  • Quote from Garaz Zaki: “What would German Fragrance of War be? Beer and sausages? That sounds pretty good ti me! While you move miniatures around you say? Even better! ” The battle on the cold buffet.

  • Quote from Arjelte: “I'll take down my vote for border patrol. Good points! (Sadly) Spearhead is my favourite Essence of war sounds to me like the bazillionth (mobile) game with an 'X of Y' name. World of Warcraft, league of legends, god of war, gems of war, even kings of war. Rise of empires, state of survival, kiss of war (wtf?) etc. etc. etc. Edit: thought a bit more about Essence of War. To me that is exactly not what the game is in relation to the full game. The relationship is more like: '…

  • Hopefully Sun Szu doesn't arise joined by his lawyers to tell us that it has to be called the ART of War.

  • border patrol to me is a bit too specific. It would mean that all battles are about battles at a border. Some armies might not have fixed borders at all while others find ways to fight deeper in ones territory (vermins coming from the sewerage, undeads being summoned just anywhere where there are deads to summon. daemons coming from portal gates, forest spirits potentially living in any forest.....).

  • Quote from Idum: “Wait, which scale can we expect to be reachable when the updated QS arrives? I definitely had in mind small(ish) battles, up to approximately 1200pts max. Indeed if this enables larger scales (say up to 3k pts) that changes a few things - maybe if we had a sneak peek? ” theoretically it's designed for smaller battles. but maybe just with the need to have products that dont compete with each other concerning army sizes. why shouldnt one be interested to 10k QS battles. in fact I…

  • I prefer "Essence of War". It shows that the game is the Essence of the "Full" game (=T9A Fantasy Battles). So it suggests to have an easier ruleset, including everything that is important to play a game similar to the full game. Furthermore, it's still an epic name and doesnt reduce the game to be just a small battles game. Maybe I'm special but IMO that game should not only be a game only for beginners or a small battle version of the full game. Basically, it just has a streamlined ruleset and…

Quote from piteglio: “Quote from Trakritch: “What was used to make the army lists files ? I feel like I should organize the VC and OK design proposal so we don't loose them in this thread and the best way would be to use the design template of the other armies I think. Who did the layout for the army list 1.1 draft ? ” good question. when you say 1.1, do you refer to the original book from ages ago? in that case, i think it was done in inDesign by @saint_barbara or @Crafty. if you refer to the c…

Nobody willing to work on defining the missing lists means no lists....sadly. I dont mean like everybody could take an hour to write down "something". I mean somebody knowing the army well or at best a little team defining the fitting (=most representative) unit entries via heavy community-involvement and being in contact with the appropriate ACS. Then after maybe one or two rounds of QS-internal discussion and feedback to the community, it's time to find fitting character entries. Once thats do…

  • two things: 1.) We need to define the "regular" army list....the bread and butter of what DH represents. That's why that list should be as low-themed as possible. There are going to be themed lists in the future. 2.) You shouldnt focus too much on very specific special rules as it's possible that a unit cant have them all anyway because QS is simplified and streamlined. As a rule-of-thumb: units in QS hardly have more than one unit-specific rule but mostly use the available set of special rules.…

  • Quote from Remy77077: “... For future things, some kind of 1 page QS summary sheet (turn sequence etc) would be really handy, as it slowed us down a lot having to check that kind of thing and flick through the whole draft rulebook each time (also my fault I only printed out one copy and should've done two really in retrospect!). ” the-ninth-age.com/community/fi…6bf7f77a5a935b0bbd5fbeebf

  • Quote from Remy77077: “... === pg9 Models and Base Contact / pg 17 Movement It's not clear if you can or cannot move through your own models You cant pg.12 If I'm reading this right, Hindering Terrain has no effect on the movement of 20x20 or 25x25 based troops at all? So it does nothing other than offer cover and give broken ranks to Infantry models? (I'm just very surprised as I am used to units being slowed down by woods, ruins, marshes etc). it does nothing else pg.15 What I feel like the wh…

  • Quote from Remy77077: “I was just watching @Mad 'At s video and realised the rule "A Character can only join a unit if it has the same base size as the unit’s models" actually solves a few of my queries. I'd not noticed that before. This seems particularly mean for the poor OnG though, no hiding your Goblin Witchdoctor in the Orc unit ” Yes thats a compromise for keeping it easy. Still every character at least has one unit to hide

Quote from Lord Drakon: “Greetings! I recently got some interest in the amazing work on the Quickstarter, especially its basic army lists. I have always loved the small and fluffy detachments of our glorious armies... With the Quickstarter Army List I went through my bits collection and I am able to build 8 out of 16 armies with a lot of creativity and imagination with minimum investment ... ... The second reason I like this a lot, is because it allows me to have multiple army sets I could take …

  • Quote from Mad : “My own experience with QS was that the step from Basic to Advanced was confusing due to the changes in Unit Profiles. I think some of the most glaring examples are the Model Rules usually connected to Model Classification. Such as Swiftstride missing on Cavalry and Stomp (1) missing on Large. This makes it feel very unnatural to experienced players, but I can't image it is comfortable for beginners either. I agree that the step from Basic to Advanced becomes small, and that a w…

  • Quote from Mad : “... And the big thing: Move all the Model Rules into the Basic Rules This would increase the load on the Basic Rules, which is a bad things. But the upside is that you can use the exact same Unit Profiles under the Basic Rules and the Advanced rules. Personally I think this would be a huge gain. To keep it fairly easy for new players, the sheets with the Pre-made army lists could contain a copy of all the relevant Model Rules that they use. ... ” This IMO would increase the com…

  • Quote from Mad : “... To compensate, maybe magic in its entirety could be moved to the Advanced Rules, and then you drop the wizards from the pre-made armies. ” the premises of the premade armies has been defined to include a wizard when the army has access (so DH being the exception). Reason: Not having magic would make the game lose half of what it makes a fantasy game. E.g. KoE vs EoS wouldnt feel more than a historical battle.

  • Quote from JimMorr: “Maybe I am biased as I watched KoE played. With very high model cost, 1hp. Grails felt like 2 unlucky d6 rolls could cost you a game. ” thats one of very few exceptions. Indeed I have experienced Grail Knigts running away after one casualties from ranged attacks. BUT: that you only happen using the basic QS rules because there are no special rules except from adding such a rule as unit special rule. In first instance we decided only to give undeads and daemons fearless becau…

  • Quote from JimMorr: “... I've watched a few demo games by @piteglio on youtube and I am afraid the problem is our rules are not good for small number of models... the game results seem to be terribly random. At the same time game retained a lot of hidden complexity like redirecting units by single models. ” The most random thing is passing or failing a Discipline-Test. While the BRB with reroll Dis 10 (Gen+BSB) is awfull, I admit that without BSB there are also problems. But that is no QS proble…

  • Quote from JimMorr: “Quote from DJWoodelf: “The whole issue is that the management has defined QS as a "separate" game and that the whole project structure is defined around QS being treated as autark. IMO that not only is a big mistake but also does not sell the truth to current and new players. ” Either you are making a new game, designed on purpose to play differently and address different needs. Or you create 'How to play guide'. Now it seems you are trying to be just a little bit pregnant..…
