  • It never gets old. I’d read entire battle reports in the Star Wars crawl style. Looking forward to the batrep itself !!

  • In my opinion, the amount of time spent playing a single T9A game is less dependent on rules and more dependent on the degree of precision that each player aspires to. A side-effect of having a very balanced game is that good use of a unit increases its in-game value by a lot. However, proper use requires more time: this happens also in the tournament scene and with experienced players. Rules queries happen rarely in games in my group, but what determines how long the game will be is time spent …

Quote from arnadil: “Wow. That is shocking. We all knew that we are not the strongest faction right now, but not a single BH list? Can ETC players contirbute some insights why they decided against BH? ” The only reason there is not at least one BH army at the ETC is that team Belgium isn't attending this year. The best results I've ever had in team tournaments have been with Beast Herds, and things haven't changed dramatically since then. Elves are always tricky to face as Beasts, but the lower …

Disclaimer: This is my personal opinion, as a member of the DE LAB team. Other members may view things differently, and this diversity is what helped make the DE alpha book the first one to "hit the mark" almost from the get-go. But here goes: Quote from Boo_619: “sorry, maybe I am misunderstanding what you’ve said here. Do you mean that there are many more “bad” dread elf players then “good” ones? That data as a whole doesn’t matter because some people at the top can still win? Is this a long w…

Apologies, but interaction in the forum is not a priority in my life, even if I love doing so. I wrote a big post about why certain changes were made, please check the TT release notes. You want data upon which we based the changes, and I feel that there's never going to be a satisfying answer - it's a damned if you do d…

Quote from AlWeeks: “Well that was underwhelming. I'm not really sure it's addressed any of the concerns raised in this forum ” Just to be clear, the sources of "concerns" are not limited to THIS forum. Other faction subforums are also being read, and tournament results as well as leading expert opinions were sought. The DE book is intended for the community as a whole, and not just for the 30-odd people that are vocal here. This is not meant as a dismissal of the concerns, but as a way to show …

Here's the designer's notes. They will be probably posted in a separate thread or an announcement, but I think they'll add to the discussion if I post them directly here: Quote from DE LAB team: “Salutations, T9A community! After a long wait, we’re pleased to bring you the 4th version of the DE alpha book. What should you expect? What changed and why? Read ahead and find out! The data: Even if we’re in the middle of a pandemic, we’ve been lucky enough to have access to a couple of online gaming …

In an attempt to inject some positivity in this thread: While I'm not a huge fan of avoidance (or, as others put it, "maneuverable" armies) I do think that such a playstyle is still quite possible with the DE book. Having played with units of 8 Shadow Riders, they are a very good tool. And at 235 points, they ARE in chaff territory. If the 50-point difference between them and, say, a unit of 5 core Elein Reavers is what makes the difference between you winning or losing a game, then I dare say t…

Quote from arwaker: “I think the FieR was chosen on purpose with the explicit intention to encourage people playing Militants in bigger but narrower units. May this intention be valid, it is imho still in conflict with immersion. ” The idea behind the change was to reinforce the theme of a religious mob as opposed to highly skilled independent models like the Blades of Nabh were. We went through various iterations, but in the end decided to stick with FiER for simplicity's sake. (for example, on…

That is not my goal, @Kriegschmidt. Your opinions are valuable and I personally thank you for taking the time to contribute. However, stating “X doesn’t work” on paper is not the same as “I’ve tried X and I’ve found it has the following shortcomings”. @'Cam’ always had insightful comments during the alpha thanks to playing the book extensively, and I highly value his input for that. So there has to be a distinction between conjecture and in game experience.

Out of curiosity, could the main participants in this discussion state how many games they’ve played with the new DE book? Is the information here based on in-game experience, or is it an educated guess? I’ll start: 10 games with the current alpha, roughly 20 games with previous alpha versions and playtesting versions.

Quote from Minidudul: “@SmithF, I don't get the point of presenting your list in the debate here : it's about the internal balance of the book where most people here seems to agree Judicators are less attractive than Obsidian Guards in actual DE army (for differents reasons), not about Judicators are bad (worst of two is not always "bad"). And I think your list even prove the "internet wisdom" right as you build your army around them and not them integrating the army intuitively. ” I gave reason…

The 2 Mist leviathan overlaps their deployment rule (and if you don’t began the match the extra movement rule are nearly useless) near to 0 ranged magic damage, 0 magic support. No chaffs no table control, just another kamikaze Waaagh list, and a bad one. these are no DE anymore, and the worst, they are boring. ” You do seem very sure of yourself, which is an admirab…

Judicators have this "perceived damage" vs "real damage" issue. When you look at their profile, 1a and lower agility stand out compared to the Obsidian Guard. But in reality a severely depleted Judicator unit can still deal a ton of damage to heavily armoured or tough foes, where Obsidian Guard would fail. Examples are all cowboys in the game and most 50x100 monsters. The current price of both elite infantry units is very competitive, and it's easy to get 2 or 3 big blocks on top of all of your …
