  • I guess because historically the people who have made the decisions have been quite risk averse when it comes to balance changes. Which is why I was quite surprised at our 3 requests essentially just being granted, particularly the treefather change. It seems to me the attitude of the current composition of RT is more open minded to specific army's players base sentiment than I have seen previously. Edit: Also don't forget the value of the change is actually in the (reasonable) range we asked fo…

  • Quote from Bogi: “Quote from arwaker: “I think there was some kind of opinion survey some years ago, and a large chunk of the community did not like frequent changes. The 1 year cycle was chosen as kind of compromise between those who like fast changes and those who like a stable game. Not to forget the amount of data we need to collect to get any meaningful result for external army performance. One year of tournaments showed up to give just enough confidence. And it is also a quite handy time s…

  • I'd say more having units / book entries generally with in a reasonably acceptable range rather than 'similar representation'. . It might be decided that for some entries that reasonably acceptable range is desired to be higher than others. Say if SE players want Sylvan Archers cheaper when they are already well represented (and also SE overall are a bit below average at the time), and the change seems likely not to cause other balance issues

  • @Bogi I don't really agree with a lot of your assumptions. Comparing two units that are different and deriving a specific value from that is necessarily subjective. SE players will tell you one thing, HBE players will often tell you the opposite in regard to a cross army comparison between two units. Any judgement solely on the comparison is necessarily subjective based on what you value and how you play. Do you make better use of Quick to Fire or Martial Discipline? How do you derive a value fr…

The main thing with that is to get the project to look at magic bows more as our 'warmachine' category, instead of as magic items I think.

Trees throwing rocks just feels cooler to me. And actually scary magic bows for characters. Or even thickets with big bows. I get where you are coming from tho. Just has to feel right.

The Treeman rock throwing idea has come up before, and I think is fairly likely to be discussed when our new army book gets made.

  • I mean, you're right that there are entries that cost the same but have different values in different contexts (command models, wizard upgrades, even kindreds for Forest Princes and Chieftains). But in the end it's not that important if the aim of the balancing exercise is fulfilled - to have each army to have a reasonable chance of winning a game between two players of equal skill, and each entry in each book to be reasonably often taken as that happens. That is true for Sylvan Archers, so whil…

  • Quote from Art_of_War: “Quote from Hachiman Taro: “- Although cross faction comparisons can be used in some ways, often they are used to push an idea without merit by ignoring the context. Synergies are important to tabletop wargames and a unit without a powerful synergy in an army might be much less powerful than the exact same unit in a different army that does have a powerful synergy, and therefore should cost less. If you simply do a 1 to 1 comparison ignoring the context, you miss that. ” I…

  • Quote from Bogi: “Quote from Serwyn: “It makes much sense that it is safe. The process has already existed for quite some time and there are a lot of reasons to believe that balance is as good as it has ever been. I believe that most armies are within 5% of an ideal 50% win rate. And balance changes on the scale of 5 to 10% may have more impact than you realise. Do you play online video games? From my experience, developpers of competitive games make balance changes of similar magnitude. The pro…

  • Quote from SmithF: “At the risk of going against the flow here, I fear that the treefather move opens up a huge balance issue that we closed three years ago. I don't know if you still remember the 3 treefather lists, but they were horrible to face. Sure, things have changed since then, but there are still a lot of armies that cannot bring tools to deal with three fighter treefathers. And before anyone argues that the TFA + Avatar + Treefather build was still available (and was doing well enough)…

  • TBH I am frankly amazed and grateful for the changes.

  • TBH the biggest thing is RT clearly trying their best to work co-operatively with players to enact changes players want to see without them being too powerful to upset game balance. The details are important, but much less important than that. I like the intent of the changes, I'll have to see how they pan out to know if I like the end effect on Pyro.

  • The update is on its way and @funkyfellow will have a post about it when it is ready. No spoilers but to say I believe the result will be quite good, on its own merits.

We might get a hint of a spoiler or something before that, b…

  • @nantuko yeah to be clear I really honestly don't know if it would be a waste of time or not. But the likelihood of RT agreeing something is a good and reasonable request for the game overall is something that should be taken into account in what we ask for I think.
