And for something different again: I've been painting Heath Riders! I converted some Glade Rider models with Sylvan Lances, using standard poles and the lances from the Wild Rider box. the-ninth-age.com/community/ga…e00bfd97efa7f64a264c69a80 the-ninth-age.com/community/ga…e00bfd97efa7f64a264c69a80 These are nearing completion, I'll probably add another highlight at some parts and do the bases but you can see where I'm going with them. Basing will have to wait (no more static grass!!), so next up…

  • I wonder how many spectators a UB room can hold. Last time I checked Jerzy's battle there were 50 people watching. On a side note: over at the Beast Herd subforum we gave the 'ol Jabberwock a try even though conventional wisdom said it's useless. I was pleasantly surprised by it. Perhaps you guys could make April the "bring your Frost Phoenix to the table" month? I refuse to accept that a flying model with D6 Stomps and 5++ aegis that costs 300-ish points is useless. If a Jabberwock can find a w…

  • I answered @Falco 's questions in a rather long post in the list-building section, so that we can keep this thread for general SE discussion: The spellweaver's grove: army list makover!

  • Long time SE general, I tend to wander off to other armies but I keep coming back to the forest every time. You can read about my SE tests in the list-building part of the forum, but I felt I needed to post here to bring some optimism back to this thread. I have been playing pure Sylvan Elves with no tree spirits for the best part of these last two years, at competitive tournaments (both singles and team events). For people that require credentials, I have attended the past four ETCs with three …

Well the forum has been slower than usual; proof that people post mostly while slacking off in front of a PC at work? I've been giving the Longhorns some thought, so I thought I'd ask you: What is your preferred Longhorn unit size? So far i've tested three configurations that I liked: a) Small ambushing units of 10 with Halberds. These need no introduction, they are a steal for their points and their main advantage is their Discipline 8 that provides a more than decent chance of passing their Pa…

I managed to get 4 games in this month with my Jabberwock list: (Hidden Content) All of the games ended in (small) victories for the Beasts (against Vermin Swarm, EoS, KoE, SA), and I never had the impression that the Jabbers were "dead weight". I used them as flankers, and at times as flank guards. When pushing with a BH army you're worried of enemies going around the flanks and threatening the backside of the army. Jabbers help against that. I often used them closer to my lines but angled to p…

Greetings, I have a question regarding images uploaded to the site: Is there a way to surpass 1000? I'm asking because I'm nearing that limit (912 and counting), and roughly 800 of them are the photos/diagrams of my battle reports. I would hate to have to delete older battle reports, these seem to still be getting views. I've still got a battle report to upload (roughly 15 pictures), and after that it means that whenever I get the chance to go to a tournament next I will not be able to do my usu…

The base is not done yet, I'll post pictures once it's finished!

I've been keeping busy! The art of striking last With almost everyone stuck at home because of the viral outbreak, I figured that abit of debate in this subforum would help lift spirits and pass the time. If you're reading this in the metro/bus or with a bunch of people around you and you're not a healthcare professional, you’re doing something wrong. Now that we’re through with this message, lets focus on something else. After playing with two different types of elves for a long time, I started playing Beast Herds. On…

  • I've played in tournaments in at least six different countries, in three different versions of the legacy game and then T9A. The proportion of bad sports in the GW game was way higher than what we encounter now in T9A. And by that, I mean that in my current game scene we have ZERO players that "Take the game too seriously and ruin the fun". That's out of roughly 60-80 people that frequent tournaments in Belgium. (Mind you, around 30 of these are what you'd call hardcore T9A fans, the others bein…

Quote from youngseward: “I’d give my right nut to get Witchcraft for this army. ” It's funny, I've found myself thinking along the same lines (no nuts in the balance, mind you) for Sylvan Elves. It seems to me that the armies that would benefit most from Witchcraft are the ones who don't get access to it. Could this be.... balance?

Imagine if Mongrels didn't have access to the Wild Herd banner... then suddenly Wildhorns with 2 attacks, OS5 and a one-time S4 Ap1 would seem like a good deal, especially when backed by Shamanism or Evocation. I like @Scumboogie 's suggestion about Drunk Wildhorns, but in the right hands they would probably be too good. For now: Try out Shield Wildhorns with character support (BSB/General/ Soothsayer with Ancestral Carvings), they work surprisingly well. For the Paired Weapon variety, I'd still…

Quote from Tyranno: “And the seekers... they need a look at. The "always wound on 4+" is horrifying as special rules go. And the fact that they are special with no limitation beyond a 0-3 means that people can just tidal wave them. I remember seeing the stats from the last ETC, over 340 Seekers used total. And they got buffed after that. Despite having the 3rd best record at the event AND winning other tournaments. Look at Luxemburg the other week; 1st and 3rd place to DH. How was this army desc…

  • Don’t forget the slit for spell cards. This way your opponent can clearly see what spells are effecting the unit. Very good design, actually. The guys from Russia had something similar so perhaps there’s a way to get them on the market?

Maybe I need to write a tactica on how to deal with unbreakable adv3 infantry blocks with vanguard. But I need to see the seeker list ” I have a battle report coming up where I face 2 x 25 seekers plus Greybeard deathstar. • Well done Shannon, very impressive results! Now let me go back and find all of the posts of our fellow sylvan elf players in this forum claiming that "only Tree lists can work" or that "Bladedancers are crap" and so on. Quote from Snarkhunter: “If you're thinking of trying something similar, the advice I would give is to stick with it. It took me at least 15 games before I started feeling comfortable with the list. I'm at about 30 games now, and still discovering new tricks to implement. So ther…
