  • Quote from WastelandWarrior: “We already got a joke giant it was already the worst giant in the game, now there are 15 better giants! ” Yeah. Poor WDG. 30 points less than a BH giant with the same stats. The only reason your giant is a joke is because everything else in your book is even better. If WDG players start to complain while tournaments see a crazy increase of WDG players, especially at the highly competitive level, that is a bad joke.

  • WDG like BH and some others already have a giant. So, they did not get another one. As far as I can tell, only those armies got new giants that do not have one already.

  • Amazing idea! Thanks for this to the T9A team! (I mean there is "A team" in the name... what do you expect?!) PS: I agree that the Dwarf Giant is too good for his price. And I think, that the Empire Volley Gun should be priced under the Artillery category. Otherwise you can field an additional volley gun.

It's not necessarily about where you put him, but if I choose Longhorns, I usually do not take Minotaurs, too. So, the Minolord is not my first choice. I could put my Beastlord on a chariot, which I usually do, but I like that a lot more when combined to a unit with my Soothsayer with Shamanism (and my BSB). But some character has to be in the longhorns to trigger bodyguard. And, as mentioned, they work better with druidism. And I prefer Mongrels over Wildhorns when I already have one infantry u…

I have never tested a unit of 18. The units of 10 with Halberds are amazing for their pricepoint costs. Some time ago, I also liked to play with a big block of 30, sometimes with Halberds, sometimes with Great Weapons. I loved them, but they are very expensive. With regard to hitting power 2 Gortachs or one or two units of Minotaurs is just much better. But I liked having so many wounds. Not many opponents can decimate them enough with shooting and magic - and at least almost all opponent trying…

Amazing article. Thanks a lot! Of course, as a BH player I know many of these strategies and use them regularly, but there were actually some things that I do not that intentionally, like blocking reforms. This is a great post and it really helps to understand how to play with low AGI. Quote from youngseward: “This is one of the reasons that every time I take longhorns or minotaurs, I pick great weapons. I dont ever write a list assuming Ill be going first in many games. ” Is this really a conse…

That is always a good idea. But if you are too bored, I can happily send you some unpainted miniatures.

Haha. That is my usual reaction to such offers from Mierce. Luckily, they have them all the time, so by now I am able to restrict myself a bit more thinking that I don't have to wait too long for them to make the next promotional offer.

For those of you looking for models for Jabberwocks: Mierce Miniatures offers at the moment many of their monsters for 50%. There are some that are quite good matches for the Jabbers, e.g.: mierce-miniatures.com/index.ph…o_dkl_bry_pow_mbs_815_000 mierce-miniatures.com/index.ph…o_dkl_bry_gwy_mbs_531_000 mierce-miniatures.com/index.ph…m_hmo_blg_bnb_mon_001_000 mierce-miniatures.com/index.ph…o_dkl_bry_gwy_mbs_701_000

If combined units are what we consider something that grasps the horde character of the beasts, then I would strongly vote for combinations of Minotaurs and Mongrels and Wildhorns and dogs or monsters. This leaves the bases untouched. I actually like the following idea: You can take some units (like dogs and WH) and combine them. But they still count as two units on your army list. In your movement phase you can separate them from each other --> the dogs are moving faster out of the wildhorn uni…

  • So, they might shift because the books are completed and not because they are strong? Because I know some very good players who changed their armies to WDG because of their strength.

  • Wow. 9 out of the first 20 are DL and WDG? Seems like the LABs might be to strong in comparison to the other books. Is such a result backed by other tournaments or just an extreme exception?

Good idea. At least the spears of GW's ungors can easily be take as hand weapons, I think. They are not very large spears. I personally like to mix models with spears and hand weapons to get a horde style.

I cannot see feral hounds in such a fucntion and actually I don't see why this is something we should want. It does not seem to fit the background very well that BH are actually just hordes of hounds. All these attempts to exploit units that are clearly not meant for building huge blocks (like with eagles or sabertooth tigers) are funny, but not really something I would like to foster. Besides that, I like your initiative a lot. This list is very different and I can imagine it working very well.…

@Sghenziu: Love your ideas! I agree that chariots are a bad legacy and do not fit to background of beasts in a forest at all. But T9A tries to make all old models usable, so there will probably not be a total removal of chariots from our army book. I like the idea of a special army composition for steppe beasts that is very chariot heavy. My alternative idea mentioned above was to use chariots more as a kind of buff wagongs which transport holy statues because the beasts are known for their wors…

I would very much prefer if "drunk" was changed to something less GW-like. This is such a adolescent humor. The effect is finde, but I hope that the LAB will get rid of this rule.

These details must not be solved here, I guess. It is worth thinking and brainstorming some transformations from background to gameplay concepts. We will not make it perfect in every detail, but this cannot be the idea of discussing it here. I would also like a hereditary spell that uses the character of the bestial nature and infects enemy units with it. For example, the awakened beastial instincts within the enemy units could lower their military discipline (--> unit cannot use rally around th…

Quote from DanT: “ Some ideas of ways to start implementing my vague vision ideas globally across the book would be things like: - Remove the flank/rear charge bonus. All BH units add D3 to their charge range. Possibly adjust some advance ranges. - Generally lower discipline (5-8), but units add D3 to their discipline when taking panic checks. - Possibly greater prevalence of drunk (and rename)? - Some unique rules for ranked standard infantry units, perhaps somehow getting greater mobility but …

Ah, btw: teleporting seems to be an element of WDG already, and I can imagine some elves or saurians who like this idea as well. I do not see any necessity to include it into the BH background. But Iike the idea of greater rituals to change the weather or the landscape. This could be used as an interesting gameplay element as well.
