It is one support unit. It is one support unit with some very obvious strengths and limitations. It is not the one and only way that the army has to close the gap. It is one unit, and there are lots of different ways to accomplish the goal of closing the gap in the army. Given that it is limited in number (both in the number you can bring and the number of models that can fit inside), it is clearly meant to support the army, not be the primary focus of it. It does not detract from the rank and f…

Quote from Shukran: “so we are agreeing that for homebrews there s no more requirement of x models each entry to be right? ” 1) We aren't talking about homebrew. Just about a new unit for the DE. 2) There never has been a requirement of X model. So long your model is on the correct base size and is differentiated from other units, you can use what you want. We are merely discussing the concept of the new unit. It is imagined by the designers to be one way, and the artwork in the LAB will reflect…

Quote from Peacemaker: “I prefer the "no listing of models" for new units right away. When I convert up a flying pirate ship and put it on the talbe, I don't want opponent to say "mehmehemeh, it's supposed to be a tentacle monster!". .....cause then I'll put my Hentai Art Model on the table and then be asked to leave the store. ” I mostly agree with this. Having the designers give a description of "here's what we were thinking of when we thought of this" can be really helpful in translating rule…

But also boring. The visual of the unit coming from the monster is far more appealing than it being a war platform.

Its a single unit with a unique purpose. If that isn't worth a lot of complexity, what is? Hellmaw has a bunch of rules, too. And it is really cool. Same with the vampire bloodlines. Lots of rules, but lots of flavor. It's not like every single unit in the army is going to have that many rules. Also, what is with the doom and gloom? "Oh no! This one unit is clearly designed to support an infantry playstyle! Clearly my infantry playstyle will be ruined if it is in the army! After all, everyone kn…

Quote from Arturiki: “Quote from Radian: “why DREAD elves are called DREAD in T9A? What makes them so "dreadfully"? Are they at all? ” My ingenious answer is to have a similar name to dark elves. But I have literally no idea about this, pure guess. ” That or they have a reputation for being cruel and dangerous in combat. The best battle is one that is won before the fighting starts. If they have a reputation for appearing out of the fog, with horrible monsters in tow, burning and pillaging and l…

Quote from Eol: “Somehow, the total pack of a 20 warriors + 1 character looks like expensive for me, considering their total cost and effect. Surelly knowing other entries of the armybook like new xbowmen ... etc.. used in not expensive or big units but effective could make it worth for this leviatan ” It seems like it is a really unique way to provide shooting protection for a decent sized unit. Better to have your executioners or dancers or whatever go across the field while taking no shooting…

The Mist Leviathan is such a cool idea. Using a modified ambush for transporting a unit is such a great idea. I'm really impressed. I can't wait to see the final book!

  • I think it is a drawback because flaming aegis exists. I have had more than one game where kadim were stuck forever in combat against a single character with a flaming aegis. At least it is a little better now with flaming banners being a turn on/off thing. I remember playing a game in the olden days where a single skink on a pteradon with a flaming aegis held a huge chariot unit with the flaming banner for the entire game. Edit: and everyone answers all at once

  • @DanT I am curious about your comments regarding the army pushing away from combat infantry battle lines. What do you think is making you feel this way? For the most part, the infantry in the book has (roughly) the same armament it had before. Is it the CG having pistols? The blunderbusses having more range? The existence of the bastion? Incendiary? The shooting units generally being more useful than they were before when in groups? What differences between the old book and the new book are caus…

I just happen to have Battlescribe, so that's what I use. I think there may be some math issues, but it works fine as a jumping off point. Also, I'm too lazy…

  • Thanks to Battlescribe getting the new book in their system, I finally took the time to build my first list just to see where things fall. I definitely like how everything is falling into place when list building, and am looking forward to some day in the far off future where I actually get to play a game. I'm definitely going to be following my love of disciples, baby taurukh, and the titan for whenever I am able to play for the first time. How have people been finding the chariot? It looks lik…

Since this thread has been overrun by endless complaints, lets talk about things that are actually LIKED about the book. Both because the team that put the book together did a great job, and because if the team is working on things, it is good for them to have a barometer of what people like. If we go just by complaints, the entire book will be reduced to a flavorless slag. I'll go first: I LOVE the flavor given by everything. Flaming attacks and flammable actually matter, Kadim actually tunnel …

Quote from Bogi: “Ok so if ID core has 11 features + special plate armour + extra good shooting weapons then how many special rules and extra weapons should elves have to be considered elite while being res3 and no armour? ” This is the wrong way to look at it. It isn't "Every army gets the same number of special rules and weapons to become whatever value of 'elite' they need to be". Look at it as "what rules and features are needed to deliver on the flavor and fantasy of the army in question?"

  • Bruisers. Are they less survivable than tribesmen? Yes. Do they open up knights like can openers? Also yes.

It is the same as playing a point nerfed version. I would be interested in seeing how well the army does at a lower point limit.
