Quote from DanT: “On the ACS comment... I must admit I am not sure who the BH ACS team are... But I would encourage people to apply and get involved if they think they could help encourage discussion and activity on the BH forum ” Not sure there is (internally, a debrief with the former ACS might bring some elements?) but there is a vacancy: the-ninth-age.com/community/ne…-looking-for-new-members/

I actually believe popularity to be a stronger indicator, the issue is that it depends on too many factors to be used as a driver for change. It is a good metrics too be used as assessment though, particularly when looking at the evolution. Keeping the example of BH, if their representation has halved following the last update then this trend can be linked to that event. At the moment as @Just_Flo rightfully pointed the only lever is point adjustment. If by bringing BH in line in terms of balanc…

Quote from nflqt: “Merci beaucoup.

First and to see if there actually is an issue: I'd suggest to look at the evolution of the army popularity and usage: either through the tourney analysis, either through the subforum frequentation (provided that we have such granularity). If numbers show a significant drop then there is an issue, that needs addressing (through point, unless external changes had sufficient impact to make completely obsolete some BH entries). BH is not one person and I don't think there is a community will to dis…

These solutions exist but only cater to a portion of the players as it only partly answer the cravings imposed by lockdowns and other constraining governmental decrees. ID and BH are the 2 least represented armies, and BH forum activity in particular is saddeningly low. All I am saying is that a lack of feedback on that ID/BH combination is disappointing for sure, but certainly not the manifestation of an ill intention from BH players and blaming them for it is uncalled for. Right now the last t…

I doubt this is a volunteer non-participation on the BH part but rather a symptom as both armies are the rarest. Combined with the peculiar context of this year it is not surprising. I personally didn't play vs. ID (or at all for that matters) since the new ID LAB despite my interest in it and impatience for the full book with background.

True, but in terms of forum activity BH is the lowest of all and a quick glance on the tournament lists available tends to confirm this unpopularity. For sure the army was not the most popular to begin with. I also have no clue what should be done in waiting of the LAB (which will come in its due time), but the noticeable difference I saw on BH forum is that people get disheartened, more than angry. Which I feel to be more problematic - but again, this is only but a subjective impression. In fac…

I followed the BH forum more than others despite it being my secondary army, for there is much less things going on so easier to keep track of it! What I noticed is that there is a strong turnover with people disengaging from the army they loved, disheartened. BH regularly referred as top tier (based on the list public a year or two ago) and lauded for how good it is does not help as it is not their experience. In turn this reduces the pool to the players who did well with the army in the first …

  • Quote from Remy77077: “GREAT batrep! I loved it, very well written and easy to follow and nice photos which fitted it well too. I do love that in QS batreps it is so much easier to follow, and you can also follow the general strategy as well as get into specific actions without it getting bogged down. This cracked me up "It is said that to this day, the 7 crossbowmen are still running. Very slowly though" I see piteglio has already corrected you (and you understood why) about the very very commo…

  • Quote from piteglio: “Quote from Idum: “1. Where does the full name go? From the example there must be a correspondance (I expect "knorder" is matched with "Knightly Order"); you're right - please list them in a separate file as: \newcommand{\wushidef}{Wu Shi} the first part states we have a new name, the second (without spaces) indicates its Latex name, the third (with spaces and capitals) is the one that will be showed in the book. in this way, translations become very easy. you'll just send T…

  • Quote from greentide: “The picture I have in my head about jesters is way closer to a medieval, bretonnian world than to a steam engineered Renaissance empire world, or is that just me? Not even sure if us unpoetic empire guys would just shoot the jerkin jester on the Spot.. ” I thought the same, but then remembered The Witcher (granted it's bards rather than jester).

  • On it now, that structure is well made! I actually have a few questions: 1. Where does the full name go? From the example there must be a correspondance (I expect "knorder" is matched with "Knightly Order"); 2. How should unique rules (by opposition to premade rules, for which I assumed "general" and "wizard" to exist) be included? For instance Chu Ko Nu or Retinue; 3. The picture to provide: is it the army logo? This last question actually had me looking further: while I strived to only include…

  • Quote from Trakritch: “Quote from piteglio: “@Trakritch is working like a beast on the layout, so it shouldnt take too long before we can release something. i also hope he can be persuaded to give your list a go and make it visually compatible with the official ones : ) ” Well, if you give me .tex files for the units as well as an illustration I could compile them in the new style ” It is only in Word .docx format so far (new laptop, not yet with LaTeX), can I grab a list in .tex somewhere or a …

  • Quote from piteglio: “characters were added to the unit (instead of replacing RnF models as intended) ” I didn't realised "replaced" actually meant "replaced" as in "not there", that's my bad! I understood it as "replaced from front line" and never actually thought about it any further, thank you for pointing out!

  • Quote from piteglio: “agreed - maybe as a peace gesture Idum could even have a look at Caledoriv's book, and see if some readapting/drawing can be done for the empire further east ; ) btw, a couple comments on the rules as well. - Guard of Honour: we might indeed end up needing some minimalistic "mismatching bases" rule in the future (e.g. for DH characters?), so a 40x20 could be an option. alternatively, the Guard could be a separate character who always needs to be in base contact with the Ton…

  • Tsuandan vs. Beasts - the QS battlereport! Yesterday my wife and I had another game - this time she took the BH while I had Tsuandan. In the previous test battle vs. BH (for which I had played both armies) I tried the option of Tong Shuai with no Retinue; this time the Guard of Honour was there, the +1Att +1HP being nice but it quite efficiently counterbalanced by the 40x20 base. On the other end as @piteglio suspected, the Stratagems are confusing for beginners - my wife already struggled with …

  • Quote from piteglio: “the rulesteam doesnt give him a book, he makes his own rules. the opponent wont play yet another test game, he plays against himself. the miniature company wont ship him the minis, he draws them all. you, sir, are a true homebrewer. voilà un petit hommage. the-ninth-age.com/community/ga…4cd2e7c01e6f0b47934d65585 ” Awesome! @DanT spot on. I'd also add for BH a bit about identity crisis. I for instance hope we'd get back to a playstyle more similar to, say, WFB BH v6 rather than the too "orderly" (I can't find the proper word: in v6 they were disorganised and even had an option to have no general, in v7 them were all in good battle order), streamlined and beefed up with bigger minos, bigger monsters. It does translate into the list. For instance cyclops, even if good, just don't feel BH. 2x cyclops are actually dece…

I tried them in: x1: useless. x2: melee impact lesser than other options at the same cost, shooting I ended up wounding myself more than the opponent in several occasions. x3: too big investment that comes with a dedicated list which does not reflect why I picked BH in the first place. Although by x2 or x3 their presence did have an impact on the games, affecting the opponent's choices. Yet each time when their moment to shine came (juicy infantry well packed and in range, monster in the open...…
