Quote from Glonojad: “Guys, where could I get a base for a Leviathan? ” Buy some fruits or vegetables (currently I'd suggest strawberries) which are sold in a wooden tray/box. Use a hobby saw and cut out the size you want: voila, wooden base and something nice and healthy to eat. Win/win situation

  • My feedback purely on errors, typos, etc: - Beta 4? Document says Beta 3 - Kadim Titan has Searing Heat removed from Attack Attributes on Offensive profile. But rules still mention it. What is the desired rule? - Overview table. Blunderbuss still mentions the "half the hits" rule

Quote from rolan: “get to have the great honor of carrying the banner ” Sure, "great honour". Sounds more like being singled out as the idiot who has to carry it

  • Quote from theunwantedbeing: “This in itself is negligible since we aren't making much use of the full spread of base stats in the game normally. ” And why do you think that is? IMO the D6, because every "step" creates a full 1/6 higher or lower probability and spreading the values too far is impossible unless you make soft stats (Off/Def) where differences up to 3 may have zero effect. Or you have "hard stats" like Str/Res and therefore need to keep them close together (every unit type basicall…

  • Quote from Ondjage: “6’es are fast to roll, easy to add up and easily avaliable for cheap. ” As are D8, D10, D12, D20… or do you want to tell me you can roll 20 D6 "faster"? Quote from Ondjage: “Usually the number of die you roll are enough to even out the worst spikes ” That's just plain wrong. Look at every Cannon or Bolt Thrower. Look at every panic test. You already mentioned Aegis throws on top of that. Quote from Ondjage: “Leadership rolls already have a mechanic to make it more varied tha…

Quote from Memnite: “We are the monster elves right? ” Well, we are the Beast Master Elves. There is a small, but important difference between Dragons and the other menagerie monsters. Dragons cooperating, other menagiere monsters are dominated. So, yes, DE are masters of dominate and tame monsters, but they aren't (necessarily) better at cooperating with Dragons than other Elves (except for the Meeting of the Minds rule). Additionally the Highborn seem to have the "Flying Circus" playstyle asso…

DarkSky's Daily Dose of Dread 1. I cleaned up this thread and moved all "unit by unit comparison" posts into the other newly created thread. Please post those unit by unit comparisons there. They are as of now offtopic in this thread, unless they target a specific property of DE or are used to discuss avenues for design, balancing and other things relevant. 2. @Phaeoron Your idea will never pan out with the current background and the guidelines. DE will not under any circumstances bring their sl…

  • This thread to discuss unit by unit comparisons.

  • Quote from Slayer Zabojcow: “less expensive than HBE archers and it wins an uphill battle ” And what is the point of this whole discussion? How often will players just let you walk up with CC units towards a ranged "poke" unit, that has the benefit of being able to hide behind their own troops and still shoot with volley fire? Conceptually the HE Archers, is a unit with rules to a) stay far away from the action b) generate some pull to lure opponents into bad board positions c) generate some (li…

Quote from Stevone13: “And back to obsidian... friendly units within 6”... so obsidian can benefit because is considered also as friendly unit? ” Units are either "friendly units" or "enemy units". So if you are controlling the Obsidian Guard, the Guard itself is "friendly" (it certainly isn't "enemy", is it?). Do not look at it from the unit's view ("I am Obsidian Guard, all other Dread Elves are friendlies, the others are enemies, and I am well "me"), look at it from the general's view: "DE un…

Hey guys, I did have a small break over easter from this thread, knowing with Alpha 3 there will be a lot of discussion. If you haven't read it and complain about lack of communication from TT, I want to point you to the →→ official team comments. ←← If you read those, but have conrete follow up questions, please adress them here. I will try to setup a Q&A with TT to get your questions answered. Quote from Ehakir: “All I hope for is a more successful development process for the future: if the LA…

  • Have their been any discussions to make options always ordered alphabetically instead of by costs? This would create more stability in the ordering and also make similar lists always appear in the same order (e.g. for mundane weapons)

  • Holy crap those bases! The time was certainly well spent. Awesome job both of you @Boomvalk and @da_griech

Quote from Memnite: “Is the AP 1 on Altar Attendants intended? Militants are AP 0 and the one one on the Altar are AP 1 for some reason. ” The answer is "yes", you will notice the crew on Altar is not labelled as "Militants" but as "Attendants". The attendant also has more than one attack. I seem to remember those are "in between" a Temple Legate and a Temple Militant (e.g. like a Daecon(ess))

  • @lupinemaverick Thank you for the bug report. I added the first issue to my bug tracker. Issues 2 & 3 should be working okay, if you select the correct force type (when creating your Highborn Army select "Queen's Cavalier on Large/Gigantic Mount" instead of "Highborn Elves"). Then all restrictions and changes you expect should be there.

  • Quote from Peacemaker: “Terror means potential panic checks, so a small bonus and a consolation prize for long bomb charges. ” Generally I like the idea, in the current iteration of T9A however? Which opponent will actually be affected by this? We have five armies who will ignore this rule (UD, VC, DL, WDG, OK). Other armies that can be affected (DH or EoS) usually play towards a strong bubble.

Quote from berti: “Like...banner of xxx....one use only. May be activated at the start of normal movement (so not working on charge). When activated this banner increases advance rate by +1 and march rate by +2". Infantry only. One use only. Not working on charge, but helping to close the gap. ” This is interesting, because it contradicts from what I heard from many other players. I do agree your proposal is better for MSU/MMU play, if the banner is cheap enough (basically poor man's Relentless)…

@berti I think I remember you saying* that "Swiftstride" is thematically a bad design for infantry units, as Swiftstride is the thing that differentiates people on foot to faster beasts (more or less). Would you (and others of course) say replacing Swiftstride with "Reroll failed charges" is a better thematical fit? (Basically Reroll is much better at preventing bad rolls than achieving high rolls) * Sorry, if you didn't

There has been a thread to gather ideas for Divine Altar redesign way back. My idea for that was to make the Altar a "charge this enemy" piece. Every unit gets a bonus to charge a target that is charged by the Altar as well. I guess this is already somewhat covered in Academy Training and Scent of Blood, so I need to put my creative thinking hat back on. Hey, since Mist Leviathan didn't get arrow magnet, the altar can, right? RIGHT? Special Rule: DEPRAVED OBSCENE IDOL (for you hobbyists out ther…

@Memnite the professional courtesy rule extended to Temple Legates was introduced just to limit that potential. Before I pass judgement whether it is enough I'd like to see those Death star / Crucible lists actually beat opponents. The idea of removing war platform and introducing a second more synergy focused altar form has its merits though. I could immediately think of a few nasty rules
