That is not my goal, @Kriegschmidt. Your opinions are valuable and I personally thank you for taking the time to contribute. However, stating “X doesn’t work” on paper is not the same as “I’ve tried X and I’ve found it has the following shortcomings”. @'Cam’ always had insightful comments during the alpha thanks to playing the book extensively, and I highly value his input for that. So there has to be a distinction between conjecture and in game experience.

Out of curiosity, could the main participants in this discussion state how many games they’ve played with the new DE book? Is the information here based on in-game experience, or is it an educated guess? I’ll start: 10 games with the current alpha, roughly 20 games with previous alpha versions and playtesting versions.

Quote from Minidudul: “@SmithF, I don't get the point of presenting your list in the debate here : it's about the internal balance of the book where most people here seems to agree Judicators are less attractive than Obsidian Guards in actual DE army (for differents reasons), not about Judicators are bad (worst of two is not always "bad"). And I think your list even prove the "internet wisdom" right as you build your army around them and not them integrating the army intuitively. ” I gave reason…

Quote from Girien: “Oo! I can’t being serious after that list… I will try: you are paying the warsmith rule on the TL for nothing. The 2 Mist leviathan overlaps their deployment rule (and if you don’t began the match the extra movement rule are nearly useless) near to 0 ranged magic damage, 0 magic support. No chaffs no table control, just another kamikaze Waaagh list, and a bad one. these are no DE anymore, and the worst, they are boring. ” You do seem very sure of yourself, which is an admirab…

Judicators have this "perceived damage" vs "real damage" issue. When you look at their profile, 1a and lower agility stand out compared to the Obsidian Guard. But in reality a severely depleted Judicator unit can still deal a ton of damage to heavily armoured or tough foes, where Obsidian Guard would fail. Examples are all cowboys in the game and most 50x100 monsters. The current price of both elite infantry units is very competitive, and it's easy to get 2 or 3 big blocks on top of all of your …

  • My vampire adventure has ended, after five rounds at the WTC: Here is a brief rundown of the games, which will be followed by a post-tournament evaluation and comment on the list: Too much of a bad thing is....good? Nosferatu ramblings - VC List-building - The 9th Age (the-ninth-age.com) In terms of results, the army did what it was supposed to do, never losing a game. One big win, three small ones and a draw (not played), but overall a lot of limitations in terms of what the army can accomplish…

  • Quote from Flames: “i really don't get it. Everyone says its nice though i've played some of you in UB and no one picked it ever.. Also in all of my 60-70 battles on this edition not once have i find it more useful than say full shamanism or full druidism or full cosmo .... There are really good hereditary spells like hellfire, spark of creation, arise, breath of the lady, empire versatility in swapping, UD healing, even daemons have a nice one, Vermin Swarm amazing missile... And there is ours …

Quote from Ilderoth: “I just reported the outcome of a battle I had last weekend. I thought it would be interesting to post some of my thoughts about it here as well. Food for thought... My Army: DE Opponent: ID Score: 3-17 MVP: Judicators and Colossal Kraken (The Judicators broke a unit of 5 Taurukh Anointed with BSB on the charge, and then overran into the Khadim Titan, killing it together with the Kraken) LVP: Mist Leviathan (you do not want to march 14”/16” straight forward into the shooting…

  • Hey guys! VC outsider here! To be honest, I just wanted to try out this idea I've had for a while now: giant skeleton blocks moving forward as a wall, grinding people down while the altars blast any survivors. It turned out to be quite a themed Nosferatu list, with a heavy investment both in magic and in the signature units from the Suffering. Players have been complaining about VC core, the Cadaver Wagon and the Spectral Hunters so I figured I'd use all of them at once. Quote from Eru: “15 spel…

Quote from Ehakir: “I'm curious what the time will bring us.. what I'm getting a bit fed up with though is the communication between the community and the LAB team/task team/whatever team. All discussion over a span of a couple of months is "taken into account" without any concrete feedback (I mean, you could have done a poll or something to see what kind of special rule people would find more fitting for the legion legate and soon realise that the current option is pure tr*sh) and then culminat…

  • Quote from Art_of_War: “Quote from Wesser: “"The Casting Values of spells cast by the model are increased by +1. Dispelling rolls against spells cast by the model suffer a -2 modifier." ” If I got it right, this rule gives DE a +4 casting advantage (+2 bonus for casting as a Wizard Master and -2 for the Dispelling). So its value is like one additional magic dice PER spell, which easily summarizes to 2-3 dices in one magic phase. In my opinion this is ridiculously overpowered and way too cheap. T…

Re: Hereditary spell I see a lot of posts that hint at a misinterpretation of the mechanics of the spell. The "cap" for the S4 ap2 hits is not the enemy model's health pool, but rather the health pool of the Dread Elf unit receiving the damage. The reason this clause is there was to avoid parking, say, a unit of 5 Shadow Raiders in front of a full unit of Wrath Chosen and causing an insane amount of damage when they evaporated. So the spell can definitely threaten warmachines and casters as is. …

  • At the risk of going against the flow here, I fear that the treefather move opens up a huge balance issue that we closed three years ago. I don't know if you still remember the 3 treefather lists, but they were horrible to face. Sure, things have changed since then, but there are still a lot of armies that cannot bring tools to deal with three fighter treefathers. And before anyone argues that the TFA + Avatar + Treefather build was still available (and was doing well enough), I'll point out tha…

  • Quote from funkyfellow: “ 1. While playing your SE have you played against an opponent using the updated Pyromancy yet? If so, was it against a Wizard Adept or Wizard Master? 2. Do you feel the changes to Pyromancy have changed how effective a Wizard Adept using Pyromancy is against SE armies? If so, is it more effective or less effective against SE armies? If possible, can you please explain your answer in detail. 3. Do you feel the changes to Pyromancy have changed how effective a Wizard Maste…

  • The SE community is of course free to ask whatever they see fit. I went back to the archives and checked the internal discussions that happened in the V2.0 update, when the reshuffling of the categories for SE took place. The restriction for Treefathers depending on the presence of other gigantic models was the alternative to the Forest Giant category. Conceptually, monster mash is not a playstyle that should be readily available to SE, but the team wanted to keep the options for Forest Spirit h…

  • Note that while I'm staff I have no knowledge of the inner workings of the RT. So what I write is purely my personal opinion. That personal opinion is however informed by two things: a good understanding of the local and international gaming scene, and a decent grasp on how the project works in terms of balancing the armies. Quote from Art_of_War: “I don't understand how a reduction of the Unicorn will change much. Does it make sense to put a Druid on a cavalry mount if it has no Light Troops (a…

  • 1. Sylvan Unicorn mount for Druid The issue: the mount has to compete with the Eagle King (40 points, fly and a good damage output) and the Steed (20 points, losing 2" march). The +1 aegis is of very limited use, only allowing a single combination (Shamanism master with talisman of shielding). In all other cases, it doesn't justify exposing the druid to combat damage, 4+ aegis or not. Solution: Lower the point cost from 60 points down to 40 points. Paying 20 points for that extra aegis and the t…
