  • Yes, giving a bonus may be a better idea?

  • Would be nice to see some armies posted here. I’m gutted i’m so heavily invested in 28 as the space, cost and painting time savings would be great. Its my own fault, i got a warmaster army but didnt have the imagination individually base them and treat them like 28mm figures and use the rulesets i like instead of Warmaster - so i got bored and got rid of them.

Did I mention that I’d like to buy my treemen some rocks to chuck? SE having war machines feels a bit wrong, but a giant tree flinging a (perhaps shorter ranged) boulder seems reaonable

  • Yes but Orcs? great morale, rubbish discipline. i think all rnf should have morale and discipline, but all characters capable of loaning their leadership, just have a single leadership value (as by definition they are disviplined enough to follow their own commands and brave enough to follow their own orders). it is then abundantly clear where and to/from whom Leadership is loanable. so an orc might be morale 8, discipline 6. but an orc hero would be Leadership 8. and they (and any attatched uni…

  • Quote from Nemeroth: “It would probably be quite a stretch to try and claim as generic a term as “Border Patrols” as IP. ” GeeDubs are a lot less objectionable now under KR, so its probably low risk. I think everyone is wary of their historical capacity for being “that” guy/company though that proved such a good way to win friends and influence people become a corporate laughing stock over “Spots the Spaceman”

  • Just been researching “Border Patrol” it is definitely a GW thing (page 97 of the Warhammer Chronicles 2004). It was a 4 page ruleset (back when GW could actually do a good 4 page ruleset unlike the infamous AoS “4 pages”) that aimed to replicate “40k in 40 minutes” for WFB thetrove.net/Books/Warhammer/F…nicles%202004%20(6ed).pdf Like I say, I think its a great name, I just don’t know how our lawyers would feel about it.

  • If Vanguard and Border Patrol hadn’t already had airings from Mantic and GW respectively, they would have been my choices. Given that they are effectively taken - I don’t know whether they are trademarked but would certainly cause search engine result issues, I think Spearhead is the most evocative and is also a quite punchy name in its own right

nice thought but they are a bit small. vicious looking buggers mind.

  • escalation campaigns we usually run an annual multiplayer campaign. 1 battle per month last year people started with 500 points, got 250 for a win and 125 for a loss. expected to paint up their new figures in time for the next battle. most people use this as a motivator to start a new army to paint (penalties for unpainted figs). units destroyed rolled a d6 - on a one they were permanently lost - only 1 unit was permanently destroyed per battle so better to roll for your most expendable first if…

  • ok, I see there are are some unintended consequences. “Shield block”: models Def = attackers Off, is how it kind of needs to run.

  • but the “penalty” they are incurring is forgoing a better weapon than a hand weapon to maximise the defensive synergy between sword and board.

  • Yes I get the sense that boosting Def might be a thing. I agreed with splitting WS into Off and Def because they are quite different things (I mean its one think me stoving your head in with a flail - quite a different thing for me trying to protect myself with it....

  • Quote from CariadocThorne: “Quote from Nemeroth: “Nah Lightening reflexes make that a 3+ ” It does now too though. I'd definitely run some characters with shield and hand weapon if it was +3Def. ” would that be too OP?

  • yeah that would be ok. But on off/def terms they would be 4+

  • interesting debate. I’d like “parry” to be renamed “shield-block” (thus freeing the “parry” slot for a more mordheim like mechanicc (beating opponent's highest “to hit” score to negate an attack) in our eventual skirmish game Shield-block could add a flat +3 Def to sword and board - not insurmountable but giving slaves and gobboes parity with ordinary elves and dwarves (i think +3 is the sweet spot as say spear armed gobboes fighting sword and board gobboes would still be hitting on 4+, as would…

This debate proves we are are all different. I have always loved evil dwarves - from Narnia to Wagner. I have also loved all flavours of chaos/infernal dwarves - from spiky cans to big hats to smooth helms and neat scale armoured. types. they occupy a great niche of evil slavers rather different from dread elves and vermin swarm for instance. They can be elite and expensive or hordes of cheap vassals. they can choose to bring something to every phase but cannot win every phase all the time - the…
