  • Hey guys! VC outsider here! To be honest, I just wanted to try out this idea I've had for a while now: giant skeleton blocks moving forward as a wall, grinding people down while the altars blast any survivors. It turned out to be quite a themed Nosferatu list, with a heavy investment both in magic and in the signature units from the Suffering. Players have been complaining about VC core, the Cadaver Wagon and the Spectral Hunters so I figured I'd use all of them at once. Quote from Eru: “15 spel…

Quote from Ehakir: “I'm curious what the time will bring us.. what I'm getting a bit fed up with though is the communication between the community and the LAB team/task team/whatever team. All discussion over a span of a couple of months is "taken into account" without any concrete feedback (I mean, you could have done a poll or something to see what kind of special rule people would find more fitting for the legion legate and soon realise that the current option is pure tr*sh) and then culminat…

  • Quote from Art_of_War: “Quote from Wesser: “"The Casting Values of spells cast by the model are increased by +1. Dispelling rolls against spells cast by the model suffer a -2 modifier." ” If I got it right, this rule gives DE a +4 casting advantage (+2 bonus for casting as a Wizard Master and -2 for the Dispelling). So its value is like one additional magic dice PER spell, which easily summarizes to 2-3 dices in one magic phase. In my opinion this is ridiculously overpowered and way too cheap. T…

Re: Hereditary spell I see a lot of posts that hint at a misinterpretation of the mechanics of the spell. The "cap" for the S4 ap2 hits is not the enemy model's health pool, but rather the health pool of the Dread Elf unit receiving the damage. The reason this clause is there was to avoid parking, say, a unit of 5 Shadow Raiders in front of a full unit of Wrath Chosen and causing an insane amount of damage when they evaporated. So the spell can definitely threaten warmachines and casters as is. …

  • At the risk of going against the flow here, I fear that the treefather move opens up a huge balance issue that we closed three years ago. I don't know if you still remember the 3 treefather lists, but they were horrible to face. Sure, things have changed since then, but there are still a lot of armies that cannot bring tools to deal with three fighter treefathers. And before anyone argues that the TFA + Avatar + Treefather build was still available (and was doing well enough), I'll point out tha…

Do you feel the changes to Pyromancy have changed how effective a Wizard Adept using Pyromancy is against SE armies? If so, is it more effective or less effective against SE armies? If possible, can you please explain your answer in detail. 3. Do you feel the changes to Pyromancy have changed how effective a Wizard Maste…

  • The SE community is of course free to ask whatever they see fit. I went back to the archives and checked the internal discussions that happened in the V2.0 update, when the reshuffling of the categories for SE took place. The restriction for Treefathers depending on the presence of other gigantic models was the alternative to the Forest Giant category. Conceptually, monster mash is not a playstyle that should be readily available to SE, but the team wanted to keep the options for Forest Spirit h…

  • Note that while I'm staff I have no knowledge of the inner workings of the RT. So what I write is purely my personal opinion. That personal opinion is however informed by two things: a good understanding of the local and international gaming scene, and a decent grasp on how the project works in terms of balancing the armies. Quote from Art_of_War: “I don't understand how a reduction of the Unicorn will change much. Does it make sense to put a Druid on a cavalry mount if it has no Light Troops (a…

  • 1. Sylvan Unicorn mount for Druid The issue: the mount has to compete with the Eagle King (40 points, fly and a good damage output) and the Steed (20 points, losing 2" march). The +1 aegis is of very limited use, only allowing a single combination (Shamanism master with talisman of shielding). In all other cases, it doesn't justify exposing the druid to combat damage, 4+ aegis or not. Solution: Lower the point cost from 60 points down to 40 points. Paying 20 points for that extra aegis and the t…

  • Quote from Locklust: “What issues can be raised? Price. Unit sizes. Duplication limits. Category limits. Anything that affects list building. Spell casting value. Absolutely no redesigns will happen (where redesigns are things that affect how something works on the battlefield) ” Quote from Mirdhynn: “@SmithF : The solution you propose for 1) is not possible : "Absolutely no redesigns will happen (where redesigns are things that affect how something works on the battlefield)" ” See the bolded pa…

  • 1. Hereditary Spell The issue: we've established that the spell is situational in both of its potential uses - as panic/psychology protection and as a facilitator of the terror/fear bomb. A good indicator of how popular a hereditary spell is would be how often the mages of a faction spend the points and Arcane item slot for the Magical Heirloom. Having been probably the only BH in 2020 to do so, I can safely say that the loss of the Arcane Slot is not worth it for beasts, even in a list that is …

  • Quote from Firthunands91: “Mind to share your list, @SmithF ? ” I’ll do so later in a separate thread. This one is fit for a highborn (elf). My dwarves won’t have any of that.

  • On the phone so this will be brief for now: I think that the update really hits the nail on the head when it comes to promoting Medium and Large units. I find it interesting that people use ETC as a point of comparison. I’ve taken dwarves to one of these and I would do so again in a heartbeat, especially after this update. Funny thing is, for the first time since the 2017 Forge Warden redesign (which I was vocally against but I’ll remind you that the entire player base was overwhelmingly in favo…

  • My positive outlook might be drowned out by the voices of disgruntled SE generals, but as a Sylvan Elf player first and foremost I am excited about this update! Elven combat blocks are now very competitively priced, as are the fast assault choices, be it Heath Riders, Wild Huntsmen (and the kestrels that were already a steal given their impact on the battlefield). As for the shooting, I appreciate the lower cost for base pathfinder units: at 190 I might start using by them again, a nod to my old…

Quote from wombat: “Quote from xaby86: “The magic of the warlock is powerful, as the opponent gets a high roll on the dice you are unable to disperse a spell even with 2 dice more than him ” Don't get me wrong, out of the last 3 new books I honestly believe that the DE book is by far and away the best of the 3 at this stage of development so congrats to all is due. Yes, some units appear to be slightly too cheap but that is to be expected. However, xaby86 comments have to be considered seriously…

  • Thank you all for the kind words and the enthusiasm with which you've approached the DE alpha release. As @echoCTRL stated, we're closely monitoring all of the books' entries and already have solutions and plan Bs in mind for a lot of potential issues. Alpha testing is exactly that, and our goal is to deliver a book that is fun yet challenging to play with and against. Might I suggest that you move the more in-depth DE LAB feedback discussion to a separate thread? This will make it easier for th…

Quote from Herminard: “Do you feel this build is conditioning the epic clash of armies? Do you agree that the map pack is catering to megabricks in general? Does building the bigger brick seem like the a good fun game to you personally? ” Epic clash of armies... I think that if you put the unit size in relation to the "epicness" of the clash on a chart, you'd end up with a bell curve: really small units can promote avoidance/double fleeing and negative play, whereas huge blocks can be equally fr…
