  • I just received my Abyssal Chroneas in the mail. Before I start clipping, gluing, and painting, are there any tips or tricks people found with the model? Or any pitfalls to avoid? Do I need to clean it with soap prior to painting, for example?

I've been having a huge amount of fun with ID. I actually bought a new model for my titan because of how much fun I've been having. My poor ogres and saurians are sitting in stasis waiting for me to remember that they exist (which is not likely to be soon, given how much fun I've been having with ID).

  • Thanks everyone! I put in an order for the Mantic Chroneas. I'll post pictures when I get it/finish it.

  • I'm looking into getting a new Kadim Titan. I'm thinking that the Mantic Abyssal Chroneas looks promising, but it doesn't give a good indication of the scale (just that it has a 50mm square base). Does anyone have this model? Does it work well for the titan in your opinion? If not, are there any suggestions that fall along similar design lines?

I edited the post. I didn’t realize the supernal thing when we were playing. Whoops. It wouldn’t have changed the outcome much. The time it fled was the only time that it lost, and then it died immediately afterward.

  • I played another 3000 point game, this time vs HBE. Here are my thoughts on the new units I tried: Prophet of Ashuruk: I forgot about the attributes pretty much every time. I took occultism, which was fantastic, but I only had 2 flaming banners, so the hereditary spell was mostly used for debuffing purposes. His best moment was when a boosted breath of corruption wiped out the remnants of a sword master unit in the very last turn of the game to ensure the tie (because I was dumb enough to forget…

Quote from Quantrill: “Hello everyone, I'm a beginner building an army. About the Lamassu, for the accompanying student, what kind of Dwarf is he ? A magician, a warrior ? I don't get what is his role ? I'm asking that to know what kind of miniature I should use to represent him Did'nt want to make a thread just for that. Thanks ! ” The lamassu is teaching his student magic.

From personal experience, the larger groups of dwarves feel better. I remember playing the slim book where it was optimal to fill core with flintlock darts, and it did not ever feel right. It made my infantry feel flimsier and the playstyle was more in line with a bad SA. Don't get me wrong, I love me some SA, but it did not feel right to play ID that way. When I played a few weekends ago, I didn't have an infantry unit smaller than 20 models, and it felt really good on the table.

The 12" flamethrower on the train was great. I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with a 12" flamethrower on a mobile platform.

Quote from Happy Aspid: “Quote from lawgnome: “Disciples of Lugar: MVP. Their damage output was tremendous, even without a flammable target (see about comments about my spellcasting ability). Very happy with them, and I will be bringing them again for sure. ” Could you please provide more information about this squad (numbers, upgrades and etc.)? ” I had 23 disciples with paired weapons in line formation with full command and the prophet of lugar with paired weapons, king slayer, and the essence…

  • I got to play an actual game, with actual models, in person today! It was so much fun! I really had a great time with my ID today. For feedback: it was a 3000 point game, so this feedback may be somewhat different from playing similar units at 4500, so take that as a caveat. Prophet: The lugar prophet was perfectly acceptable. He cast spells (poorly, due to my dice rolling), he fit well with my disciples, and was choppy enough not to be a liability. I have zero complaints about this guy. Lamassu…

  • I get to play my first game in almost two years in two weeks. We are playing 3000 points. I am looking forward to it

  • I don't think they are slaves. My impression was more that they are like Loki and his relationship to Thor in the later marvel movies.

One of the dumb blunderbuss ideas that I always liked was actually a result of misreading the rules way back when. Back in the v1.1 days and prior, the blunderbuss rule was a weird template where the “to-hit” roll was based on the number of ranks in the firing unit (i.e. the more people making the cloud of lead, the more likely it was to hit something in that template). I misread it as being based on the number of ranks in the targeted unit (i.e. the more people that can be hit, the more likely …

  • Quote from GorillaConda: “Also side note back to the Cuatl. What if the other species are subservient because the Cuatls make them dependent on a drug and that’s how the other species are loyal to the Cuatls, but don’t trust or even like them, but have no choice. ” Kind of like the Dominion in Star Trek?

  • Also, the guidelines are guidelines, not the design itself. They suggest the path for the designers to take, and the designers build along that path. Look at the guideline for the magic ability of each species. That guideline says that each species can cast magic, but doesn't require them to. If the LAB team has a good idea for adding magic to a gila character, the guidelines allow it (but doesn't require it). Some of the guidelines, like the samurai nature of caiman or the lack of a larynx, are…

  • Quote from Perch: “It was said at the beginning that cuatls value order above all, so I am a little bit sceptical about the concept of any betrayal to achieve alternative goals in mind or being unstable assets. ” I did say it was a guess. I could be entirely wrong. Let me try putting it another way, since unstable can have connotations and meanings that are unintended. In my guess (this still only a guess), cuatls are unpredictable assets. They are not enemies of the SA, but they are not blindly…

  • Quote from Perch: “I wish we could get more lore snippets about cuatls role in society. I am quite confused to be honest. How they can be mistrusted, but obeyed in battle? What does mean they should be watched by disciplined troops, are less disciplined troops going to turn against them? Why they need jailors, are they prisoners? ” Speaking entirely from a non-staff, non-LAB coordinator standpoint (because I do NOT have an official understanding of this at this point in time), my guess would be …

  • Quote from JeroBeam: “What does "ground-locked monsters" mean? Does this exclude the possibility of a Quetzalcoatl? That would be very sad in my opinion. ” The full guideline is "The army should have access to a number of ground-locked monsters which supplement their infantry and provide shock troops." This is not a limiting statement. It does not say "the army should only have access to a number of ground-locked monsters..." Instead, it says that there should be a many ground-locked monsters, m…
