  • Bows - is it really worth it?

Wesser - - Sylvan Elves (SE)

Quote from IntrigueAtCourt: “Bows are very good in the right config. Bowlers can also be strong. SE have several competitive ways to play right now. Not a low tier army right now. ” Thats not the argument either SE isnt low-tier (in fact Im sceptical any army is). - The argument is that the SE shooting section is overcosted for what it does Quote from Squigkikka: “Have you ever heard of angling your units? You're not meant to place the Dryads 1" in front of the Archers so that they have a straig…

Screen with other small units? Even more risky if you ever heard of overrun.. Also lets not overestimate the actual stopping power of STR4, AP1 shooting. The idea of throwing away Dryad units to enable slightly better shooting is questionable Blocking unit sound easy, but Thickets generally want to stay in forests and they block Volley Fire. Other units need to be powerful, and Then you are you using Them correctly if they serve as blockers? It is in fact very very hard...

Quote from Squigkikka: “Calling it "Bad and ugly" is such a silly statement, especially since it's skewed in such a negative manner. It's armor piercing bows that take no penalty for moving, shoot through units and it has the longest threat range in the game while becoming genuinely threatening at half range (which they can and will achieve often). The cost is the potential problem, not the concept. ” Often? Nay here’s the problem. Sylvan Archers are very difficult to get into short range as thi…

Quote from Peacemaker: “I don't see it. Saying the harpies are OP yet things like WDG dogs, Elf Eagles, OK sabertusks still exist. Sure the eagles and sabertusks are from slim books but the WDG is an LAB. ” Dogs dont fly and dont have musician or light troops. Rest are slim books

  • Quote from Flames: “Quote from Wesser: “Quote from nantuko: “Quote from Ciara: “They never dispel it in their own magic phase or at start of your own? ” I find it weird as well but also my opponents tend to not dispel it neither when I play master Druidism not when I play HBE motc... ” Weird. I always doAnything else put Druidism player at too massive advantage ” me too unless i forget lol... ” I try to remind people of the option. Anything Else is uncool

So far the lists Ive played against or happened to see only uses a small part of the book. Yet to see Herd, Leviathan, Harpies, Dragon or Manticores, Gorgons, Hunting Chariots or even Judicators yet

  • Myeah, when facing Druidism I tend to prioritize getting rid of Oaken Throne unless I have Flaming Attacks where it matters

  • Quote from Alexwellace: “My magic set up I've been using is a Master Druidism, Briar Maiden conclave and an apprentice shaman on eagle. I found myself taking the hereditary relatively often, either on the Briar Maidens or the Master. Are you using 5-man Briars? I tend to find that with larger units their shooting and their range with H spell conflicts a lot The best and most practical use I've found for it is with Dancers. Let's say I have 8 dice, and the Dancers are in a crucial battle or block…

  • Quote from Chorizo: “Quote from Wesser: “8# Str7, AP4 and Adv8 with Swiftstride for a turn is that bad? ” Make a comparative with ogres, Chaos and ID giant, then we talk again.cause we don’t have units scoring that can go alone in the flanc, only 15 iron. ” Ehm okay? - ID Giant is base more expensive that OnG Giant with Club. It does then have a decent save and the benefits of Infernal Brand. It then have 3 options where it can choose between being a buffwagon, better defense or better offense f…

  • I have a game in CR 13, round 3 in about an hour. Im pretty sure I'll be taking Hereditary for that game

  • As a Goblin player only a few of those are relevant 1# Nothing wrong with Creepers. Its a decent BsB, Wizard bunker and unlike normal bow units Can even get off a few shots. A unit of 20 with throwing weapons and shields is just 155 points and good fun to throw into a wood 8# Str7, AP4 and Adv8 with Swiftstride for a turn is that bad? 9# Goblin bows are indeed a trap, but on Common Goblins you get something that Can at least do double duty as tarpit 10# Well against Elves you are in trouble, but…

  • Breath of the Lady is never used. Bring the Pain is good, but hard to use due to the short range Arise is what VC is build around Most of the rest is magic missiles that are a bit low-fluff

  • I Think its a fairly solid spell. Very effective against Poison and Battle Focus, and the rare times you pull something off with Mistwalkers Mirror The only real issue is that it works best with large combat unit. The more MSU/shooty/monster mash your list the less valuable it is, and unlike the HBE/DE it is of somewhat less value before combat is initiated Ideally our hereditary would be useful in any type of list and it Fall a little short there

  • Quote from Just_Flo: “Quote from Wesser: “Lets play a game called “Spot the Germans” ” Correted it for you;) ” Jeebus. Have you gotten so fat you refer to yourself in plural?

  • Lets play a game called “Spot the German”

  • Quite. But if both have roughly even ranged abilities (including magic) Then SE have a slight advantage due to range. Both sides Will be reluctant to move into what Can be short range for the enemy in their turn

  • Would be a shame if they ain't allowed to "finnish" And Im saying that even re-doing pairings is likely to set me to play against UD, gulp

  • Quote from Bogi: “Well, at the end of 7th they were 12pts a model, similar to what they cost now, so the unit cost remained the same. Now they also had similar rules in 7th, 8th then and now, with a relatively short period of having those funky arrow rules. If we disregard this period of funky arrows, we can compare the differences and similarities, point cost and usefulness. In 7th they were a top unit, able to often hold a flank on their own, people feared their shooting and they even engaged …

  • Quote from Bogi: “This thread really shows the power creep happening from 8th that is continuing in 9th. ” Really? Sylvan Archers did have a choice of arrows in 8th and though I cant recall how Volley Fire worked in 8th I remember my 20-man Hawthorn blocks being distinctly nasty
