Imagine if Mongrels didn't have access to the Wild Herd banner... then suddenly Wildhorns with 2 attacks, OS5 and a one-time S4 Ap1 would seem like a good deal, especially when backed by Shamanism or Evocation. I like @Scumboogie 's suggestion about Drunk Wildhorns, but in the right hands they would probably be too good. For now: Try out Shield Wildhorns with character support (BSB/General/ Soothsayer with Ancestral Carvings), they work surprisingly well. For the Paired Weapon variety, I'd still…

Quote from Tyranno: “And the seekers... they need a look at. The "always wound on 4+" is horrifying as special rules go. And the fact that they are special with no limitation beyond a 0-3 means that people can just tidal wave them. I remember seeing the stats from the last ETC, over 340 Seekers used total. And they got buffed after that. Despite having the 3rd best record at the event AND winning other tournaments. Look at Luxemburg the other week; 1st and 3rd place to DH. How was this army desc…

  • Don’t forget the slit for spell cards. This way your opponent can clearly see what spells are effecting the unit. Very good design, actually. The guys from Russia had something similar so perhaps there’s a way to get them on the market?

  • Well done Shannon, very impressive results! Now let me go back and find all of the posts of our fellow sylvan elf players in this forum claiming that "only Tree lists can work" or that "Bladedancers are crap" and so on. Quote from Snarkhunter: “If you're thinking of trying something similar, the advice I would give is to stick with it. It took me at least 15 games before I started feeling comfortable with the list. I'm at about 30 games now, and still discovering new tricks to implement. So ther…

One important advantage of single chariots is that they can occupy a big portion of a unit's frontage, while your heavy hitters clip a corner. It usually makes up for the lost HP thanks to the impact hits, and when/if it dies it leaves your units in good positions against the enemy, where only one or two models can strike them. I watched part of the game vs Amit's daemon (game 4 on PTG's channel), and saw him pull off game-winning long charges. Unfamiliarity with the Beasts might have played a r…

I love them and I have two beautiful models, but I find it hard to bring their aura into play: The panic checks that we can guarantee are terror checks, but they happen before you can move the Jabber close enough. We do not have a good shooting and magic missiles, so there is not much panic checks caused by ranged attacks (except for the Jabbers own breath attacks). The only th…

@All: So here's what we're going to do. Lets make March (not February, since list submissions are already a done deal for many tourneys, and I still need to paint a Jabberwock or two) the "bring your Jabberwock to work" month. I refuse to accept that a 300-point flying terror-causer with a Breath Weapon is a bad choice. The rules of the challenge are simple: Write any list you like, as long as it contains at least one Jabberwock. You get bonus points if you write a list with two of them. Bring t…

To me there's a design issue with beasts, but you won't be happy to hear it. Primal Fury is a rule that works great for the infantry part (or the "standard size" model part) of our list. It gives a nice buff without being broken, and kind of helps offset the low agility problem that beasts have. I believe that it was not designed for use with Minotaurs and Gortachs. And that's the one point where @clorens is right in his criticism: Battle Focus + reliable rerolls to hit seems to be a HUGE issue …

Interesting, so 3 units that are immune to panic (chariots w/shamanism Soothsayer, minos, Discipline Longhorns+general) and then the rest ambushes? In my experience units of 20-ish longhorns with Blooded Horn support can work wonders. At that size they are competitively priced and don't lose you the game if they die.

Quote from clorens: “beastlord in chariot bsb master druidism wildhorns ambuhs mongrels minos chaff centaurs gortachs Isn't this the caal list? ” You literally enumerated half of the choices of the Beast Herds book. Centaurs as a small chaff unit with paired weapons do not perform the same role as centaurs as a big fighting block. Otherwise I could claim that fighting Wildhorn blocks are well represented because Caal's list has 2 of them. You can't have it both ways. I will venture once more and…

I had stopped following this thread because of the repetitive nature of the posts, quite often by the same posters. We've established that in Spain (and the rest of the civilized world, for that matter!) only one list gets played, that everything else is inferior to the ONE list, that Beastlords on chariots, Gortachs and Shield Minotaurs are the best thing since sliced bread. We've also noted that it was very unfair that the afore-mentioned choices were "nerfed to oblivion" by 10-20 point price …
