  • I'm really hoping I'll get to have a hand in the SE book when it comes along, I think we have such strong concepts to play with and so much opertunity to express that in flavourful rules. New question; since the new Dread Elf hereditary seems to mirror the HbE one, what do you think an SE mirror of the concept would look like? 18" aura from the caster, uses veil tokens somehow. Maybe something to do with those Fey Mists mentioned in the background? 18" aura from the caster, grants a veil token, …

  • Worth asking, as despite already having a background book, LAB is quite known to break down units and remake them from the ground up, what unit concepts do you want to see relatively unchanged? I'd like to see the Blade Dancer unit remain mostly unchanged. The concepts of an elite light troops infantry unit with different dances for different occasions. On the flip side, I'd like to see Blade Dancer character to be split off from the forest prince, and be our designated duelist. Very high Ws and…

** The veil is thin, electric potential and unfulfilled promises permeate the air, with a sickening sound that was not a sound ** ** the Veil cracks ** ** Exotic, tortured light spills out of the crack in reality, scratching at the doors of your mind, a Greeting ** ** And sibilant voices begin to whisper, deep into your soul ** Hello you Sinful Lot, after a few delays in order to deal with the demands of some cowardly vermin and valarous knights, we're back at it with something to show for it. • An anti magic dwarf list IS a magic dwarf list though, since anti magic is found in the rune smith. I like the idea of witchcraft. It doesn't exactly fit with my idea of huge kings guard blocks, since they can't make use of deceptive glamour well, but seekers and hold guardians definitely can... I think witchcraft, with it's low cost must stop spells, probably synergies very well with bound spells

  • There's a tournament coming up that allows every race access to a wizard model, who has access to every path in the game. I.E everyone gets everything. Including Dwarves And I've came here to ask what immediate thoughts does that conjure up? I feel that the Anvil, a Rune Smith with grounding (since everyone is gonna have wizards, surely) and a master mage isn't a ridiculous magic investment, and would have channel 4. But then the question would be, how would you abuse it? Associations with defen…

  • And while there are threads lamenting Sylvan Archers being disappointing on paper, there are also a few battle report threads in the list building section, all saying that Sylvan Archers are indeed pulling their weight. I think that SE work very well within the system of an SE army list, and they always do well and what I expect them to do. But on the other-hand, i always use them in a supporting role, never as the main-stay objective of a list. If Sylvan Archers are over-costed, it will only be…

  • Quote from Feynn: “That's only when in general range. But sometimes they made me lose games when I hoped for them to get killed/break from combat and surviving and stayed with Dis 2-3. Also when not on general range terror and another panic tests are nearly impossible to pass. ” are you aware you can choose to use the generals leadership or not? If you want dogs to flee, using their own discipline will almost guarantee it.

  • An Occultism Prophet on Great Bull with Ring of Desiccation, Flames of the East (great weapon) and Obsidian Rock seems like a great single model. I hear a lot of hate for Flames of the East, but the things that scare the Great Bull the most, are models which cannot be stomped, which are models that also tend to have an armoursave. Since the Prophet will never have a bunch of attacks, Flames of the East seems like a good way to get some high AP wounds in on top of everything else. And the ring me…

  • Flame Wardens wizard conclave with Stars align, Fates judgement, Truth of Time and :insert hereditary:, as an elite infantry defensive block with a background dedicating them to defending precious areas from Supernatural threats. That's a unit concept I'd love to see. Acting like the High Elves Men in Black against supernatural foes.

  • On the other-hand, I think the best thing to do is to make the concept of a unit work perfectly, then work back-wards from there on how to achieve it? Long range avoidance is punished, so we push towards shorter ranged play. But shorter ranged play is obviously more dangerous, so we add some counterplay to enable the playstyle we want. I think the most important thing about LAB design is going to be making a concept that works the way you want it to, then start simplifying from there. Also worth…

  • I could honestly see Sylvan longbows becoming Sylvan bows, in exchange for some utility and protection. Sylvan bow: range 24, str 3 ap 1 str 4 at short range. Quick 2 fire, march and shoot. Volly fire But Sylvan archers also gain Elven cloaks (6++ against ranged, hard target if they moved) and a special rule which allows them to shoot and flee as a reaction. Heath riders and pathfinders get this bow too, sentinels keep a long bow. Reduce range, to force us to engage more, but give us more tools …

  • 5 man Briar conclave, with a very specific job. To cast Master of Earth, to heal a treeman who takes the flank away from my druidism mage. To cast either Truth of Time or the Hereditary onto Blade Dancers. Very rarely I take break the spirit, but I think it's sorta hard to cast and druidism is dice greedy. If it's a big dice phase and I don't have it up, I 2 dice Oaken throne first. If it's a lower dice phase, I might 1 dice it, or neglect it altogether. It usually comes up in the early turns, a…

  • My magic set up I've been using is a Master Druidism, Briar Maiden conclave and an apprentice shaman on eagle. I found myself taking the hereditary relatively often, either on the Briar Maidens or the Master. First things first, the spell is cast on a 4+, so it's really easy to cast, and even 1 dice. It has a plethora of effects, and if you can make even 2 of them useful, it was probably a good use of a spell. The dangerous terrains are great, a 1 dicer which has a 50/50 shot of causing a wound …

  • I think our hereditary is one of the best in the game. A+ for sure. It has so many applications people don't often think about. Really quality spell.

  • While I quite like how Pathfinders play at the moment, if I was given free-reign to redesign them for the LAB I would simplify what they have now, and add on the 'master scouts' design space for them. Pathfinders would have Aim 2+ and we'd keep the current Sylvan Bow design, and we'd also add Lethal Strike when shooting in short range. Aim 2+ with Q2F is good enough aim, and lethal strike semi-replicates the AP 3 we have now, but it simplifies the whole package. Then we'd do something similar to…

Quote from Minidudul: “I don't really like the trend of saying "change your army now your playstyle no more match with this army". Especially when it isn't unusual build that are pushed out. Not everyone have 100+ models of each army to switch at will (admitting first that they want to). ” I think you mis-understand me. Gamesworkshop wasn't good at game design. The over-lap between High Elves, Dark Elves and Wood Elves was too much, to the point they where almost pallet swaps with a 2 or 3 diffe…

erm, or just switch to Sylvan Elves? Who are likely to retain 5 man light cav in core, and are probably a closer fit to a scalpel, fast and aggressive army with a high movement focus. No unit in the game is closer to that description than Kestral Knights. Before you burn the mini's, maybe consider flocking the bases and moving somewhere greener.

  • While I wouldn't choose to run max elite archers because I feel like it causes you to drastically loose board presence, I do enjoy our shooting as a support piece. I think your breakdown of points simply doesn't work, because it's clearly not how the designers price things therefore breaking it down into a perceived pricing system...and then tearing down said pricing system, seems like an exercise in redundancy. Units are priced at the price point at which they get used, the standard economical …

  • The Heralds strengths are quite simply his speed, stats and versitility. You cannot re-create what a Herald does with other models. A Sorcerer on Dragon will have better casting ability, and better combat ability if the Herald doesn't kit for it (Stomp + Str 6), but will never be able to hold up a unit like a Stubborn Herald can. Will never have the pure stickyness of a Str 6 Ds 9/10 (casting of rot within) abiding spirit Herald. A kitted Chaos Lord can be more defensive than a Herald, and a Sor…
