Amazing stuff! So many nice conversions, and the colour scheme ties everything together. I really like the blood spatters on the banners, plus the sickly green glow that makes the forest seem warped by chaos. Well done, sir! Do you have anything on your painting table right now?

Quote from BigBird990: “Is "sliding" still a compulsory thing to engage more bases or does that require an explicit reform? Be sad if the gortach gets slid down into contact with a load of WDG chosen after they butcher all the dogs! ” Actually sliding is not allowed at all: when charging, you have to try and maximize the amount of total models in combat, while respecting all movement/charging limitations (including the one-wheel clause). After that, any unit that is NOT engaged on multiple front…

  • Very interesting topic, thanks for bringing this up! Since most of us are in an introspective journey, I'll add my 2p. First off, losing every single game you play is a challenge, and even the most optimistic fellow can be deterred by it. That said, I know a few people in my local community who attend tournaments and lose consistently all of their games. And they still keep coming, and they still have a good time doing so. But I admit that I probably couldn't. Here's what I've observed about mys…

My bladedancer Prince with Titanic Might and Glyph of Amryl begs to differ. I've seen a lot of Pathfinder princes lately, in shooting-heavy lists. Two of them = roughly the same effectiveness as a full unit of Pathfinders. Not my cup of tea, but a lot of people swear by them. I agree that the Forest Guardian is a bit lackluster, but I bet you could make him work in a Forest Ranger unit with the spear and potentially the Glyph of Amryl to protect him against challenging monster-characters. Having…

@Zikum @Iluvatar I'm re-iterating the question. I've got a tournament report coming up, and odds are I won't have enough image left in my limit to be able to post it. Is there any workaround? (the only person with more images hosted on this site than myself is Blondebeer, and he's over 1000 so I'd imagine there's a way?)

Apologies for the lack of activity, recently I've been doing some (UB) gaming instead of painting on my spare time. I ran out of primer spray, which has put a damper on my painting activity. But I did manage to paint some...unit fillers! First off, a Herd Stone for my Beast Herds: this will probably act as a terrain piece for my display board, whenever I get around to making it. Or it could fill in for 16 Wildhorns/Longhorns (the only base that can fit it would be a 100x100 base). the-ninth-age.…

  • Quote from AxelVicious: “Hello. You're write up of my list is like the discussions i've had with myself and the team for the last week. I know Druidism is better but i really hate that Magic Lore, it bores me to tears so i thought i'd try without it. I may regret it. I initially wanted to go for 4 units of Minos but my team talked me down to taking one big block at least. So if the little units of 3 are terrible then it's my own fault. I also wanted to take Great Weapons on them, a shameless the…

  • Greetings! The wonders of the internet are such that even in the madness that is the current crisis, the good folks from Team USA were able to organize an online T9A team tournament! The tournament is -appropriately- called "Social Distancing 2020" and it involves no less than 34 teams (4 players each) for a total of 136 players from all over the world! The games will be fought on UB over the course of a month. I took the liberty of copy-pasting the Beast Herds lists for your enjoyment and criti…

Quote from Sodder: “Been pondering one this for some time now - how would one ever stand a chance of taking out anything but the flimsiest of cowboys with the jabber breath. Skirmishers and magers wandering off on their own I get but cowboys - I'm just not seeing it. ” I'll admit that I wanted this part to be provocative. But essentially it's not about killing cowboys outright. It's about having in the list a combination of options that make using them more difficult and riskier. In other words:…

Update! I speed-painted some Forest Eagles. They are far from perfect, but they are fine for now. the-ninth-age.com/community/ga…bdd4083c10089602e4ca2c713 I also put some paint on the unit fillers/falconers WiP. the-ninth-age.com/community/ga…bdd4083c10089602e4ca2c713 There will probably be more models/stuff on the base, but I wanted to see how the converted models would look with some paint on. One of the guys is missing any highlights for now. Here's the "finished" guy: the-ninth-age.com/commu…

I can wholeheartedly recommend the Wildform+Hero's Heart Chieftain combo: R6 with Parry is probably the best protection that model can get on foot. Others might prefer Aaghor's, but the downside is that it kind of forces you to go for a weapon that strikes last, plus losing the Parry. And flaming attacks are not that rare in the current gaming scene.

the-ninth-age.com/community/ga…bdd4083c10089602e4ca2c713 Mine double as Great Weapon Centaurs. Goats mounted on boars is not even close to the wackiest thing I've seen in this game, but it's alright if it doesn't float your boat! (conversion using Savage Ork Boars + Longhorns)

  • Neat! I'm intrigued by your basing scheme. Is that a texture paint? Will you transform it into a classic desert look, or leave it with that "martian" colour?

Hobby update! I've been painting some more Briar Maidens. I've now almost finished the second batch, only minor details to adjust, bases (but as noted before, I'm out of static grass) and the unit banner left to do. the-ninth-age.com/community/ga…bdd4083c10089602e4ca2c713 the-ninth-age.com/community/ga…bdd4083c10089602e4ca2c713 That brings the unit to 12-strong, and that's as many deer and weird GW elf models as I'll ever paint. Quote from ukrocky: “soundcloud.com/user-486661300/…atch-and-the-50-challenge Episode 13 is up, with mono recording @SmithF ” 10/10 , would listen again! I don't think the recording loses in sound quality, but having the sound come from both speakers helps and reminds you that you're actually listening to radio, not having invisible people whisper in your ear. Any chance of seeing photos of your rats, then? Or the Italian Herb Elves?

  • The point is that if the SE player CHOOSES to opt for a Rock-Paper-Scissors build, then he shouldn't complain for being hard countered. My post and some that followed claim that there IS a way to play a balanced Sylvan Elf list that doesn't "auto-lose" to magic missiles. Then again, these balanced lists are not part of the frustrating lists that nobody can catch, as @Cam points out. So perhaps T9A balancing works as intended? Also, regarding Tree/Elf synergy: I took a double Treefather list to E…

  • I think that you can go character light with Beast Herds, as the fighting units are very good on their own even against monsters or cowboys. So as long as you pick the right tools for the job, you can pass on most characters. Minimal magic investment is a huge discussion: I've found that an Adept plus a Greater Totem bearer can suffice, but other players go a lot more magic-heavy with as much as a Master+Adept+Totem Bearer combination. Regarding gear, the issue is that most BH characters already…

  • Quote from IntrigueAtCourt: “On a different note, @SmithF I heard you do roster challenges - how about this one: Mandatory inclusion of: Ancient Dragon + unit of 12 Ryma knights (minus RNF models for characters in the unit). ” Bear in mind that it's been a long while since I last played HE. But here are some general principles I'd apply for that exercise: - With a big unit of shock cavalry and a 1000-point combat monster, the list shouldn't be a bowline, nor a mixed arms list. if you're already …
