Battlefield Role: Eliminator aka Blender, Shock Troops, Glass Cannons Unit Mission: Destroying enemy units, rolling up battle line Unit Characteristics: High number of high Str, high AP attacks, often on the charge. Can be relatively easy to damage in turn, therefore should defeat their enemy in a single round, utilising Overrun moves to avoid countercharges. Should avoid charging the opponent's Brawler units who can weather the storm of attacks. Eliminator examples: Knights, Swordmasters, Chari…

So I return to this subject, having read a very interesting series of army building articles on the Goonhammer website. Despite the article being for the 40k game system, I feel it can be used for T9A. The article details Battlefield Roles and how they should be integrated into the overall battle plan. I detail my thoughts on these roles in the following posts and will gladly accept c&c.

  • When deploying Characters, do i have to deploy the bunker that the character will stand in during the same deployment drop as the characters? Or could I deploy the unit, then later drop the character into said bunker?

  • Finally got to sit down with this guy and I think it's getting better. Just need to deepen some of the colours and smoothe the whole appearance. Won't win any trophies, but I'm pleased.

  • I and Astadriel actually incorporated the Nimble mechanic into our Amazons Homebrew - first turn Distracting with similar rules to Born To Fight from OnG. Haven't actually playtested it yet - so don't know if I will have to rebalance it. Most of the Amazons units are DS3 so against elite knights, it shouldn't make it impossible to hit them.

I would prefer the attacker to have the choice, attack the gates/walls or try to go over them. Even both. The idea being that he needs to stretch the defenders. So the options have to have pluses and minuses. One thing we in the real world forget is that there were no flying dragons in our medieval age. In T9A world however, castle designers would have had to come up with something different, because of the use of monsters and other flying machines. I think their castles would have to be differe…

interesting points, I hadn't worked out my own approach to models on the walls yet, I'm more likely to abstract it with attacking models below the walls in practice. I played some siege games back in WHFB5 days and enjoyed them a lot. the strength of a battering ram should depend on numbers of ranks, rather than files I think, but using your idea about numbers, perhaps this is better: Battering Ram use its parent unit's Strength +1, with a further +1 bonus per rank of 8 (Str3 models) / per rank …

I was working on some rules to port Warhammer Siege into T9A rule set, I'd like to share my design ideas for siege towers and battering rams. Though I notice that the battering ram attacks are still visible on the tower entry - well it's a work in progress!!!

  • That picture is in RHworldbuilding's style!
