  • I think I really have to reactivate my old Monte Carlo tool for simulating close combat statistics.

  • You really should not compare 25mm unit 7 wide with 20mm unit 6 wide. In that scenario, the wide unit is of course in massive advantage just because of formation. But not taking into account the clumsiness during all that turns before combat. A fair comparison is normally one that considers units being similar wide, even if this is not the regular formation. Here I would compare Eadbashers 5 wide with ID being 6 wide.

I think complexity is lower than for previous books, and that is a good thing.

I don't think radioactivity fits the concept. As far as I understand, Dark Shards can be somehow loaded with an external power source, which is not possible with radioactive substances. I think they should be more a kind of very explosive Lithium battery.

I lately had the idea of 'decimation': When in 12" range of a Tyrant, a unit can sacrifice 10% of his bodies to get a +1 bonus for one discipline roll. Not sure whether this should be done before or after the roll. After seems a bit strong, but before feels a bit to weak. Not sure.

Sounds like you want the Vermin Demon to be summoned. I kinda like it.

Well, I see lots of cowboys with low armour, and some of them even with 2 wounds only.

  • The 16 armies are set in stone and will neither be separated nor merged. And I like that decision.

  • Quote from Marcos24: “Did dwarves have plate before empire in warhammer? Obviously in 8th edition both had it but how far back? ” In 4th edition, Deepwatch had. Kind of. Well it was actually heavy armour with a rune engraved that increased armour by one. So actually...kind of plate armour. The more I think about it, the less background and gameplay necessity I personally see for EoS to have mass production of 4+ armour.

  • Well, I can understand DH players feeling stepped on their toes, when human faction has sophisticated plate armour on core while DH just have them in special section.

I like squares of 2x2 as flankers.

  • Maybe you misunderstand. I'm against KoE getting plate armour. I just question EoS having it, because this might step on the toes of DH, ID and WDG.

  • Well, why not ask the armour question the other way round? Is there a strong background or gameplay reason for EoS to have armour 3 as mundane equipment?

  • I think they should be able to choose between halberd and great weapon, but not have a special rule for great weapons to strike in normal initiative order. As compensation, I could really imagine 2 attacks.

  • Well, those few, rare, better pieces of armour in KoE possession can easily be represented by magic items.

  • Maybe plate armour is not only about technique and manufacturing skill, but also related to a different kind of raw material? Material that is not available outside EoS, DH and ID mines. Our fantasy world does not necessarily have to contain the same elements as the real world.

  • Well, I think we don't want black powder to be spread wider among the official armies. We just need some kind of logic reasoning. I think the part with the availability of the required resources, combined with a strict ban on trading them, is already a good start. But I think there could be put some more effort in this story. What about an in-game article, written by a merchant or alchemist, telling the audience about history and laws of gunpowder? Is this something that would help to anchor the…

  • I like some of the explanations. We haven't asked the question how long EoS, DH, VS and ID already have gunpowder. Maybe it is really rather new, and there was just not enough time to spread around the world.

  • Okay, nuff about those giants. I'd rather shift your attention to another background related question: What is stopping technology transfer in the world of the 9th age? In boring reality world, new inventions (especially those for military applications) rather quickly spread around the world. In real world at about 1100 the whole of Europe was in that very cultural era we affiliate with KoE. And in 1500 the whole of Europe was in that era we affiliate with EoS. 1500 was significantly more advanc…

  • Quote from Mad 'At: “Quote from Eldan: “I'll get excited as soon as I see 20 or 30 different poses. All the alternative Ratmen I've seen had 3 poses max for their infantry which looks horrible in 30 rat units. ” Dragon Claw Miniatures have five different poses at least, and are fairly easy to convert to get many more.
