  • They are looking great! Which models are they? Do they rank well?

  • Quote from da_griech: “Thanks guys, I enjoyed painting them. Actually the color scheme is inspired by the art of GW 6th edition DE spear box ” Jup, perfect inspiration. So far the other successful attempt was done by Dearon, but yours look even better on the new legionnaire models. If I will ever start a new Dread Elf army other than my current Spartan/Roman red/silver/bronze painting scheme I will use that cold blue look of those 6th DE spears. Could you share your painting scheme?

  • Wow, those spears are insanely cool and well done! So dark, disciplined and realistic, absolutely amazing work. I think they are the best DE spears I have ever seen.

  • NMM is looking great, and love your conversion!

  • Big news for the hobby aspect, I finally destroyed part of my basement (coal storage) to create space for a playing table. This was done today, and the next week will be spend to clean the basement and prepare it for future playing. I have two relaxing chairs, ability to play some GoT/LOTR music, and fridge to have some ice-cold Belgian/special beers, and a space solely to fulfil my mancave needs. The first objectives is a table, I am thinking about 75 x 150 tabletop at IKEA for €20, and four le…

  • Here is my idea for the karkadons RQ3aOoS.jpg

  • Thanks all! Working on the quickstarter force of Makhar as a small side project, here is the first model for my Karkadian herd. As the Makhar are Mongols, and I recently watched the epic series Marco Polo, I was inspired by the flaming horses to wreak terror upon the enemy forces. I bought a glue pistol to create the flame effects, was quite difficult to achieve the effect but I think it does it's job. Fire could be optimized and not sure yet about the colour scheme on the horse. RQ3aOoS.jpg

Quote from jirga: “Looks good. You can get cheap mammoth figures from ebay and looking at your modelling and painting skills it won't be an issue for you to modify them to fit the tabletop. Horses on fire is a good idea for karkadan herd. Especially as same scene was the source of inspiration for the herd. ” I have been looking into how to make these flames on the horses, and found some online tutorials all using a glue gun. I just ordered mine and expect it this week! Hope you show you a Karkad…

Thank you Il Maestro! Here is an update on the army I will bring tomorrow to my first 2020 tournament. Most is still WIP though. DSC-0530.jpg The characters, left oracle flesh is done by somebody else DSC-0531.jpg Not so clear in the picture, but there is a nice NMM light effect on the executioner swords DSC-0532.jpg Acolytes also need to be updated, several year old paintjob DSC-0533.jpg Empire guy being sliced by the scythes DSC-0534.jpg The Spartans are starting to look well DSC-0535.jpg

  • 13 hours non-stop painting, I am done haha. I did not finish the executioners, but did their swords where the NMM worked quite well. I finally found the effective way to use NMM on swords/spears now. Here is the first 'painted' army of 2020. DSC-0530.jpg The characters, left oracle flesh is done by somebody else DSC-0531.jpg Not so clear in the picture, but there is a nice NMM light effect on the executioner swords DSC-0532.jpg Acolytes also need to be updated, several year old paintjob DSC-0533…

  • Still very WIP, but here are the additions to my chariot bases DSC-0527.jpg The shields for now at the back of the auxiliaries DSC-0528.jpg

  • OK, the Spartans are finished for now (NMM spear points + bases highlighted). They are still WIP with the details, but already look complete on the field now. DSC-0526.jpg It is not realistic to also get the NMM on the auxiliaries still done, so will only do the shields on them. Will put 10 first layer grey on 10 executioners, and try to finish 5 others so they can get in front rank. Then chariot casualties en charioteers.

  • @Little Joe my brush has arrived and I am loving it! Painting is going to much faster, especially the NMM spear shafts due to better feathering technique possible because of the brush. Still a lot to do today/tonight! - 15 executioners - 5 legionnaires, 25 NMM spear points, 15 NMM spear points, 35 golden details - 9 empire base casualties - Highlighting bases 40 legionnaires, 30 auxiliaries, 20 executioners - NMM armour 30 auxiliaries - 15 auxiliary shields - Banner auxiliaries - Special BSB 202…

  • Quote from Boomvalk: “Lol I have a huge horde of mini's but I try not to buy 7 bolt throwers if you can only field 3 at a time xD ” Haha I am still looking forward to that 8000p battle to finally field 6 of them, with my 40 shades. Thanks all, I will make a detailed army shot with all that is painted after the weekend. I am getting a bit nervous though, the brush did still not arrive (expected in monday) and my miniatures are not ready. I do have tomorrow and saturday off, but it are going to be…

  • I am a bit delayed due to waiting on my new detail brush, so only able to highlight bases and put primary colours. I realized it would also be a nice opportunity to collect the whole Dread Elf host, as ideally this all gets painted this year (I guess 1/3 has been painted) DSC-0509.jpg DSC-0510.jpg DSC-0511.jpg

  • WIP picture of my XIII Legion, needs to be finished at the end of the week! Special thanks for @Boomvalk to the feedback about the bases, the movement trays of Spartans + Auxiliaries have been redone and now primed. Reapers, chariots, acolytes, characters, and executioners have been given 2-3 more layers of lightness to make the bases/army more appealing. DSC-0504.jpg

  • Next week will be a pretty busy week, as I have my first tournament of 2020 coming up and want to finish my 4200 army, so already to my highest standards. I was planning to do it step by step, but this led to working on the Spartans for over 6 months, and it is time to finish them. I am quite far with the painting, but most units are still WIP and need the final highlights, NMM armour, or the NMM weapons. After a tip from @Boomvalk, I am (re)painting my bases to 2-3 more highlights. They used to…
