You know, I’ve been checking out some of the playtesting reports and looking through results from some of the recent tournaments, and I’m starting to question how RPS this book actually is? There doesn’t seem to be much evidence that it crushes CC lists and gets smashed by heavy shooting, at least not publicly and at the level of people who are either dedicated PTs or playing in tournaments. So for those saying it’s too RPS and needs toning down, could you share some examples or battle reports t…

Quote from Nemeroth: “Quote from maemon: “Quote from Giladis: “Elf is no more "attuned" to magic than a human, skink or orc. ” so we remove the Master of Spellcrafting from the HE ? ” No because it’s a learned technique over the centuries of life available to the elves which makes it possible. ” Wait... so one race’s ‘centuries of elven life’ allows them to become more magically attuned than almost all other spellcasters worldwide, yet an almost identical race’s ‘centuries of elven life’ makes t…

Quote from arwaker: “What you mean by deficit? Maybe I just don't get the point. Is the BSB option for the Temple Legate so bad that you will never take it? Or is the BSB option for the Legion Legate so bad that you will never take it? Please give me a hint because I really don't understand the issue. The argument of having to give up something to get something else is in my opinion not valid in itself. It will become an issue, when either of the options is very unattractive, but so far I could …

Quote from BondageGoatZombie: “Quote from Il Maestro: “As for theme, I really don’t get it unfortunately. So far, who else has access to WM generals? Daemons - fine WoDG - debatable, but lack of shooting means I’ll err on the side of agreeing ID - what, the construct-making, gun-slinging dwarves? Ok, guess everyone gets it, right? So, my question is that if the most magically un-attuned race (dwarves) who already spend their time excelling at engineering and other inherently non-magical roles ha…

Quote from Giladis: “Now that it has been revealed DE are not going to be the only book without a Wizard Master general has your (plural) opion on the Warlock Outcast shifted in any way? ” Personally, not really - I don’t judge my happiness based on a similar lack of happiness in others. Having said that, there are two broad camps of arguments against the WO being NoL - the power level, and the theme. Power wise there are arguments that you could theoretically cost it low enough to overcome the …

Quote from arwaker: “Maybe they are spoiled by previous Temple Legate. Maybe they forget that other armies have even less attractive BSBs. Maybe they do not recognize that DE are among the armies that have the least urgent need for a BSB at all. ” DL: harbinger, can be BSB and adept, can be mounted, and has 150 points for manifestations (same as other non-general characters), and will be in army with WM general WoDG: difficult to directly compare, so feel free to make any comparisons you see fit…

Quote from arwaker: “I have the feeling that this is a rather common issue. People fall into some kind of psychological trap of interpreting some rules as punishment for their game, while they are in fact rather neutral. Whether something is an advantage or disadvantage depends on the standpoint. Rules are worded and structured to be as simple as possible. Unfortunately the consequence is that some people interpret them as "bad" or unnecessarily restrictive. If the rule and stats would be formul…

Quote from Slayer Zabojcow: “I think people have to accept that DE hereditary can't be too good because it can be cast into cc and against ranged units alike. The only thing that should be done in my opinion is split into 2 casting values - lower one against ranged attacks and higher against melee. ” Yes and no - it can be made to only have an effect on ranged units/attacks and therefore can be more finely tuned. But if it remains affecting both close combat and ranged, then I think you’re right…

  • Quote from Zwei: “That we can snipe chars/champions on top of that - never forget our irresistible will rule - is extremly strong and denying that is nothing more then power creep. ” It’s supposed to be strong - that’s the design of Irresistible Will. I mean, the actual power difference of IW has been discussed and explained to death, but it boils down to fewer spells, harder to cast, much harder to dispel. So my question is this: when evaluating whether Evocation is too powerful or not, is the …

Quote from msu117: “Quote from Nemeroth: “Quote from msu117: “Throwing this question out. Would the Rome burn if the altar was merely a buff wagon stand alone unit with 1 maybe 2 option paths but removal of warplatform? Potential then for zero death star issue with an altar build. Something to chew on and consider. Thoughts? @DarkSky ” Is that in addition to the Effigy of Dread?I must say a straight up buff/hex wagon Crucible of slaughter might be perceived as a bit less problematic than the cur…

