  • Great idea for a tournament with a difference. Does banning a path of magic also stop people taking protean magic, and any items that cast bound spells from that path?

    I finished on 53 points thanks to a bit of a submarine. Game 1 I lost 20-0 vs vermin swarm. It was a bad match up against a much better player and I was outplayed. Game 2 I won 20-0 against makhar. He mis-deployed and then made a few positional mistakes which quickly caused his army to collapse. Game 3 I won 13-7 vs sylvan elves. I probably should have won 15-5 as I was well up after T4 but gave him the chance to get my militants unnecessarily at the end. Game 4 I lost 20-0 vs WotDG. I should ha…

    I don’t think you need anvil units to make a counter charge unit viable. Unless you are literally just rushing a gun line there is usually a bit of ebb and flow to a game which can benefit from having something like the thunder pack. And having something protecting the flanks of those infantry blocks is useful.

    I know that irresistible will has generated some discussion here so just sharing my experience from a game last night and why I like the rule. Had one phase where I was low on dice so tried to split them and cast a couple of 2 dice spells. Both just failed. Then my last phase I needed to take one wound off his BSB with touch of the heart with a 6 vs 5 phase. Without IW I would have done this on 5 dice and had to risk the miscast but with IW I was happy to try on 4 dice against his 5 and reduce t…

  • Some feedback on the hereditary. I’ve played about 10 games with the new book now and cast the hereditary for the first time in my last game. I have taken it a few times before but never cast it as I generally wanted to buff the blades of Darag or do damage. I cast it on a master pyro mage and as a result of the spell he chose to focus his dice on casting with his adept instead. It therefore did reduce the damage I suffered from magic so had some use but I must admit it is not worth taking in mo…

    I really like the outcast. The fact that your opponent is -3 to dispel (inc the master bonus) can be huge and makes it much harder to dispel more than one spell. I also don’t mind that he cannot be the general. I would like to see in more army books going forward. It doesn’t feel right for most armies that their wizard is the general.

    I lost my first round game to Trent’s vermin swarm 20-0. This is my first tournament with DE so am still figuring them out and the vermin list was a really hard match up with disciples, meat grinders, pendulum and plenty of shooting. I had a really bad turn 1 and never really recovered. Hoping to improve in round 2 but it’s not been a great showing so far for the DE (apart from @Zambro)

    What about instead of getting more shots at short range crossbows get a better chance of hitting (more than the normal short range benefit). So it is always 2 shots S3 AP0 but hit on a 2+ at short range and 4+ at long. I think if my maths works you would end up with a number of hits somewhere between the current rules and the previous beta rules.

    Is the thunder pack price correct in the document? The change log says they should be 285 but the army list says 290?

  • You are only going to roll 3 dice on the 1 flux realistically. The biggest risk is when you 4 dice wrath of god in any phase as any triple 6 is insta-death but it will be pretty rare.

  • Really enjoying getting the chance to spectate on the masters this year. I’ve always struggled against ambushing beast herds so was fascinating to see how a beasts player deployed against his own army. I learnt a lot from this game. Do we know when the other army swap games are yet?

    I really wouldn’t recommend using 5 dice on anything in Thaumaturgy. The risk of miscast is really high.
