  • To me Essence of War sounds like one of these cheapo mobile game app. Anything new including "Age of" or "of War" isn't going to be memorable, these have seen too much use. "Spearhead" sounds really interesting because it doesn't resemble anything I know. It's going to be a pain to translate as the expression won't necessarily have an equivalent in other languages. Perhaps with creativity though, this could be the best choice. "Border Patrol" doesn't sound very exciting to me at all. I don't dis…

  • R2 for the malnourished and sickly mobs of slave rats with patches of hair missing and so on. R3 for the legions of rat soldiers. Isn't there space to give a pretty good amount of story here, simply through base stat difference?

  • For me it is important to maintain the miniature collections, conversion effort and personalisation have gone into it. Especially important for our characters! Keep at least the combinations available right now. Want to make it simpler? Remove the condition of orc type for mount access, give every option to all warlords. You will end up with some combination more attractive than others (internal balance), that's fine. I believe the mount options are simple enough in their design that this can be…

  • After 3D chess, 3D wargaming?

  • Quote from Kudis: “Just the name young orc is so..., bland and unimaginative... Hope it's just a wip. What's wrong with feral orc? ” Nothing, the team hasn't said they would change the name feral orc. They might or might not, forum users used young as an alias to describe the direction the fluff was going towards.

  • @Fnarrr taking the general ideas underlying the rule as put out by the team (working under their framework), what alternative rule would you come up with? The purpose: Quote from ValourUnbound: “You know that VS should be an army with several big blocks of troops. A show of hands please: who has failed a charge because the back corner of your deep Rat-at-Arms bus clipped with a friendly unit? Hopefully I'm not the only one who has had this problem on the battlefield. And that's with just two bri…

  • This seems like a very complicated rule to understand without a figure. I spent 5 minutes scratching my head wondering the same as @Jomppexx, and I wouldn't have gotten it without @Bogi.

  • Ben non il a bon le hérisson. L'ordre des modificateurs dit d'abord les divisions puis les additions. Le +1 Force + 2 PA n'est donc pas divisé par deux.

  • That was WHFB fluff.

  • Something as small as defensive and offensive skills is already a pretty good story teller for the maturation of fighting skills among orcs, in my opinion. The rest can come with the package of equipment and special rules. It's easy to over design things when you are trying to really reinforce an idea, but on the battlefield small but well chosen differences can really matter in how you choose and use different units.

  • Personally I don't like the concept. It makes us very disciplined (and piling up our own bodies for it). There was a similar theme in WHFB with black orc animosity quelling, which given how bad losing control of our units was (which is still the case if you risk fleeing now) became practically mandatory. It never felt very rewarding to me, I felt punished for choosing OnG instead. Are we not aiming at a horde feel? We should be sensitive to mob psychology and when we are badly beaten and don't h…

  • I think the confusion here is between a character model (the end result) and the various entries in the book to get there. Of course the entries retain their profile, but they are not a model yet, they are a blueprint to build one. The multi-part model uses only one defensive profile, which is built from the BRB instructions and the profiles stated (and potentially modified by list building) in the character and mount book entries. If anything could to be made further clear it is when exactly ar…

  • Quote from Chronocide: “It is way too much to unpack. Like for Characters, rather than listing the base size as an indirect way to establish which units it can join. Each character with a list of each unit it can join, if it counts as mismatched or matched to each join-able unit, and how many models it counts as when joined for the purpose of counting ranks. ” Is it really less complex to give people a general rule in the BRB, as opposed to listing every single possible combination? I would need…

  • There's a lot of things to unpack, I'll focus on one thing: The aim of the Construct was to broaden the category to a mechanical contraptions that wouldn't necessarily be chariots, which I thought was kind of a misnomer for a lot of potential concepts, like the ID model you present here. You can think of the Infernal Bastion too. War machines are now constructs too which was a simplification they didn't need anything extra to be merged in, as they cannot charge or march. It is just unfortunate t…

  • Quote from Fontetas: “we are giving it more complexity, when it would be necessary to look for the opposite XD the-ninth-age.com/community/in…-in-the-current-ong-book/ the-ninth-age.com/community/in…e-of-ong-complexity-poll/ ” The point is save on complexity, and get some of it back where it makes the book more interesting/flavourful. This way you force yourself to keep only the best ideas, and clean up what isn't bringing as much to the book. I think simply cutting off content would feel pretty…

  • I think choosing it at the list building stage also makes it feel more personal. It's not like all leaders are supposed to do everything, but it comes down to their own style and personality. What I personally had in mind was a bit less choice but a bit more story and depth, while being believable for both orcs and goblin leaders. Building on @Arturiki ideas: Quote from War cry: “Once per game and at the beginning of any Player turn, the general may trigger a war cry. The effect lasts until the …
