Besides the 9th age I've been playing a lot of RPGs and board games. I understand that some players might take too seriously a game that is about warfare and beating your opponent. But even in more casual non-war games people tend to be competitive too. I remember playing the Overlord in Descent, and one of the players was consistently trying to cheat. And I've seen players getting mad or cheating even in cooperative games...
