  • Quote from Shino: “Why (althouth the cost suggest that it was the intention here) aegis(+2, max4+) does not specify to aegis(2+, against flame). Strictly as written I believe it should count to all model's aegis saves? ” The maximum in this example is a conditional application applied only to the part of the rule before the comma. Otherwise having for example Aegis (2+, against Flaming Attacks) and Aegis (5+) would mean that you cannot take the Aegis (5+) against attacks that don't have flaming …

  • Quote from Kronos: “Does 9th not save us from these agonizing situations? ” Nope, you're stuck. You'll have to send in something to help deal with the problem. A diagram of the situation would be handy though. Quote from Kronos: “I’m now just reaching out to the rule masters and ancient heads of the forum... did ya think of this particular situation when ya wrote the rules? Is this how you would intend for it to play out? Clearly no right or wrong answer. ” It's not an intended way to play, just…

  • Quote from Damo: “3. Its a world with alchemical magic. Not every army book can field battle alchemists, but maybe every army with fire arrows have enough access to rudimentary alchemical fire (slightly magical sulphur or something) to bypass Lindybeige's critique that it would just blow out, or not do much when it lands. tl:dr a wizard did it. ” The candle example tickled me, because I've had birthdays where "magic candles" have been used. For those who don't know they're the ones that re-light…

  • Quote from Arturiki: “A single character on a 20-25mm square base, well, I can pass that they can just pivot without losing movement. But something on a 40+ square base? Does not really make sense, does it? As I state below, maybe I have a really bad knowledge of this part of the game. ” All that matters is being a single model, the base size isn't relevant. Quote from Arturiki: “But they can still move like light troops, right? They can run in the backward direction and so on. ” Yes. Single mod…

  • Quote from Arturiki: “Single infantry units are not that of a problem, although I don't see why the rank should pivot but not the single character. ” I'm not sure I understand what you mean by this. Quote from Arturiki: “An infernal enginegiant or any big single miniature can just decide to charge you when it was facing the opposite direction. ” Only models with Random Movement can charge things they're not facing. And this is only because they don't really charge, they overrun (also it's why yo…

  • Quote from JordanBladen: “I would like to invite any of the team who worked on the book to offer some insight / guidance onto reasons for the change from what can only be described as a massive divergence from the guidelines IMHO. ” It would be extremely helpful if you could provide some specific examples of where you feel the guidelines weren't adhered to.

  • Quote from Arjelte: “I think it would be best to keep a low fantasy army in there. You can't please everyone ofc, but an army for lowfantasy fans, one for random-lovers etc. is imo the right approach. Different armies should appeal to different people. ” I think it's fine to have all armies with high fantasy elements. But not taking those high fantasy units shouldn't mean your list is automatically noncompetitive. We've precedent with the UD army where they've been given Terracotta and Barrow Le…

  • Quote from RomanRagnorak: “I tried to explain to my opponent that he needed to stop 1 inch away from my BSB since he wasn't declaring a charge, but he didn't understand. ” The unit declares the charge, not the player. (page 74 of the slim book, 2.2. Enemy unit) Quote from RomanRagnorak: “The other thing that I did was after the game I looked at the screenshot I took at the end and realized that on this scenario (King of the Hill), he didn't actually move his units into the terrain. He had moved …

  • Quote from Chronocide: “Game going on much longer than expected is a good reason to stop. ” Why?

  • Quote from DarkSky: “So let's say you play and the game goes on much longer than expected. An unlikely charge in turn 5 basically ends the game and both players see that. You won't ever accept a concede as perfectly fine behaviour in that situation? You absolutely do need to roll every single die until the very end? ” Unless you need to pack up and go "now" for some reason* and not in maybe 20 minutes time after finishing the final turn, what exactly is the harm in just playing through that fina…

  • Quote from WhammeWhamme: “ Quote from theunwantedbeing: “ Quote from WhammeWhamme: “*shrug* people are oversensitive to "politics". ” It's unsurprising given the current climate around geeky franchises that are being haphazardly injected with identity politics at the expense of the established lore, characters and quality of storytelling. ” And the only person putting identity politics into anything here is y'all. ” It's about how the message is said, not what the message is that's the problem. …

  • Quote from WhammeWhamme: “It's a noteworthy trait. Many of the T9A cultures are not gender equal. ” Which ones? Quote from WhammeWhamme: “*shrug* people are oversensitive to "politics". ” It's unsurprising given the current climate around geeky franchises that are being haphazardly injected with identity politics at the expense of the established lore, characters and quality of storytelling.

  • Quote from RomanRagnorak: “Well here I am with about 35 games under my belt and it is really hard going. I think I've only won 6 games in 9th and the vast majority of my games I score 6 or less. So how long does it take to start having fun? ” Fun comes from playing, not winning. Quote from RomanRagnorak: “I've read some guides but reading a guide only does so much, I'm the sort of person who needs someone to sit with me and explain exactly how to use chaff because I haven't even figured that out…

  • Quote from Wesser: “Randomness is bad. For example The Doombell of another world where you rolled 2D6 and got a random effect that could be entirely worthless or game-winning depending on situation. ” That's risk/reward and strategic decision making, not randomness It's not balanced, so wouldn't appear in T9A of course but as an example it's definitely not randomness. Quote from Wesser: “Stuff like current Doomblade or Jezzails wounding themselves and 1's to hit isn't random, but simply reflect …

  • I see your argument but one of our armies is made entirely out of Daemons. But rather than dismiss the idea as silly or unreasonable, lets give it some thought and see how it might be implemented. Having a secondary set of limitations like Standard, Unusual and Rare on top of the normal slot limitations could be quite interesting. eg. Most core would be Standard, but some would be considered Unusual. Most special troops would be Unusual, but some could be Standard or Rare. Most heavily restricte…

  • Quote from Mad 'At: “Quote: “They are proud, too, of their high standards of education and the equality between the sexes. ” ” I think you've got the wrong source for that. Scroll Issue #7 page 39 is turn 5 of a battle report. *edit* As per the post below, it's actually from page 43 on Scroll issue #7.

  • Quote from Vulgarsty: “Can anyone think of any WFB units that have been cut from the current T9A lists? I mean - i know say “Chaos Ogres” or Trolls are now replaced by a “Large Infantry” option so that doesn't feel like a total squitting I was wondering if anyone could highlight something that did exist and none of the current entries would act as a plausible home for it. Any thoughts? ” Technically everything that wasn't 0-X in WHFB but is in T9A as you're losing out on the ability to take thos…

  • Yeah it's an error. The most likely cause is the weapon rules change a while back. We went from limiting lances to mounted models only, to saying infantry can't use them. We did the same change for spears, they went from being infantry only to only usable by infantry. RAW you can't use it (or not use it, the game errors out) RAI you can't use it (because you can't use the weapon enchanted or not) It's being changed.

  • Quote from trulyelse: “Random charges presents a strategic decision: "Do I charge this unit that's a little far away, potentially opening myself up to a counter-charge, or do I continue to move forward as normal, and make it easier to charge them next round?" ” That feels more like you're just explaining the decision process in making a charge and not really how it makes a randomly rolled charge range something players are okay with as opposed to randomly rolling anything else. Quote from trulye…

  • Quote from trulyelse: “Quote from theunwantedbeing: “The T9A community does like some randomness: - Random charges - Flee/Pursue - D3+1 type rolls instead of a D6 roll - Re-rolls to avoid bad effects - other stuff I can't think of off the top of my head ” Ah, yes: - Risk/Reward - Risk/Reward - Risk Mitigation - Risk Mitigation ” Care to elaborate on those answers in a bit of detail?
