The latest issue of the 9th Scroll is here! You can read all about it in the news.

  • Quote from CariadocThorne: “Quote from Giladis: “The latest Scroll has a preview of the thought direction of for two DE characters. the-ninth-age.com/community/fi…-issue-20-march-1st-2020/ Maybe you can draw some inspiration from it for SE ” I like them both, but I was just wondering whether there is a change of direction here. The Manslayer looks like a powerful individual fighter, so I was wondering whether this means a relaxation of the previous separation of character roles between the elven…

  • I really digged the new cover style, another great issue guys! @Henrypmiller Would you mind sharing the name of the dragon model that you used in the painting flames tutorial and where you got it from? I'd love to pick one up for my samurai army (counts as HE). Cheers!

  • Quote from Giladis: “The latest Scroll has a preview of the thought direction of for two DE characters. the-ninth-age.com/community/fi…-issue-20-march-1st-2020/ Maybe you can draw some inspiration from it for SE ” Personally I have long desired for a Wizard's chosen Path of Magic to affect the model's profile or add some kind of ability, so that alone makes me love the concept, cool stuff!

  • I also personally lean more towards focussing on the "fey" theme for nature spirits over the 4 elements style. I feel the mythology of the 4 elements fits Greco Roman themed factions a bit better than the traditionally more Gaelic/Celtic SE. That being said the idea certainly does have merit and there are ways the two themes could be married together. Having unit entries/upgrades that represent the following could fit both flavours; Earth - Gnomes, Spriggans Water - Undines, Nymphs, Selkies Air …

  • Quote from CariadocThorne: “Warning! Rambling thoughts ahead! One of the things in particular I was looking at with my design was that so far all the Forest Spirits are tree-themed, which is fine and fitting and all seeing as trees are kind of the defining feature of a forest . However, they are Forest Spirits, not Tree spirits, while the AoN is an Avatar of Nature, and both forests and nature contain more than just trees. Nature themes could include the classic 4 natural elements, Earth, Air, F…

  • Hi all; I just saw the posting for this competition, here is a unit entry from the Sylvan Elves home brew in my signature: Sylvan Elves the-ninth-age.com/community/ga…0eda9bfe51f35b1b0fb62f264 72089_storm_raptor.jpg Storm Raptor - Privateer Press 77946_Roc.jpg Grimtalon Deluxe Boxed Set - Reaper Miniatures The intent is to replace the dragon with a more nature themed monster as the centerpiece mount for the army, leaving dragons to other races such as HE. The homebrew adds a Dragonfey mount (and…

  • Updated the Homebrew to 2.2.5 The biggest change in this update was the addition of Supernal to many of the Sylvan Spirits. While working on this homebrew's first supplement it became clear that it would need to be able to draw on Supernal-like units from the base book as well as it's own faction specific units. It was an addition I was hesitant to experiment with in the past because it has many complex and difficult to balance interactions with the rest of the army. The reasoning behind not giv…

  • Quote from Henrypmiller: “How would people feel about reducing the range of the sylvan bow? It could be 24" range, but short range is 15" or something similar. I quite like how it works now but im just curious. ” For a change like that to work the army would need to acquire some new sources of long range shooting I believe. I find SE already have a hard time against armies with easy access to 30" shooting. As mentioned by others such a change would have a strong knockoff effect for elven combat …

  • A lot of players in my area have SE armies but traditionally only a few of us bring them out to events. I am told by many of these players its because they are unsure of how to properly use the army against a variety of opponents in a competitive setting. Those of us that do bring SE tend to do quite well though, but I think this partially because of a favourable meta. There's been a big slowdown of events since the last update due to the holidays so it's difficult to see where things are at in …

Here are some tactics I find very useful for SE when up against armies that out-shoot them on paper. If I get to choose deployment I try and give my opponent the side with some impassable terrain to gum up their lines. Crowding their units closer together makes it easier for me to take advantage of LoS shenigans. Depending on the layout this can even allow me to isolate and take down a portion of my opponents army before they can respond. Deploying out of range of my opponents shooting units if …

