  • Quote from Whip: “Both non-core dwarf units (Immortals and DoL) lose to everyone else's special/elite units. With M3/9 it's not like we're doing massive counter-charges to grind out tougher enemies. These units get engaged and just lose over and over until steadfast is broken and they fail a break check. Enforcers are good as a support unit or a medium threat but they have the same issues as cav. Incarnates are meh. They're good for killing enemy core units but not much else. Of course if they'r…

  • (Primarily asking for my own understanding; anyone please feel free to answer the questions; I will pick and choose my responses depending on which I think I understand) Ok... maybe I can ask some questions to get a feel more precisely for what some of the claimed issues are... Is the problem that the average ID unit (averaged over a list) doesn't do enough damage? That not enough ID units (in a list) hit some peak damage eliteness threshold? That there are not enough damaging ID units on the ta…

  • @jirga It went through quite a popular phase around that time I think? A bunch of people other than me picked it up and liked it. I dno what the usage of it is like these days, as I haven't been following it specifically. For me I think the model is "worth its points"; the only question for me is whether I can get in the other characters I want into the list alongside it. E.g. I'd almost certainly run it at 5000pts, but at 4500pts these days I quite often look at sorcerer on dias instead.

  • @Harmonize I am afraid that is not correct. Here is the simplest way to see why this logic is incorrect: What is the probability of getting a "1" on 7 dice? Following this logic the answers is 1/6 + 1/6 + 1/6 + 1/6 + 1/6 + 1/6 +1/6=7/6. But probabilities by definition cannot be greater than 1. Something cannot be more than certain Probabilities are not intuitive things for the human brain, because the global conditions (e.g. can't be greater than 1, set of all outcomes must sum to exactly 1, etc…

  • (not commenting in staff role; I haven't been part of these discussions internally for quite some time) Quote from Ursa06: “Question - can we expect in some future new editions of the book? So let's say all the books get the gold treatment, will there be newer updates after that outside of just point balancing? Redesigns and changes to shake things up? ” Honestly, at this point in time, I think there are no plans. This is simply too far ahead right now. I am sure that RT will be interested in a …

  • Quote from Kriegschmidt: “@Dahou You make a good point there. I think the odds of rolling a 1 with three dice are 50% though, which for me is good enough. (Perhaps someone could correct my maths if I'm wrong please) ” The average number of 1s if you roll 3 dice lots of times is 0.5. But I think that is may be the wrong question here. The right question may be "what are the chances I roll at least one "1"?" The chance of no "1"s is 5/6*5/6*5/6=0.58 So the chance of rolling at least one "1" is 1-0…

DanT - - Infernal Dwarves (ID)

    Post

Quote from Peacemaker: “....I got those little flame guys from GW's Tzeetch daemons. I'm putting them in my Infernal dwarf army most as flavor on bases - little helpers. I'm tempted to make some Kadim Shield Bearers now for my lord. lol (whenever that Lord arrives in the mail from Spain....). I believe DanT uses these little dudes in his Infernal Dwarf army as well. ” Mine are from puppet wars puppetswar.eu/catalogsearch/result/?q=elemental

DanT - - New army books

    Post

I like the direction and vision of this a lot Good job @Idum If I'm being more picky, I think some of the detailed mechanical implementations and concepts would be more powerful than you imagine, and the resultant pricing would exacerbate some of the skill curve issues. One of the key things that makes for a good LAB is trying to build a coherent army whose "big picture" is similar for different skill levels. I think this is something WotDG and DL do well, and is part of their success. But those…

  • (not commenting in staff role) Quote from IntrigueAtCourt: “Changing the subject slightly, what's likely to be lost? The 1+ save cav bus I guess? ” The EoS LAB guidelines are not written yet to my knowledge. But losing this would be inconsistent with previous discussions about EoS and how they fit in amongst the factions. Also, EoS 1.3&2.0 did a better job of removing redundant and problematic units than many of the other books, so I suspect any "losses" from here will be more mechanical details…

  • @arwaker I wouldn't mind replacing spears with pikes in EoS... if spears weren't a thing in the other 15 factions. It just gets too messy, and the arguments get too stupid and ultimately self serving. Pike models work fine using the current spear rules and EoS synergies... just make sure they are a good choice in the LAB. Job done. @IntrigueAtCourt I think "should EOS get pikes" and "what new unit unit should EoS get if getting one" are two very different discussions. In fact, if the question is…

  • (not commenting in staff role) I hope not personally. I don't think it is necessary or sufficient for making an interesting, characterful or differentiated EoS book, and is largely just option creep and eliteness creep for the sake of it. I'd rather see pikes separately developed properly in an auxiliary book, or possibly the mercenary type army when we get there.

Congrats on the nice contribution to the latest issue of the scroll

  • @Altor von Drak A couple of other things to consider if it is an accommodating crowd you are playing with: (A) Either get a 3rd person to help you during the game, or ask your opponent to give you some advice during the game (more like a teaching game). This is usually more helpful than getting a deluge of advice at the end of the game because it means you can see some of the important points during the game, and also because it means that an important early mistake can be avoided, allowing you …

  • @Altor von Drak This link has an attempt to write some "ground up" tacticas, and has links to some other articles etc. No 'tactics for beginners' thread? I also have a list repository Dr Dan's dangerously different deceptive detachments I haven't updated any of that for the very latest points update. But if you click on some of the old links it might give you some different ideas at least. Something you should know: T9a is intentionally more skill intensive than legacy, for both list-building an…

  • Lots of anointed... apparently they are needed to herd all the haggis.

  • (Not commenting in staff role. Also note that I am talking in generalities: none of my comments should be taken as saying that any prices in the ID book are correct or incorrect. Maybe they are currently all right or all wrong. Either way, the general comments I make below hold). Show me an army forum that agrees with the prices in its book and I will show you an overperforming book This is one of the truest statements about the forum, that has been borne out time and time again. DE iteration is…

DanT - - Scenarios and Game variants

    Post

Not to take anything away from the wonderful work of @Shlagrabak here... but for anyone interested in alternative flux cards, the project did eventually finish its own supplement for flux cards. It is available from the download page: the-ninth-age.com/community/fi…7570088ca6292ee8399e21570 As I say though, not trying to take anything away from the cool flux cards in this thread; @Shlagrabak 's work is very nice and encourage everyone to try them

  • Quote from Anen: “Thanks for the clarification @DanT! Do you have any idea where to find tournament stats which shows the alleged over-preformance of ID armies? I find the term "over-preforming" to be too subjective and would like to see some hard data on where and if ID are being problematic in a more grand context against other armies (especially other LABs). ” Sorry, I don't follow those parts internally these days. Nor do I know exactly what tournaments/numbers of tournaments were available.…

  • @Anen Just so you are fully aware of the situation: at this point in the beta process, design and points are "sort of" adjusted independently. A team is currently working on design changes to the book, but it has taken longer than hoped, so the people in charge of adjusting points have made these adjustments as a sort of "interim" measure whilst the design update is finalised and reviewed. They have done so based on the best data they could gather. The key point is that this points update is not…

  • (short on time, but I can answer bits of this quickly) (note, these are just my personal views, not "project answers", and I haven't been on the teams doing pricing for some time) (have you read the guidelines? They have been public for nearly 2 years. Some of your answers might be there) Quote from darth mael: “ For you what should be the difference between the infernal warrior, citadel guard and immortal? Conscript, seasoned mercenary, elite. All in the context of ID society and dwarven physio…
