Very neat concept and certainly different with the big longhorns but with no beastlords (I assume chieftan goes in WH) and double wizards. He's played DE, HE, VS, OnG... of which a few of those are historically problematic for BH. Looks very strong for points denial, wrapping up the objective and then just running over you! …

Thank you for these battle reports, they are fun to read! Commiserations on the losing streak, getting the hang of a new army is never easy. My inexperience with UD notwithstanding, I feel like you're deploying too centrally and playing too much of a stand-off game where your units do not support one another. By going for a more concave maneuver, using terrain to protect you from flanking and making use of your speed (hence force concentration) advantage, you can probably support your units bett…

  • Scott, the painted model is stunning! I cannot like your post more than once, so *high five* from me! Does the red colour scheme mean you’re repainting the rest , or are you simply starting a new DE army ? ( as one casually does )

I've had a couple of late night painting sessions that allowed me to finish my second Jabberwock! the-ninth-age.com/community/ga…76888d3acbdf712366ac8c305 the-ninth-age.com/community/ga…76888d3acbdf712366ac8c305 That was a very pleasing model to paint; the amount of detail is just right, and the pose is quite dynamic. I've left part of the base empty, because I was thinking of including a petrified infantry model or something of the sort. Otherwise, just some filler (a signpost, a small tree) wo…

Quote from Omarcomin: “daaaaymn those red armour pieces look AMAZING. How u did this? ” Thanks man! The sculpt really lets you get away with a semi-quick paintjob, since the runic letters and other armour embellishments are sculpted and easy to pick out with a very light directed drybrush. So essentially I painted the entire armour red (khorne red, washed with nuln oil, then highlighted twice up to mephiston red), and then all I had to do was take a light silver colour (Ironbreaker from GW works…

That beastlord looks glorious, Max! Here's what I've been up to lately: I painted what I consider the best Beastlord model GW ever produced. It's perfect in its simplicity; just a goat and his axe. the-ninth-age.com/community/ga…76888d3acbdf712366ac8c305 (base needs to be done, of course). Right now on my painting desk I've got my second Jabberwock: the-ninth-age.com/community/ga…76888d3acbdf712366ac8c305the-ninth-age.com/community/ga…76888d3acbdf712366ac8c305

  • For all we know that could be the exact background justification of Vanguard and Swiftstride for Seekers. Do it! Paint a unit of Boar Riding Seekers that magically disappear, leaving their place to the regular blokes, once they hit the enemy

Quote from WastelandWarrior: “Looking good! Especially liking the maiden filler, even though I feel the summoning sprites vibe would fit a dryads filler better ” You know what? You're right! Given that I almost never field blocks of Dryads, it didn't even cross my mind. 2-for-1 then, if I ever feel the need to use more than 24 Dryads in an army! Quote from Omarcomin: “Them briars are cool. What model line? ” These are the Games Workshop "Sisters of the Thorn" models, I just went for a more "real…

  • @Omarcomin now I'm jealous. The OmarBears (TM) were not packed with the same amount of love. I don't remember getting a note. Nor kisses. *0/5 stars, sender shows favoritism towards Dan, I wouldn't recommend*

Hmm, perhaps I should rename the thread "this half year I've been painting..." @Mattyp I would probably be a good fit for your "tale of slow painters" at that rate, wouldn't I? Oh, well... Summer is gone, that pesky virus is still around, so back to miniature painting - to maintain a small amount of sanity - we go. First up, we have the Briar Maiden unit filler: I was inspired by the beautiful artwork in the SE book: the-ninth-age.com/community/in…76888d3acbdf712366ac8c305 So queue an enchantres…

  • Another international UB team tournament is under way (40-ish teams -120+ participants): I will not be participating in this one, but five brave souls will be representing the Beast Herds with five very interesting builds. What do you guys make of these? Quote from unsane: “710 - Minotaur Warlord, General, Light Armour (Aaghor's Affliction), Paired Weapons (Blessed Inscriptions), Crown of Horns 505 - Soothsayer, Wizard Master, Druidism, Light Armour ( Essence of Mithril), Seed of the Dark Forest…

  • Quote from ferny: “what legs did you use on this? It's a nice solution! ” It's the Bestigor legs (they are a single piece with the torso), you just have to hack away with a model clipper or dremel (if you've got one). I took the "amateur" road and just clipped away until the legs would fit, not worrying too much for how smooth the cuts were; a lot of it is hidden by the boar anyway. If you wanted, you could use the Savage Orc legs that come with the boars, but I found the fact that they don't ha…

Quote from youngseward: “Alright guys lay some advice on me. Im trying to justify bringing back two of my old favourites, Joseph Ghorgon Levitt and Ghorgon Ghecko (my two gortach models, named for a previous game system...). What do I need to put around gortachs in a list to get the most out of them? I’ve shied away from them for ages because it ended up feeling like they had gotten too expensive and the meta had shifted to emphasise ranged damage. But now I want to bring them back and am keen t…

Ok, reality check. Beast Herds are indeed an army that requires some getting used to. Some builds are easier to use than others, but even things like Jabberwocks are definitely useable. This is speaking from personal experience, that has been documented in my blog and in my list-building thread. I think that previous posters commenting on a steeper learning curve than other armies are right on the money: Beasts do well in the two ends of the bell curve, either inexperienced players (where the sh…

  • It used to be that Random Move gave the model Fearless. Also, Fire Phoenixes used to be Fearless on their own accord. Both of these things are now long gone from the game, which means that my advice is moot.

  • Quote from elendor_f: “Seeing as there is a 68-pages long (and going on strong) recent thread about whether T9A is currently "The Age of Single Models", I thought it would be interesting to submit the following question to this thread: What to do when your opponent's list features several strong, mobile, hard-hitting single models? I realize that the scope of the question is very broad, and the question leaves one's own list completely open, so feel free to narrow the scope down a bit to your li…

So an overdue reply to this thread! First off, I'm glad to see more players coming back to the Beast Herds. The amount of variety in the lists is a pleasure to see, and every last one of them is very well constructed. I hope they all do great, as is fitting for BH armies.