Quote from raulmartinv: “Quote from Chip: “- I feel SE shooting is underwhelming. A character with lifeseed feathers is not even close to be as cost/efficient as 2-3 bolt throwers (my opinions), and with bough of Wyscan is only good if he is a pathfinder, which makes him a lot easier to catch, and to really cost efficient either. Hail shots has not given me good results since they set its aim to 2+ and cannot be taken by wizards. I prefer Elu's Heartwood of the HE (you can ride a horse with it!)…

Good stuff! For the most part the drops and hikes were well targeted with the exception being the Cheiftain's weapons. I get the idea behind the increase but I think in the end 90% of the time you see a Chieftain on the board it will be with Hunters Honour because of the price hike. The model just doesn't have the stats to fully utilize Spirit of the Whirlwind or Titanic Might and paying 20 pts for Sylvan Blades on top of the 60 pts for Heroes Heart is a hard nerf on the second most common optio…

  • With 5 pt drop on Titanic Might as well as the drop on the Horn of the Wild Hunt we can run this guy: Forest Prince: Wild Hunter Kindred, Great Elk, Sylvan Longbow, Light Armour (Destiny's Call), Sylvan Blades (Titanic Might), Dragonfire Gem, Horn of the Wild Hunt - 640 pts Bunkered in a unit of 10 Heath Riders /w Full Command & Predator Pennant is quite nasty, especially when paired with 2X4 Kestrel Knights /w Shields & Champions for some excellent board control and multi-charge plays. I'll be …

  • I am personally adverse to layering additional special rules onto the Kestrels and Briar Maidens. They both already have quite a few basic ones from the main book on top of our army rules and risk becoming bloated and overcosted if more are added. For skimirsh Kestrels I like the idea of having a sweep attack, but instead of a special unique debuff how about a simple damaging sweep attack; 2 hits per model @ Str 4 AP 2, then have the option count towards Unseen Arrows. (Its something I have been…

  • Yeah I am digging the following build: Blade Dancer Chieftain: Battle Standard Bearer, Spear (Hunters Honour), 2X Aether Icons - 335 13 Blade Dancers: Champion, Standard Bearer (Banner of Silent Mist) - 486 MR 3 & -2 to-hit vs most shooting. The Banner of Silent Mist is optional if you just plan on camping a Forest with the unit. Another good choice could be Banner of Swiftness on the unit for some silly charges and flanking maneuvers.

  • Noticed an error while building some lists SE: Heath Hunters Ambush option is coming up as 4pts/model. Actual price is 2pts/model Briar Maidens Champion got an error correction today and was changed to 100pts Thanks for all of the amazing work, Cheers!!

  • Here's some more of my thoughts regarding Wild Huntsmen & Briar Maidens: Wild Huntsmen - Thematically they are my favourite unit, I find the real world myth of the Wild Hunt incredibly engaging. I used to always take them in my lists because of this theme regardless of their efficiency but after the 1.3 update cycle I found them to be quite the liability most of the time and noticed an immediate improvement in my performance at events after I had dropped the unit. I find they are a very "RPSy" u…

  • 1. Araves Infantry (male arabians) 2. Charemises (female arabians) 3. Valkyries I was a Shield Maiden & Forest Goblin kickstarter backer. I would love to see the same love and attention given to a fantasy Arabian army! There aren't a lot of options on the market for such models and a unified product line could look amazing. Cheers!

  • Hello! This update came out faster than I had anticipated, woot! Here's my hot take without playing any games yet: Bough of Wyscan: I believe a deeper discount was needed to give this item a chance to see some play. Although the change does allow a Pathfinder Chieftain to take this + a newly discounted Horn of the Wild Hunt for an okay support character I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Lifeseed Feathers: This item will remain unselected Mist Walkers Mirror: This item is still too expensive to take on a charact…

  • Here's my own personal wishlist: - Remove Electoral Calvary as a unit and make Knightly Orders a special unit . A Knight Commander then allows you to take a unit of Knightly Orders as Core. - Remove the Light Lance Reiter option and make it it's own unit in Core (maybe call them Hussars or Imperial Calvary?). Give this new unit Support Unit and some weapon options such as Hand Weapons, Shields, Lances, Handguns, & Bows. - Give KotSG a Calvary pick option or let them use a Halberd + Shield in Clo…
