(not commenting in staff role) Personally, I think the combination of model agnostic, no specified model range and the faction directions of t9a make it much more of a game where players should use models they think are kool in combination with whichever book they enjoy using. There is a big difference to legacy in that I think generally, legacy mechanical faction differentiation/identity was actually relatively poor, particularly on a competitive list level (e.g. O&G gunlines, all EoS lists eve…

  • @spicybarbecue Both Of course it depends on the rest of the list and which weapon you want, so I think the best advice is try some things out and see what suits you. My personal preference currently is for rocket shooty titan, and mortar infernal engine, because I think these are the best value at current points, and they suit my lists. (I'm personally not a big fan of flamethrowers, they've just never delivered for me.) But that is just my personal preference and you should take it no more seri…

(not commenting in staff role) @rolan Please reduce the aggression towards the staff. Whatever inconsistency you think you may have found, is not necessarily the result of bad faith actions, malice, or lies on behalf of the staff members. I am sure @Giladis will do his best to address any misunderstandings when he gets chance. As a scientist, I regularly see members of the public point to holes in popular science accounts, and believe they are actual holes in the science (which of course they ar…

  • Quote from tiny: “I generally agree. But we can global support local efforts. For instance provide a „how to build a local game scene“-guide based on the experience of other community members, who have done the effort in their respective local scenes. ” Sure, absolutely My whole series of "tactics for beginners" and scroll articles was designed as such a resource, that people can point new players to, that actually tries to start to develop some tactics and strategy from relatively basic pieces …

  • (still just my view as a member of the community) Quote from HighBornAaron: “I do semi agree but the admin team of T9A also must share some obligation to help grow the community and game no? ” I think mostly not. For many reasons, like the many other things that staff/the project are worrying about doing, but most importantly because I think local, not global, solutions are needed. And the project cannot deliver the local solutions that everyone needs. The project is doing promotion and PR stuff…

  • (not commenting in staff role; just my view as a member of the community) This thread having opposing strong opinions about what the project should do is peak t9a T9a will live or die by how its players spread it, take it to others, and keep it alive. That matters more than anything the project does. You want opponents? Make them and find them. You want more visibility? Make it happen. If you introduce people, put effort into them having a good time, and build some local momentum, it will pay di…

(not commenting in staff role) General comment: There is no point browbeating members of the LAB team about faction weaknesses. Those are decided by RT. See the faction guidelines: the project has followed a clear pattern from ID-KoE so far, with guidelines being released and public feedback sought, before design work is started. Those contain the faction "weaknesses and strengths" (although I put them in quotes because I think those names can be misleading), and any answer from a LAB team membe…

Quote from Peacemaker: “It's just what I gleamed guessed from reading comments from staff about the project. ” I am afraid I disagree with you use of the word "glean" here. Glean implies actual information/truth has been gained. You have guessed no actual truth about the process Sorry to be a bit harsh. The problem is that community members see anyone with a tag saying things like this... the next thing you know in two months time it will be quoted in a post as an "official" description of the p…

(not commenting in staff role) @Stygian I think peacemaker is adding 2 and 2 and getting 12 The new LAB process has been covered in several news posts and threads over the last few years. Nothing in the quote from peacemaker is really the process that the project follows. E.g. Staff do move around at various points, but this is rarely by design or part of a long term plan, but typically due to the activity level of different staff and whether their expertise is needed elsewhere. Off the top of m…

(Not commenting in staff role) I wondered if I might ask a question of some of those giving feedback? I have seen quite a few comments that people started DE because they were the "fast elves" (or some comment along broadly similar lines). Personally, I have always seen SE as the fast elves (and skirmishy elves), but of course these things are naturally somewhat subjective. So I wondered how the people who see DE as "the fast elves" see the differentiation between DE and SE? Why didn't you pick …

(still not commenting in staff role) Quote from Memnite: “If we just deleted DE from the game i dont think the system as a whole would lose any playstyle, HBE/SE can do a "high Agi combat elves" build aswell. Even "elves with monsters" HBE/SE can do with trees or birdies. ” There were discussions in the project much earlier about whether 16 distinct armies/factions were sustainable. The chosen route was to keep all 16 and do its best to make them unique and interesting. I guess once all the LABs…

(not commenting in staff role) Quote from Memnite: “Isnt this a blocked due to us being "last" in the finishing process? We got a pretty heavy all enclosing rework, and everyone else aleready has locked what is "theirs", so there is little space left for DE to get something that is "theirs" ” I think this isn't really correct. Guidelines have not been seen yet for HBE, SE, EOS, DH, OK, O&G, BH, VC, UD and SA (although given the recent announcement, the smart money says SA will be the next public…

Quote from Firthunands91: “I can just agree with @Fnarrr, @DanT. ” I can only repeat the data: EoS and DH have been in the same tier (or EOS possibly lower in one case) since 2016. This last update may have changed that. In which case the project will adjust once the results of this adjustment have been evaluated. But up to this point, the data are that DH are not singled out. (And claims that someone is singled out occur basically every update, and the majority of them aren't borne out by subse…

Random aside that might be useful to people: The colour of the tags is related to forum administration/access, and is largely decoupled from staff role. Most red-tags have nothing to do with this sort of issue; there are orange tags who are far more directly involved with design etc than some red tags, and therefore many red tags have essentially zero power on this sort of issue. I've chatted a bit to @Fnarrr separately, and I think the nub of the matter is this: Different armies react different…

Quote from Fnarrr: “What is different in the DH situation compared to other armies is that they are constantly in that below-average tier, every year. ” So are EoS. EoS have been the same tier as DH or lower in every tier list since 2016. (And I believe SE too, at least for all of 2.0, although I haven't had chance to double check). That is why I say that DH have been treated the same. The problem is that the DH skill curve is much flatter than EoS. So if the armies are equal in external balance…

(still not commenting in staff role) Quote from Redbeard: “Edit: thanks @DanT for the explanaiton, even then it seems tough when those "boss" people denie certain styles for a army and nothing else is provided, i dont know internal communication so cant judge that. ” Sure. I get this. The yearly points updates are mostly (read the news posts each year for nuances) not about solving the design problems in the books, that is what the LABs are for. In terms of the LABs, SA have just been announced,…

Quote from Firthunands91: “But @DanT, DH was in the 2nd worst tier in 2019, just because HbE had the lowest just for themselves, and this year they were one of the 3 ranked as worst. This is the information that was shared internally. These statements are entirely consistent with my post. They are not internally secret either: the tiers have been in the news posts for the last 3 years. Indeed, it was me that constructed the 2018 tiers. The key point that I think you are missing is that "lowest t…

@Cam I mean, using data that comes from after the tier list was created can't really be used to dispute the tier construction Those tournaments will of course be used for the next set of tiers that are constructed in 9 (or whatever) months time. That said, let me take your post in its most general sense, as that seems the fairest thing to do: you are saying that there are some metrics and subsets of the data that give the DH forum the impression they have. No problem. I agree with this statement…

(not commenting in staff role) Quote from Redbeard: “I find it odd that you would task people to design an army and then reject the idea as someone who wasnt part of the design process... ” There is a slight misunderstanding here I think. Effectively, RT are the "chief designers" of t9a. They set the global direction, the core rules, army book directions, and have final say on everything mechanical. There is an RT rep on every LAB team now (there also was supposed to be an RT rep on every team d…
