  • Wasn’t AOS designed to be a gateway game you can easy pickup?

  • Quote from RobertR: “The GW IP thing is most likely done because if they just let anyone use their IP then they wouldn't have a case if they had to sue someone. It's more of a "don't hate the player, hate the game" situation. ” Sure! Maybe… But if you are responsible for the time spend by over two hundred staff members investing their free time into a project, you don’t gamble on the good will of a third party. Particular when this third party is known to send out C&D letters to protect their IP…

  • Quote from JimMorr: “I got frustrated because Project who was created by WFB community, has been maintained by WFB community, won ETC place thanks to being more similart to WFB than its competition at some point turned its back on WFB players. I got frustrated because I view it as selfdestructive. ” You have seen GW latest IP related announcement. Do you really think the project would had even the slightest change of a future if we had decided as you (and probably many Oldworld Fans) would had p…

Quote from DanT: “Nonetheless, I see no reason for members of the community (who are keen to try it) to not investigate it, beginning with a limited case. That way at least your concerns can be quantified and evaluated. Rather than discarding a possible solution based on guesswork. ” Sure! Have fun. If I raise concerns it’s just expectation management. Always happy to be proofen wrong by someone actually doing something. Quote from Folkienn: “Well, there are Softwares like AlphaZero that gather …

  • Quote from Glakthag: “I have quite a bit of LaTeX experience (from my master thesis). ” As mentioned previously: Men Power for serious Layouting is a rare resource for the project. @Eru & Co have worked hard to get our slim books step by step converted to latex. Some time ago there were also thoughts of converting our full books to latex to reduce the need for Indesign-Skillset and license as well as ease the work for translation teams to adapt their work for the full books. To be honest I am no…

Big parts of the community didn’t need it. ” 20+ years?! There must be some GRR Martin wannabe's in that team ;p ” Well the old world, people have in their mind, and natural compare all of T9A publications with, took 30 year to be developed in the degree it had been before the end t…

Quote from DanT: “If a ML approach could do this ” I highly doubt it. The machine learning algorithms I know of need at lot of data. The more parameters (Profils, special rules, synergies) they need to take into account, the more data they need. So far we have more often than not lacked enough data to even provide proper data based statistic reports about the army to army balance let alone internal balance on unit to unit bases. What makes you think we can collect enough data to balance a pre-re…

  • Quote from ferny: “This makes sense so long as what they decide achieves the goal, but for years it has not. ” Developing our own world was and is a long term play (20+ years). Big parts of the community didn’t need it. To be precise, didn’t want it. Just providing updated rules for their beloved old game would had been enough. The project decided it would not be enough to keep the game alive long term, because there would eventually be a generation of players that didn’t know about any past gam…

  • It’s not at all low on the priority list. It just takes far longer than I personally would like it. The reasons why it take so long is connected to how the background team has decided to approach the world building and how they have decided to present the world. I don’t agree with all their decisions, but as with most of the project: The once doing the job, deserve the liberty to decided how its done. Presenting the Compendium just requires roughly 16x as much work than publishing a single Full …

  • Quote from BlackLobster: “They definitely need more in-game lore and background over the story elements currently used in the gold books. ” That just takes time. The Background Compendium should include big parts of it, but it’s behind in schedule by years now. Same day…

  • That seems to be a good point to end the conversation. I feel a bit bad about people who actually want to uses this thread to share their ideas. But letting this run endless in repeating cycles doesn’t seem to make sense.

  • Good input! Like always with the projects, it’s a matter of available man power to implement all at once. But there are definitely valid points on things we can improve. Quote from Glakthag: “ - Put the lore for units WITH the rules for the units!!! Why separate them and have the rules at the end? That's what the slim books are for! ” This has actually reasons. The first full book we did, had no such separation. Quite the contrary. But the problem is: rules/points change (eventually) and need to…

  • That pretty much sums up the spirit of the entire project. Don’t complain that your hobby’s dies, do something about it. That’s how the project started, that’s how basically all staff members joint the project and that’s likely to be the solution to any upcoming challenge we as project and hobby community are facing.

  • Quote from Lord Marcus: “I would suggest an outreach coordinator make and upkeep a news thread on dakka-dakka, so that another vector of hobbyists has a semi-regular reminder of "we're here, the 9th age exists" ” Quote from jirga: “9th scrolls are filled with good hobby content which should give something to everyone. Citadel Journal and Black Gobbo comes to mind for comparison purposes. So getting more exposure for the magazine would create more hype for the game too. ” Both good suggestions… P…

  • Quote from Casp: “so we should continue on our way of beeing whfb successor. Once people have started play T9a they will accept more easily that T9a beeing fully different. But we first need to keep growing. ” True! But long term we need to develop our own identity, because long term there will be no whfb player base to grow from. So while everything you say is right, the opposite is true as well. And we all know how painful slow the world building (and publication) process is…
