Let me rephrase: what should we do with smaller infantry blocks? Create room for them?

Quote from berti: “We also just added a passus that no unit may be taken more than once (twice in big games) if it is not a core unit ” I personally like this; but it's also not very needed imo. Mainly since there are already much restrictions on place. I feel maybe we should make an exception on the "15 hitpoints minimum" for units like ranger and pathfinders .... Perhaps allow one Footslugger unit in the second batch to be smaller? How can we tailor this?

Quote from berti: “Perhaps shooters above a specific number of shooting units (2) loose the scoring ability? ” Shooting units are capped, so not nessecary imo. Perhaps if we change the whole scoring system too (and Discipline system) - something that is also being worked on, but as a second step. I thought about free banner and command options, but the idea of armies paying for it, to not create extra room. Thats why armies are squeezed to 4.000 in the first place. Also we are trying (and this i…

Quote from Ungrik: “@DanT changed table sizes... ” It's def. more virus proof. But for know I'd keep it 6x4, as infantry will probably take up a lot of space. I expect some line formation too Quote from Ungrik: “Quote from Arjelte: “I think you should maybe spell out a bit more what to do with skirmishers. I think you got it covered (assuming you don't want skirmishers being footsluggers) by saying footsluggers are units of min 15 hp and only footsluggers can make units of 10hp max extra, but if…

So @DanT post brought forth the option of fielding 5 light shooting blocks, 2 monsters and one unit of cav, and maybe artillry, which can focus fire and kill much of the opponents army. Shooting has an advantage due to low movement. I thinks what still helps here is special deployment, which is still in place, and the fact a list can field 2 monsters and a block of cavalry. But the threat of abuse per gunline is real, so let's see .... Few sollutions; - Do nothing; special deployment, 2 monsters…

Side-step: infantry iteration "footsluggers" For infantry! Footsluggers set up

Quote from Arturiki: “That's still infantry (in general), right? ” If it's infantry or beast on a 20mm or 25mm square base, or infantry on a 40mm square base, yes. But if there is a weak spot regarding gunlines, we need to check it out! PS obviously this iteration will not have the same balance as the main game - known and accepted - it's not meant to have, it's meant to have roaring infantry dominating the field. But we should try and patch obvious weaknesses.

Quote from DanT: “I would suggest paying careful attention to shooting/gunlines (Both just in terms of being structurally strong but also in terms of whether they count as footsloggers). ” Thanks for the tip. What you think is a possible skew here, what is the weak spot?

The green hordes have great appeal for sure. I wonder what armies really struggle to fit the Footsluggers theme?

Quote from Arturiki: “So let me see if I got it right: 1. First standard cavalry/beast unit has no restriction. That's how it was meant 2. Does a mounted character within an unit count as just an unit or as 2 different picks? 2 different pick. Your characters love infantry! 3. The 10 more HP isbasically overriding the high-limit restriction of the infantry unit. So if the book said 20-30, this would be now 20--40 (considering all models are HP1). That's how it was meant 4. What happens after the…

Quote from DanT: “I don't think single models are quite the devil they are made out to be here, nor is changing them the silver bullet that people think it is. ” Agreed, but in my opinion, they are also part of the secondary problem: elite none-monster units are now so powerful - to cope with the bigger violence - it pays off they play them as small darts.

Indeed; can only be solved systematically. And honestly, what are the chances that happens..?! As we know there are people that would like to see a more infantry based iteration, perhaps a homebrew or auxiliary can be made. Perhaps make a new thread for this.

Quote from berti: “First step would be to make single models follow the rnf movement rules. One reform. Else just wheels etc. Makes them a tad slower and harder to avoid sight of infantry. ” This is a good example of the second category of fixing. Will def help, though it should be a broader approach then just this.

Quote from wombat: “Quote from Pellegrim: “Or a combination of the two. ” Not a fan of either TBH. Would it not be easier to just buff Core Infantry ? Say........ 1) Core Infantry get Objective Secured a la 40K. 2) Restrict Line Formation to Core Infantry Only, and reinstate Combat Res Bonus for Ranks whilst in Line. This should encourage the use of either more and/or larger Core Inf Units. ” Thats exactly what should not be done haha. We're trying to replace the current bandaids with actual fix…
