  • Quote from jirga: “You expected that 9th age should somehow inherit all ex warhammer players and got frustrated when this didn't happen. Games Workshop used demo games for years as their main method for advertising. ” I got frustrated because Project who was created by WFB community, has been maintained by WFB community, won ETC place thanks to being more similart to WFB than its competition at some point turned its back on WFB players. I got frustrated because I view it as selfdestructive. Judg…

  • Quote from jirga: “Are you doing any recruiting? GW needs to only announce TOW on their social media channels and whole wargaming world know about the game. 9th age needs more active methods from it's community when spreading the awareness of the game. ” LOL jirga.... Whom exactly do you want to advertise the game to? New players? T9A has never created the rules for new players. The only guy who really decided to promote the game commercially had to write his own version, that would be suitable …

  • To avoid the whole discussion the rule could be moved from item (Eagle standard) to model rules, in which case it could be called Vexillarius or Signifer in full Roman fasion, without enforcing eagle image on players.

  • They have just made Emperor text to speach show illegal...

  • That just confirms that names in the book are names given by Sohnestallers... in which case we could have bands and bandits

  • I just wonder when they start adding expiry date to their minis Magic the gathering has done something similar with cards iirc...

  • How can you deny shiny beauty of obsidian-black cockroach? And they are much better survivalists than turtles...

  • If would say A turning eagle into vulture we would need to say B and turn the whole naming convention into mockery of Avras. Like turtle formation -> Cockroach formation, Legion -> Band (Legionaires -> Bandits) etc...

  • So GW will relaunch the game dead for 10+ years and will start by enforcing their "Intellectual-Property-Guidelines" with "zero tolerance policy in respect of infringement of our intellectual property rights" which includes "imitation models - our products must not be imitated. Imitators produce models which copy heavily from Games Workshop’s artwork, books or products." All those models you've introduced into your collection when GW offered no new miniatures will be banned from tournaments from…

  • Quote from arwaker: “Just to be picky, Germany technically didn't exist in that time, it would be the Holy Roman Empire. ” Empire background seems to be based on Holy Roman Empire... but their army with advanced artillery and gendarmes was more a mix of German and French armies inspirations. German Knighly orders fell victim to secularization so the whole Sigmarite cult with inquisition tweast was closer to Spain. For quite a long time Kislev was treated as part of empire army too... Empire, at …

  • Quote from ferny: “Humans don't tend to have humans on their banners...but we only fight wars against other humans. I'm not sure this logic holds so strongly in a multi-species fantasy setting. ” Except Soviets... but well, it is (sadly) not that theme...

Pretty much the same here: base size defines what it was. If swarms were removed I would use them as 4 giant rats 'mutibase'.

@Davian we are all learning. The generic special rules which were introduced in BRB might not be best selected. E.g. we miss a counterpartner rule for 'Devastating Charge' which could be very useful fow many armies. Or a "mobile spell marker" which resulted in our H spell being one page long to describe with available rules something as basic as spell counter. Restricting LAB to generic rules today would be a step too far: the current set of rules would not provide LAB teams with enough flexibil…

Quote from Davian: “I believe ID, DE and now VS took the opposite route. i prefer ”No special rules” compared to ”a lot of special rules”. i think a bigger variation in the profile would be s better way to differentiate between units. When everything is special, Nothing is. my pet peeve is lightning reflexes on elves. So uneccesary. Just add more Initative instead and let the basic combat mechanics apply. ” Depends what you mean by "special rules" Special rule from BRB are OK - interaction betwe…

Quote from rolan: “Special rules is what sets apart 9th age from many other tabletopgames, and makes our army lists more variable and interesting. ” Well, I believe the goal in the beginning was opposite... to avoid other games design trap, where each unit has its unique rules on it's unique card and where interactions between the rules are getting harder to manage with each unit added...

  • If we were developing completly new setting it would be easier to accept by Oldhammer community. However our background has a lot of references to Old World and in multiple places it starts direct discussion with setting GW had created. While this might be fascinating for people deeply involved in it at the same time more people won't be able to accept such approach.

  • With my historical wargamer backgrund I would have no issues with that. But I realise that there is a group of players who might be upset. There is also nothing that will prevent players from creating armies with that theme... in fact when I look at some supporting companies we are almost there. I am not sure that we needed this controversy.

  • Nope. Try harder. Hint: find historical inspiration with eagle banners, Roman salute and advanced technology... (Hidden Content)
