  • DE General Discussion

Alexwellace - - Dread Elves (DE)

    Post

Quote from Giladis: “@Palmu as per guidelines Wizard-Warrior hybrid is not allowed to have Wizard Master. ” *Laughs in Omen* I'd like to see something like a Wizard Master Exarch in a Cult auxillary book, but as is I think a wizard master Exarch would over shadow the Warlock by a margin. And would in all likelyhood end up costing Vampire Lord levels of cost. However, there perhaps should be a direct comparison between the MocT Prince and the proposed Wizard Master General Exarch. The prince come…

  • Envy Theme

Alexwellace - - Warriors of the Dark Gods (WDG)

    Post

Maybe give each model a specific part of the model that is their "object of envy". Maybe they're all painted normally, but the shoulder plate is a luxurious other colour. Or they have a fancy weapon, or helm, or shield. But each model has a different "object of envy".

  • Is it low volume though? All of those other poison shooters with 2 shots, also have short range, I e 12". So they're lucky of they get to shoot 3 out of 6 turns. There is every reason that sentinels should be able to shoot 6 turns out of 6 turns against their ideal targets, with an effective 40 inche range. That's the difference. It's why they're an ideal wizard bunker as well, due to having no direct need to be closer than 30" away against their ideal targets.

  • I thought it was because of the decided fluff divide between ID and DH. ID have the best mass produced technology in the world. Basic soliders, in mass forged plate armour and fire pikes, more elite than what Dwarves can bring en masse. DH don't focus on mass produced, DH focus on artistry. DH rune crafted should have a higher ceiling than ID mass produced weaponry, but ID weaponry should have a higher floor. So a kitted out Overlord has access too all the tools of the citidel, but a kitted dwar…

  • Did this continue at all? I'd love to hear about my Scourge Squishing more Mortals. Specifically the Locket prelate vs the Scourge is a very interesting interaction. He steals the Scourges base stats, but doesn't steal the manifestations. So the prelate will be sitting at 5 str 7 attacks, and Ds4, while the Scourge is sitting at 3 Os5 Str 5 attacks + rage. The Prelate has hatred and divine attacks, but the scourge has parry and mirrored scales. It'd be a really interesting fight

  • Hereditary Spell

Alexwellace - - The Vermin Swarm (VS)

    Post

Quote from Cultivator: “Quote from Alexwellace: “The current hereditary doesn't excite me in the same way. Sweeping attacks are cool and all, but is the fact it's only 9 attacks means it'll never ever be scary. While casting 2 hereditaries a turn from turn 1 to 4 would net you several units of 27 hit time bombs, which has a much larger spike potential. ” If my maths is right you'd get 180 sweeping attacks from two cast a turn by turn 5. ” But they take up more space, are more annoying for your o…

  • Hereditary Spell

Alexwellace - - The Vermin Swarm (VS)

    Post

I really liked the previous version, which seemed perhaps a little easier to play with, and I really liked that it grew automatically, giving it a sense of a growing swarm which will overwhelm you. I had a whole army concept based on threatening Wrath of God to allow me to get 2 hereditaries off per turn with the bound spell. Then using maximum tunnel markers, and using map of the deep and overseers to explode markers, creating a no man's land of exploding ground and growing rat swarms to do inc…

  • Which 1k model are we talking about here? The Miser halves multiwounds, the scourge has 7 wounds, the courtesan has easy access to hard target (2), the Maw has 9 wounds at least. So just the Stryxian Spirit Sentinel? Who doesn't particularly have a reason to be within 24". I'm not at all saying that the ability to roll a 6 on wounds isn't hugely impactful, but I do think that we have a fair few ways to mitigate it. I guess I'm saying I'd rather be a 1k pt greater daemon facing down a Mauss Canno…

  • Queens Guard are Sylvan Archers on steroids. They are subtley different from Pathfinders, and I don't think they are directly comparable. But in general, I don't think it's Queens Guard that push HbE shooting to surpass ours. It's the Reaper. 36" 6 shots str 4 ap2, it's really easy to take 3 of them and have them shoot all game for relaitvely little investment. It's relatively easy to tech into beating Queens Guard. Take a binding scroll to stop maladys, take Pathfinders and Hailshot, march into…

