  • The point is that if the SE player CHOOSES to opt for a Rock-Paper-Scissors build, then he shouldn't complain for being hard countered. My post and some that followed claim that there IS a way to play a balanced Sylvan Elf list that doesn't "auto-lose" to magic missiles. Then again, these balanced lists are not part of the frustrating lists that nobody can catch, as @Cam points out. So perhaps T9A balancing works as intended? Also, regarding Tree/Elf synergy: I took a double Treefather list to E…

  • I think that you can go character light with Beast Herds, as the fighting units are very good on their own even against monsters or cowboys. So as long as you pick the right tools for the job, you can pass on most characters. Minimal magic investment is a huge discussion: I've found that an Adept plus a Greater Totem bearer can suffice, but other players go a lot more magic-heavy with as much as a Master+Adept+Totem Bearer combination. Regarding gear, the issue is that most BH characters already…

  • Quote from IntrigueAtCourt: “On a different note, @SmithF I heard you do roster challenges - how about this one: Mandatory inclusion of: Ancient Dragon + unit of 12 Ryma knights (minus RNF models for characters in the unit). ” Bear in mind that it's been a long while since I last played HE. But here are some general principles I'd apply for that exercise: - With a big unit of shock cavalry and a 1000-point combat monster, the list shouldn't be a bowline, nor a mixed arms list. if you're already …

Quote from ukrocky: “Thanks for the feedback both! @SmithF would the audio be better if it was ‘normal’? If so I can look into it for the next episode? ” I guess it's a matter of preference. You could try -if it's not too much of a hassle- although the sound is very clear as it is. I'll be sure to give feedback if you change it.

Quote from ukrocky: “And episode 12. This thread is quite lonely innit...? ” And what a shame that is! I'm a fan of the podcast, I find the short and well-structured format very enjoyable. I like the fact that you manage to bring on different configurations of people to talk about the hobby, it changes the dynamic and keeps it interesting (I don't mind the fact that Jordan seems to be in all of them, though!). I found the hobby tips (and overall hobby discussion in the 11th episode) very useful …

This weekend I repainted some Briar Maiden models. They had received a rushed pre-ETC paintjob back in 2016 (you can see their previous state in my blog post here: ETC 2016 - Preparation: Painting update!), and I hadn't touched them since. But as the flavor of the month is cavalry, I decided to try out the colour scheme for the next 8 Briar Maidens on these ones first: the-ninth-age.com/community/ga…3a3dc9bd7daeef7402c0c409c the-ninth-age.com/community/ga…3a3dc9bd7daeef7402c0c409c I officially h…

And for something different again: I've been painting Heath Riders! I converted some Glade Rider models with Sylvan Lances, using standard poles and the lances from the Wild Rider box. the-ninth-age.com/community/ga…3a3dc9bd7daeef7402c0c409c the-ninth-age.com/community/ga…3a3dc9bd7daeef7402c0c409c These are nearing completion, I'll probably add another highlight at some parts and do the bases but you can see where I'm going with them. Basing will have to wait (no more static grass!!), so next up…

  • I wonder how many spectators a UB room can hold. Last time I checked Jerzy's battle there were 50 people watching. On a side note: over at the Beast Herd subforum we gave the 'ol Jabberwock a try even though conventional wisdom said it's useless. I was pleasantly surprised by it. Perhaps you guys could make April the "bring your Frost Phoenix to the table" month? I refuse to accept that a flying model with D6 Stomps and 5++ aegis that costs 300-ish points is useless. If a Jabberwock can find a w…

  • I answered @Falco 's questions in a rather long post in the list-building section, so that we can keep this thread for general SE discussion: The spellweaver's grove: army list makover!

  • Long time SE general, I tend to wander off to other armies but I keep coming back to the forest every time. You can read about my SE tests in the list-building part of the forum, but I felt I needed to post here to bring some optimism back to this thread. I have been playing pure Sylvan Elves with no tree spirits for the best part of these last two years, at competitive tournaments (both singles and team events). For people that require credentials, I have attended the past four ETCs with three …

Well the forum has been slower than usual; proof that people post mostly while slacking off in front of a PC at work? I've been giving the Longhorns some thought, so I thought I'd ask you: What is your preferred Longhorn unit size? So far i've tested three configurations that I liked: a) Small ambushing units of 10 with Halberds. These need no introduction, they are a steal for their points and their main advantage is their Discipline 8 that provides a more than decent chance of passing their Pa…

I managed to get 4 games in this month with my Jabberwock list: (Hidden Content) All of the games ended in (small) victories for the Beasts (against Vermin Swarm, EoS, KoE, SA), and I never had the impression that the Jabbers were "dead weight". I used them as flankers, and at times as flank guards. When pushing with a BH army you're worried of enemies going around the flanks and threatening the backside of the army. Jabbers help against that. I often used them closer to my lines but angled to p…

Greetings, I have a question regarding images uploaded to the site: Is there a way to surpass 1000? I'm asking because I'm nearing that limit (912 and counting), and roughly 800 of them are the photos/diagrams of my battle reports. I would hate to have to delete older battle reports, these seem to still be getting views. I've still got a battle report to upload (roughly 15 pictures), and after that it means that whenever I get the chance to go to a tournament next I will not be able to do my usu…

The art of striking last With almost everyone stuck at home because of the viral outbreak, I figured that abit of debate in this subforum would help lift spirits and pass the time. If you're reading this in the metro/bus or with a bunch of people around you and you're not a healthcare professional, you’re doing something wrong. Now that we’re through with this message, lets focus on something else. After playing with two different types of elves for a long time, I started playing Beast Herds. On…

  • I've played in tournaments in at least six different countries, in three different versions of the legacy game and then T9A. The proportion of bad sports in the GW game was way higher than what we encounter now in T9A. And by that, I mean that in my current game scene we have ZERO players that "Take the game too seriously and ruin the fun". That's out of roughly 60-80 people that frequent tournaments in Belgium. (Mind you, around 30 of these are what you'd call hardcore T9A fans, the others bein…

Quote from youngseward: “I’d give my right nut to get Witchcraft for this army. ” It's funny, I've found myself thinking along the same lines (no nuts in the balance, mind you) for Sylvan Elves. It seems to me that the armies that would benefit most from Witchcraft are the ones who don't get access to it. Could this be.... balance?
