech: “A rat tyrant on war litter with heavy armour and death cheater kills way more men with PW and Heroes Heart, has much better defense, is much cheaper and makes a much better General due to 18“ LD bubble ” And so would a Chosen Lord on Dragon OR an Avatar of Nature, your point? ” I believe he was suggesting that a rat character (at least one who isn't big and demonic) should be not be able to out-damage the Manslayer. I don't know how RT/BGT/whoever ran…

  • I think they are fine, but if people don't like the kind of unreliable debuff, perhaps they could do something else. It occurs to me that firing smoking bombs stuck on the front of arrows into an enemy unit in cover would tend to flush them out of that cover, perhaps a unit which takes hits could lose any cover they have from the terrain they are in (not from terrain or units in between them and the shooters though). Giving an enemy -1 to hit for a single unit can be good, but effectively giving…

  • Quote from Peacemaker: “Quote from CariadocThorne: “SE are shooty Elves, but they are not, and never have been ” Point of Order:a couple times they were for brief periods(2 weeks) and then were quickly nerfed due to 30+ ambushing fast cav with longbows in core and other such travesties. ” Yes, but that was because of the combination of mobility and firepower. Keeping shooty avoidance balanced without overnerfing either mobile combat elements or shooting is possibly the hardest part of designing …

  • Edit: I didn't come here to argue, I came to raise a concern. That's done, I've clarified it for anyone who wasn't sure what I meant the first time, and I'm not going to get drawn into pointless arguements which just derail the topic.

  • Quote from Radian: “when you don't have armor (typically) you don't want fight, but shoot enemy down. And i can't see difference vs heavy armor on DE vs light armor and cloak on SE. Plate armor could do, but both have same sv. SE are shooty elves, not melee ones. And IMO you should go with those problems to SE LAB parts of forum, and focus here on DE ” SE are not just "shooty elves", HE are at least as shooty. SE and DE have always overlapped heavily in terms of high mobility msu combat styles. …

  • Quote from Radian: “I don't care about SE. it is DE thread, not SE. HE are defensive ones DE are combat ones Se should be in between. Our best fighter should be better than theirs, and if we'll have a book first (probably), the SE LAB should adjust their characters to not become better in cc than DE's I feel the DE are in worst spot of all 3 elven factions, and probably lowest tier (SA might be as bad army as we), and still LAB's are worried to not make us too powerful bc of stupid long forgotte…

  • Quote from kompatybilijny: “So we are finally making the whole circle back to the 8th edition. ” Surely this would be fixing a problem introduced in 8th (ie making a lot of hero-level characters largely irrelevant as just bad versions of the lord equivalent, by removing the 1 lord, multiple heroes restriction). @Aenarion43 I'm taking a similar, but slightly different direction in the homebrew SE LAB I've started working on. separate characters with their own profiles and rules for Bladedancer, W…

  • Quote from noir: “@CariadocThorne its true the manslayer is intended to be the best fighter from the 3 elven fractions- i don't see where the harm for SE would be? does every elven character now need 5 attacks at off 8?? obviously not. Surely you can expect to not have the stag lord in its current form when SE LAB hits but I wouldn't think that this is necessary. Nor is it necessary to have 5 Attacks, all Lords work on 4 attacks as well don't they?? ” Quote from noir: “@CariadocThorne is the pro…

  • Quote from ferda: “Quote from CariadocThorne: “Quote from Marchosias: “What I do not like about this manslayer is his def 5, purely from immersion perspective. It's the level of an Empire prelate. It creates the impression that the manslayer doesn't really care about defense, which is the best way to get killed very soon. He can't expect to kill all enemies before they can swing. I understand this is actually meant to represent not his fighting skill but the fact that enemies really hate him. Ca…

  • Quote from GSbasic: “with this line of logic DE should have on par shooting and with SE. Your statements are also oxymorons, you don’t want DE to have things because that may mean SE may not have them as well? Is this not a circular thought? I appreciate you looking out for the SE LAB that is not in process but it doesn’t help the DE LAB that is in process to have someone trying to invalidate ideas on a lot of speculation, especially with stakeholders from many different groups who already have …

  • Quote from Giladis: “Quote from CariadocThorne: “Really, the guidelines for all three should have been worked out at the same time, so that we could see that nothing like that would happen. ” They have been. All three were done at the same time to avoid encroachment on each other's design space. ” Ok, so long as SE characters have their own strengths and don't just get shunted into shooting as the only thing which isn't a) already claimed by DE, or b) off limits due to being out of character for…