  • Given that the above list is 4 bows below the absolute maximum allowed in an SE army, plus packing hail shot, How does the fire power seem compared to the investment? I've used large archer blocks with altered sight or stars align to really double down on it and liked it, but this goes for quantity over quality. Have you perhaps considered downgrading to an Eagle Prince, and use the remaining points to pick up a Adept druid on Eagle, with Cosmo? Altered sight helps Rangers, large archer blocks, …

  • Not if you have a specific goal for it. But otherwise, I'd say so. A kitted out Asfad scholar kicks in at around 600pts. When I'm looking for a magic phase, I'm looking to spend around 500-700pts, unless I'm getting something very specific. For example on Daemons, I play double Master if I'm looking to get 3 Snipes. I'd play a Cosmo Master and a MocT BsB to get double strength bonus. I'd play a MocT Prince and a Pyro adept to get some pure missiles into the Mocts utility closest. Having more spe…

  • @Borjnfer Wraith I think the best magic build for HbE right now is a cheapish master, a Moct BSB and a Banner of Becalming somewhere else in the army. Channel 3, loads of spells, and a great mix of them as well. The Master can bring anything, perhaps Cosmo preferred but really anything. The Master can be replaced by an adept with the book for a cheaper but still effective magic phase. A MocT bsb with BoAP casting the hereditary is ridiculous, since it also heals a wound, has -1 casting value and…

  • Is there an equivilant of the Weave in T9A, and do the Sylvan Elves play an active role in defending and maintaining it? By the Weave, I mean some integral natural lifeforce of the martial plane, equivilant to our mother nature or Gaia, that must be kept in a balance otherwise the natural climate would collapse or corrupt, a fantasy equivalent of climate change. I really liked that aspect of Wood Elf fluff.

  • Another push for feedback of the D6 aspect of the Mauss cannon, has anyone else had the opportunity to face it? Did it feel overwhelming?

  • I'd like to ask the background difference between Dryads, thickets and Treefathers? Are they all supernals tied to living trees, only differing in power of the supernal? I.e lesser and greater daemons? Or is it something more complex? I'm a little bit worried that the Fey aspect of the KoE will step on the toes of the SE design and background wise. Is there any relationship between the Elves and the Fey? I think it'd be quite a miss to not heavily intertwine Sylvan Elves with the Fey, since a lo…

  • I played against the older version of VS, pre-Brute update. I found that their strict army footprint gave us a lot of advantages. For example, Kestrals and Pathfinders seemed terrifying for them without their autohit tools. I scouted my Pathfinders to the opposite side to his deepfire throwers. Spent 3 turns shooting short range into Vermin Guard, hitting and wounding on 2s, then I flank charged those same vermin guard to lock them in place for a turn, hitting on 2s wounding on 3s. While Kestral…

  • @Trains_Get_Robbed The term isn't arbitrary, one poster asked about melee focussed lists when what I referred to was melee powerhouses which counter-charge and control the game-state in shooting focussed lists. I don't think people are arguing that JUST based on this that HbE should be nerfed. They're just suggesting the data shouldn't be ignored. Because we have a game balanced by algorithms, we cannot ignore data because ''the good players were playing this army this year, and it was paired fo…

  • Hey Team, we're looking to get some DL specific feedback on how the new VS feels! We'd particularly like feedback on the Mauss Cannon TnT shooting mode, which has the controversial D6 wounds. Given we are a community which LOOOOOVES our multi wound expensive models, we're a good community to ask. *ACS HAT OFF* My personal opinion is that it's fine. Or rather, no worse than anything else. The d6 wound aspect is 24", and the cannons themselves are relatively fragile (res 4, Hp 4, large). There is …

  • Unfortunately I use this exact conversions and models as my Kestrals! So I'd need something to stand out a little more.

  • Can anyone send inspiration my way for a Forest Prince Eagle King? I cannot find any mounts suitably impressive on the right scale. And once I started looking at other options I got option paralysis. Any help available?