  • Quote from berti: “He is an outcast and not trusted because he doesnt hesitate to sacrifice elfes for power.... Not with evocation instead of occu anymore... ” If he's not trusted that much, why would he be a part of any Dathen Republic army...? Why would anyone risk being the next sacrifice and not just stabby-stabby him in the back when he's not looking? And who would fight for a leader willing to allow the sacrifice of his own troops just to appease the ravings of a social outcast? I think th…

Quote from berti: “IT IS -3 to dispell. Even when the rule says only -2, because the warlock still gets +1 on his roll (just the spell is also 1 harder to cast). So oponent needs to roll 3 more than warlock to dispell. And it doesn´t only target single models, it can snipe charakters out of units. So please don´t justify it with single models. Everybody can kill single models with ranged things. It is the sniping of charakters hidden units that makes it super strong. ” Isn’t the point supposed t…

  • Quote from arwaker: “Considering the repeatedly coming claims that DE suck vs gunlines, why not make the hereditary spell affecting opponent shooting only? That way the spell could be tailored for this specific task and get a casting value that is appropriate. Okay, against melee opponents the spell will be useless then, but you don't have to take it. The mechanics could stay somehow similar, but with stronger effect. Something like that: Curse of the Phantom Queen For each HP loss the hexed uni…

  • We should make a new AWSR. ——————————— Words of Power If at the end of any of your turns you utter the phrase ‘that is all’ before the opponent starts their turn, you may immediately add Hard Target (1) to every infantry unit in your army. However, if the above phrase is immediately countered by ‘against the guidelines’ by your opponent, remove the Hard Target (1) rule and both take a drink. ———————————

Quote from AlWeeks: “But refusing to consider ANY flex (or further flex if you will) in the guidlines as a potential solution to the issues that are being raised in your Alpha play test is just to put it bluntly, silly. I get that it wouldn't be the teams first point of call to attempt to find a solution to the apparent issues, but to rule out completely a few minor flexes of the guidlines (which is all these suggestions are) is just daft. That's not the mindset that is going to result in the be…

*speaking with staff game designer hat on, but it’s a propeller hat so not sure how much you should listen to anything I say* I think what @echoCTRL said is really important. There are guidelines for this army, and for every army, and once an area has been explored and shut down, it’s really a no-go. And that’s not necessarily meant in a negative way, it’s just the reality of trying to create a product with a distinct identity and allowing wiggle room where it exists, but stopping it where it do…

  • Quote from Zyv: “Quote: “Allows appropriate counterplay, as an opponent can choose not to shoot and thus take no damage, making it a wasted spell with regards to pure death count, but thus achieving its potentially primal goal of ranged protection without being against guidelines ” that is exactly what it does right now. Does it do it in a meaningful way? I mean, yes one can choose not to shoot, but ultimately the risk/reward is arguably still in favour of the shooting unit. The issue is that th…

  • I think as @Ehakir pointed out, the primary issue with the spell is that it is not actually impactful enough to warrant its conditional use. In almost all situations, one would be better off using a direct damage spell and removing bodies before they have the chance to kill your own, and with likely more efficiency too. It's a fine line to walk, trying to create a spell that offers ranged protection by damaging the opponent, because there are too many scenarios where the direct damage is just fa…

Quote from Peacemaker: “Heavy armour, 4+ aegis, distracting, Adept, and BSB. ....it's pretty obvious why this is Auto-include. ” Compared to: - Killy dread prince w. no BSB option and limited mounts - Beastmaster with special rules that somewhat force heavy beast investment to get benefit - WM that can’t be general with minimal access to take advantage of large mounts - Legion legate with minimal to offer comparatively other than Dis 10 - Assassin It’s not just that the TL has good features that…

  • Not sure if these were mentioned before, but here are a few ideas that can be worked on or discarded for the Mist Leviathan : - All units targeted by ranged attacks within X” are treated as being at long range - The Arrow catch (Name of the Wind): All ranged attacks targeting a unit within X” are instead resolved against the Mist Leviathan - Deadlier Riposte: All ranged attacks targeting units within X” that roll a natural 1 are resolved as a hit against the unit making the attack - All successf…
