When applying the above guidelines to specific SE units patterns begin to emerge that showcase the issues that some have with them: Pathfinders/Pathfinder Kindred High impact when compared to other armies - This unit has high damage potential against a very specific sub-set of units (high armour low resilience units or units with low armour that stack to-hit modifiers). Against armies that do not field these targets this units cost-effectiveness is poor. Highly maneuverable and fast - As Skirmis…

I believe I can sum up what the majority of SE payers have wanted from their shooting units for sometime using the following points: High impact when compared to other armies When players choose to play SE they want to lean into the prevalent fantasy trope of the master wood elf archer. They expect an army that can be filled up with the deadly archers who can inflict impressive damage to an enemy with just some well placed shots from a simple bow. Their individual archers should each represent t…

  • I really dig those models! They perfectly capture the fantasy of dark or alien fey creatures.

Quote from Folomo: “Quote from funkyfellow: “On the subject of ranked up units of archers, I would posit that changing to a purely Light Troops focused design represents a possible way to help diversify SE from the other elven factions. If SE relied exclusively on Light Troops for shooting with a small amount of monstrous shooting support it would then create a completely different playstyle & theme from that of a bowline of ranked archers supported by bolt throwers, which typifies an HE army's …

Quote from Serwyn: “I would be happy with another archer unit, more elite but non core and still without light troop (but still with qtf), and skirmishers archers being a fairly rare unit (like 0-2). ” It may be important to consider how having multiple archer units can affect the internal balance of an army. As an example look at HE, they have attempted to strike a balance between Seaguard, Citizen Archers, Queens Guard, & Grey Watchers to mixed results. An issue SE have faced for some time now…

Quote from Falco: “Light troops is not going to be, maybe feined flight but it will be similar to heath riders rol. Anyway, I think we should focus on next patch in what we need to get changed not only in points (troop has solution just with points adjust) magical items need a redisign or hard points adjust... because few people use them ” Sadly, as has been said before, any design changes are explicitly off the table for any army not currently in a beta. The one exception to this project wide m…

Quote from DanT: “Personally, what I want as an SE player, is something more similar to earlier incarnations in legacy history. Both because it is how I see the faction thematically/fluff-wise, but also because I think it will alleviate some of these problems. I.e. without the current abundance of QTF (at least not on core troops, maybe removed from many other elements too), and with the primary shooting damage being delivered by more static elements. (Note: not static in absolute terms, just mo…

Quote from Arrahed: “Quote from FilloSov: “This entire thread is really, really weird. Whamme, I think that people is simply saying that SE shooting should be better than the one we have now, since fluff wise we are the shooty elves. Furthermore, our bow enchantments are bad and this fact aggravates SE shooting phase even more. We hope to see a general improvement when the LAB will come. Period. Every time you come up saying "(1) why you want this or that" or also "(2) tell me exactly what you w…

  • Quote from vvalor: “All of this is higly meta dependant, i mean lets suppose, wodg get a big price up on elder felldrake and a big discount on knights, and both sentinels or waywatcher stay the same ... what would happen is sentinels seeing less play and pathfinder more, which means that in next survey we might see a price up on waywatcher and cost drop on sentinels yet, both unit would have still been the same before first update and after second one. Internal balance is just a nice word trying…

  • I'll share some of my own thoughts on Pathfinders & Sentinels *Takes ACS hat off I agree with the sentiment that we really don't need 2 elite skirmishing archer units in the book, but I would also personally be against merging the two unit entries for the reasons others have already pointed out. I would vote for dropping Sentinels entirely from the book and replacing them with a brand new unit as well as spreading out their former role to other units in the book. This change would create large r…

Quote from Laik: “btw. any info when can we expect next update? ” The best we can say is sometime late this year, things are quite difficult to predict at the moment. Depending on how these surveys go and if all the data entry can be completed relatively soon the process could possibly speed up a bit, but its hard to say at the moment.

  • Greetings Forest Born! As some of you may be aware the project is currently asking players to complete a survey for each army that they play regarding internal balance. When you have the time could you please complete the linked survey, the data gathered from this survey will be used in conjunction with list analysis and tournament data to for the upcoming points adjustments update. This is an internal balance survey, what this means is when completing the survey any considerations regarding ext…

  • Glad to see another Forest Walker join our ranks! Welcome to the 9th Age Quote from FilloSov: “Good Morning everyone! I'm an old WFB player, but recently I decided to start again the marvellous hobby of mini painting and wargaming and so I found the 9th Age. I'm planning to start the game with a few friend of mine, one of which already ordered his first DH army while another is starting to repaint his old HE army. We have also together a good amount of goblins (thanks to battle for skull pass!) …

  • Instead of moving Forest Guard to Special and Forest Rangers to Core perhaps we could consider the possibility of Forest Guard gaining a great weapon option and Forest Rangers gaining a spear option? The unit stats would probably need to be adjusted a bit to create a difference in the role between units, but the result would add more options to the army while expanding upon the established fluff without replacing it. Despite absolutely loving my stubborn Eternal Guard back in legacy I personally…

  • Personally I would like to see an Augment spell, then it could be swapped out with the Lammasu's Witchcraft spell to avoid the janky interaction with Magical Resistance. I think the spell definitely needs to do something with fire, help the unit grind, and maybe do damage in an indirect way. I like it when Hereditary Spells interact with an army's core rules and ID have loads to pick from, so with all of that criteria how about this: Infernal Infusion: (Hidden Content) Interacting with Incendiar…

  • Quote from Giladis: “@Serwyn I would say DH, KoE and OK. That way you have SA and HE as S tier magic armies, VC and UD as A tier due to natures of the army. VS, DE and DL as B tier with special focuses of expertise. Everyone else C tier, KoE and OK D, and DH E tier. ” While I am not the biggest fan of tier lists for a variety of reasons, based on the existing books I would personally place SE along with KoE & OK in a tier. Being placed in the same tier as armies such as EoS & ID seems off to me.…
