Aside from niche use like that, yeah it's a meme option to keep the Settra chariot as it is available. One of the things I'd like to see in the LAB is to make it an actual option, though.

Quote from Kal: “Interesting about the sphinxes, if anything i would have guessed it was the new DE rule that makes them much weaker imo. I love them and always run 2-3, depending if i want a colossus. But they do get focused on and a str 3 bow shot ticks off a wound on 6's just like a str 6 ogre. An extra wound, better armour vs ranged or some magic resistance would be nice. They are made of stone afterall, and its living in the stone mountains that give dwarves their innate MR from what i unde…

Quote from IHDarklord: “It also has to be said that UD is clearly the top preformer of the tourney! Not what I had expected beforehand though. ” Hm? How so? From what I see, the top 3 UD are 3, 17 and 19. VS would be the top performer with placements of 1, 10 and 11.

Quote from Kal: “Just curious, why were the sphinxes such let downs? ” Constant deaths or losses of function in situations where it shouldn't happen. Especially in Terracotta, where a lot of things wound Sphinxes just as easily as they would wound NG, people often target the Sphinxes. And while you'd need 28 6's to kill the NG, the Sphinxes only need 5. And this does happen. Although not exactly the best example of it, my final match was a decent example - Spell-slinging DL took both Sphinxes ou…

Well, that's the tourney done on my part. Catapults finally pulled a karmic revenge on me by failing to do a single wound in the entirety of the final game. Well, the other one DID stop working on turn 1 so that could have something to do with it. Damn Sphinxes, I will never forgive them. Great gatekeepers, not so good on the battlefield. Probably because nobody can hear their riddles over the carnage. The title of King in the Desert goes to Alberto of Guardia Varega, with me a distant second at…

If there's no better target, yes. If I'm sitting and waiting for the opponent to move, it's a good way to remind them to hurry up. But most of the time, I'm pushing one of my units forward and need to layer buffs on them. Rarely use Stars Align on them, literally only if I have no better spells to play, which DOES happen sometimes. There's too many failure states for the spell to be a worthwhile cast otherwise - There's four possibilities, you misfire and thus get no re-roll, you hit without the…

Catapults are pretty good if you get consistently paired against opponents allergic to them, that's 3/4 games thus far against OnG and I gotta say, it feels nice to blast big holes into their huge units. Tellingly, the one match I played against Ogres, was a loss.

  • Oh, quite a bit of room for multiple different lists there! Right off the bat, I can see you've got the essential parts for playing every UD army type, standard, Barrow Legions and Terracotta so that already opens up a lot of possibilities. For a starting player looking to get a feel of the army, you've got everything you need - A big block of Chariots, another big block of Necropolis Guard, and multiple monsters to roam around the map. The Shabti could use 2 more models for a big unit, but an u…

  • Quote from Aleph Null: “In connection with the above, leave the skeleton statline alone. They're feckin' skeletons. I admit I have not kept up on T9A lore (which ones are Romans now, VS or DE? Both?), but it seems to me that a largely mindless force entirely subservient to the will of their lords is one of the handful of things that SHOULD be shared between both flavours of undead, and if anything should be an even stronger element for the one that's based primarily on a historical empire famous…

  • Combining units into a multipurpose kit is, while not an exercise in futility, very nearly so. I'm still amazed DL could pull it off, but then - They had their entire background literally built ground-up to support this idea. Daemons have no set homeland. Not even a set dimension. Daemons just are, and they don't really even exist until a more powerful being comes along and literally molds them into a form it's more comfortable with. They're eldritch play-doh. Now when you remove this absolute f…

  • If you're trying to make a point, I wouldn't try to make it with THE most boring book of all Warhammer Fantasy, that was later split into the two BEST warhammer fantasy books. Unless you're trying to make my point for me, which is that these identities are much better when kept separate.

  • Sharing a book with the vampires, I cannot think of anything more disgusting. Such a waste of potential that would be.

When will I learn not to play Sphinxes? Every year, it looks like I pick them up once thinking that they can't fail me THIS time, which they then proceed to do and I decide to never touch them again. So I guess I'll be complaining about the same thing next winter.

  • The rule is fine, the price attached to it however, is not. I get the feeling that 'Not a Leader' gives the model quite the discount, and I suppose I can understand why, it means the mage MUST come with the attached cost of another character, one cannot just play Mage General+BSB to save points. However, the DE characters are so damn good at what they do that not taking at least one of them is actively shooting yourself in the foot to begin with, making the discount pointless.

  • No giants for Barrow Legions?

I worked on the Giant aux, getting Giants to Barrow Legions was one of my personal goals, I also suggested that instead of 3 giant options for UD, each faction in the book would have one of the upgrades. In the end, we decided to not start the wording hell due to Terracotta then also needing the Resilience upgrade and all the wording troubles that would bring with it. If something is figured out in the next update for the Giant aux, I'll bring it up again, and if not we'll just have to wait for …

  • Quote from RHworldbuilding: “Okay, I think the UD want to charge the Electoral Cav with the Shabtis, and then move the Chariots and Skeleton Archers up a few inches (chariots-setup easy charge on the IG, Archers-get into position to move and score later). BUT, I'll be back in a few hours to see if anyone has any other ideas. In the meantime, @piteglio, can I get a ruling on how far the Archers have to move to get into the scoring zone? That might alter the movement phase a little. ” That seems l…

  • Just keep that Hierarch out of the range of being blasted by fire and we're good to go. Which also essentially means that Judgement can't be used this round, I suppose? Because being in 18" of an enemy also means being in 18" of Salvo. And given how careful your other movements are, Danse is also fairly useless - Chariots didn't move so can't get much out of magical moving them, Shabti probably want to stay where they are and far from threat range, and the Archers are already in position by my r…

Whaddya mean T9A doesn't have representation for the sort of undead the crew from Pirates of the Caribbean are? They're literally a very small Undying Dynasty! An unified group of people bound to their corporeal forms by a curse.

The gameplan isn't for the Pharaoh to risk themselves to begin with, and if they need to fight, it's either against enemies so unthreatening that armor makes no difference, or enemies so threatening the armor, again, makes no difference. Mainly he just chills with the Wizards, and charges or moves out in an opportune moment. Like in my last match where he charged out to finish off the Great Green Idol - So first he'd be threatened by a Crush Attack so armor makes no difference, then the enemy co…
