  • I got this image looking at thunder beast + paleontology. I can't see the handlers, must be hidden behind the beast butt. d368c033012137a9f7506796e795711f.jpg

Quote from Tyranno: “That was the intended result. ” Thanks a lot for that. I don't think this game needs even more cowboys.

  • AFAIK the main reasons to get a LAB are: 1) IP reasons (Does it infring IP? why WDG, ID and DL got first pick) 2) Playstyle reasons (Does the faction play as it should (playstyles, units sizes, etc)? Why VS and KoE got picked) 3) Existing art & background (Is there enough material already to make the LAB quickly?) Considering this, UD is among the top faction for LAB (with SE). Personally I expect UD to have its LAB announced by next year.

There is this idea in the forums that a +1/-1 to hit/wound/armor/special save is just a 16% change, when in reality it ranges from 20% to 100% depending on the initial stats. Going from wounding on 6+ to 5+ is a 100% increase in damage, while only a +1 to wound. Going from hitting on a 3+ to a 2+ is a 25% increase in damage, while only a +1 to hit. We really need to work to dispel this myth, because it makes people appreciation of special rules incorrect.

  • The main reason why changes are limited is to reduce work that will be obsoleted and chug the LABS as fast as possible. If one army is allowed to change designs, then all other will require the same. As reference, two new designs per army among all factions is the equivalent of a full new book. The second reason why adding changes is not implemented is because it invalidates all the data obtained so far. This means that the new redesigns tend to end up being overcosted or undercosted. Just look …

  • Looking at UD lists this year and last year, there seems to be much more diversity. I think there are more types of list in 2020 than in 2019, even with 4 times more UD players last year. If the army is under performing, points change can definitely solve that. Just look at HbE. They got a 150 point decrease and went from tier 5 to tier 2. I also think the main problem is the feel of the army, not as much the army power. UD was an army strong in magic, on a similar level to HbE, DL and SA, with …

  • Quote from Litoperez: “All in all, maybe this can help to reduce the points cost of such an useless skill. ” Quote from umbranar: “But I agree that the points for it (no idea how much it is), could be lower as high disc or fearless is pretty much everywhere. ” There is no defined cost for abilities and gear. The cost is assigned based on how well it performs. If an ability on a model has little to no impact in the game, it will have little to no impact in the cost of the model if it is removed. …

  • If external power seems like such a big a problem, it can be easily fixed with point changes. The balance is really tight in T9A. Just last year HbE went from tier 5 to tier 2 by getting a 100 pts reduction. What may be problematic is how RPS this spell is. This I would keep an eye on, even if on average this spell is balanced. RPS matchups are boring for both players. What I do like about the hereditary is that it works best in lists with tons of elves rather than lists with monsters and cowboy…

  • I think the Legendary Arcane book gives a pretty clear reason for why occultism doesn't make much sense in a priest. In the second paragraph of Ocultism: "In fact, occultists try to remain hidden not just to avoid the judging eyes of society, but because their "Art",as they call it, thrives behind closed doors and wilts under public gaze. Besides, it is probable that the secrets of the Occult are jealously guarded more to maintain their exclusive prestige than out of fear that evilmen will misus…

I think more important than the stats and rules of each specific unit, is how the army can play as a whole. After the main playstyles of the army are clear, its much more easier to identify which units needs a change/redesign to fulfill their role for one/many of those playstyles. Anyone knows the expected playstyles of BH?

I am surprised this discussion about ID vs DH armor still rages on. There is a clear answer already. DH have the best armor (plate, 2++ against fire), but in pretty limited quantities. ID have the second best armor (plate, 5++ against fire), but in high quantities. This is a pretty obvious consequence of having superior hand-crafted armor vs a high quality industrialized armor. The perfect is the enemy of the good.

Quote from Zwei: “But with the first beta there WAS a real power-creep. ” The reports from tourneys I have seen for beta 1 of ID had pretty mediocre results, similar to tier 3 armies. Was ID doing as good/better than WDG/DL/VS in its first version?

  • No architect in that list? Fortitude 5+ chariot units are the best part of Terracotta :p

I think DH should focus more on special deployment in the future, so that their slow units can compete in the movement phase without being actually fast. Better mobility trick, but the same slow infantry speed. More vanguard (6"), scout, redeploy, etc. So the army still feels like its main focus is blocks of slow dwarves, but due to their advanced technology, meticulousness and mastery over the land, they can still keep up with faster armies.

  • I like the idea of the extra ranks and masses of rats causing collateral damage by their sheer numbers, but I think there is a major problem with the idea of adding a drawback to average (aka lackluster) troops. Since vermin infantry is not really good at fighting, it will need extra rules to compensate its lack of combat prowess. If a negative rule is added that makes them worse at fighting, then another extra positive rule will need to be added to make up for it. So the net effect of this rule…

  • Now I see what you meant. The faction indeed lacks a glass cannon. Quote from tg0098: “I meant the skeletons don't do much damage because of their limited weapon options. ” Skeletons are not damage dealers. The job of skeletons is to be hard to remove and slowly chip the enemy away. The damage dealers in core are the chariots. Impact hits and 25 S5 attacks is nothing to ignore, specially coming from core units.

  • Great initiative!! It is a pretty good analysis, but I would change it slightly. Overall An army that can slowly but steadily pressure the opponent, grinding and outlasting them. It focuses on troops boosted by characters (synergy). Its main play-style is monsters or big blocks of infantry, chariots and monstrous infantry/cavalry. While the army has low mobility, it has some the best ambushers in the game. UD requires a combination of shooting, good magic, tarpits/chaff and strong combat units t…

  • Quote from TheSpid: “UW won't work with the scarab giant as it gains harnessed. ” Undying will: Units with one or more models with Undying Will gain +2 Offensive Skill, +2 Defensive Skill, Lethal Strike, and replace their Shooting Weapons’ Aim with (4+). Characters, Beasts, models with Ensouled Statue, and model parts with Harnessed are not affected by Undying Will. The Ancient Giant model part (the offensive rule) won't benefit from the +2 OS, DS but the defensive part and the Scarabs do benefi…

  • So, the Giant supplement is in its second iteration. 5EGK2N6.jpg Our Ancient Giant got a Scarab options instead of the PW. Previously the PW option was too similar to the club. The Scarab option seems to benefit from the Lethal strike from Giant See, Giant Do, making those 8 attacks lethal and poisonous. Another interesting combo is Distracting from the Scarab upgrade and UW, which would make the giant pretty hard to hit. The limitation for Monarchs of the undead seems sensible, since the Giant …
