  • @da_griech Me and you are obviously getting very different feedback on DE And I know people (staff even) who stopped playing DL because the LAB killed the spirit/concept of the faction for them. That's why I think we need to properly gather more systematic data on this, that goes beyond just the forum. But we need volunteers who are prepared to do this

  • (not commenting in staff role) Quote from dan: “Honestly your 2D3+1/3D3+2 format should be trialed for all bound spells. Still the same average of 5/8 with some actual risk/reward potential. ” Note: the risk/reward is asymmetric due to the inability to fail the casting roll. The 5/8 (4/8 outside DH) is carefully chosen based on consideration of the relevant probability distributions and tipping points. If moving to a variable roll, the average should be below 5/8 in line with these consideration…

  • FWIW my take (even when I wasn't staff) is always that I am more interested in understanding the different views well, than trying to argue who is the majority. Understanding and communication increase the chances that low-cost high-gain solutions can be found, and solutions that generally improve things for more players whilst doing minimal harm to other players can be found. But these things are not easy, and require accurate and precise feedback, and somewhat more than skin-deep analysis. Quo…

  • Quote from Krarks: “Would it possible to create "negative guidelines" aka "that is currently definitly a thing/theme in the slim but will not be a (major) theme in the LAB? For example something "while the houses are very important to society, the focus of the LAB will be (likely?) on the warrior-houses, where as specialized houses might be the focus of coming supplements". Something like that would make it very clear what to (not) expect. But I'm not sure whether it possible at the moment the g…

  • @Alexwellace I was musing on your idea of a cheaper non-dragon lord... of course I can always put the wizard on a dragon... then I end up with something like this: Wizard-master, druidism, heirloom, dragon, bow 815 Bsb-horse, black stag, lance, light armour, shield, bow, 2 aether icons, cloak 330 Prince-general, elk, destinys call, sylvan blades, titanic might, wild hunter, bow, hail shot, light armour 640 5 fast cav-bows 205 15 cav-FC, distracting 515 18 archers-musician 418 11 huntsmen-champ, …

  • Quote from rolan: “I think the process of discussing guidelines - setting up guidelines and working out a book with them - presenting the book as alpha and hopig to fine-tune the work is a bit flawed.Let me explain: People talk about the guidelines. Those things are rather vague, we talk about principles of the army, playstyles, basic functions and the like. Then the guidelines are written down, and presented. At this point, no one kmows how the guidelines will be translated into actual rules. B…

  • @BlackLancer I just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to write such constructive feedback, I think there is some good stuff in there, and it makes a real effort to scratch below the surface, kudos

Quote from Izomov: “Quote from DanT: “This is a common misconception, but I am afraid it is not true. The "lack of competition" argument (whilst a common argument on the forum) misunderstands the interplay between the internal and external balance reference points. ” I'm not sure i follow you here. The Stank does something completely unique for the EoS book, no other entry does what it does. It gives you a shooting platform, cannons can do this. It gives you an extremely durable single model, cha…

  • Quote from rolan: “not everybody sees every part of the Forum, not everybody participates in every discussion that turns out important for him. ” This is true. Serious question: How can this be fixed? The project has to work sequentially in some fashion, otherwise the books will never be done. Which means there needs to be a period for feedback on the guidelines, then a period where the team are working under the revised guidelines. Tweaks are possible of course, but overhauls are difficult and …

For me (not just from ETC but generally over the last ~9 months or so) I think relatively/internally the core knights have dropped in price too much. They are almost ubiquitous in competitive lists from what I've seen. Quote from Adaephon_Delat: “You cannot price it properly. As you say, it is without competition within the book. It will be Auto include also if it is priced 600 or more points. ” This is a common misconception, but I am afraid it is not true. The "lack of competition" argument (w…

  • Quote from Bogi: “ In essence how likely is for the discipline mechanic to change? - you can comment on it in staff role if you like. ” I don't have this kind of insider info on VS (I am not on the VS team and I am only tangentially involved) so I can't answer this in any role

  • (not commenting in staff role) I encourage people to think a tad more conceptually/macroscopically. Otherwise we get to "the only thing we can do is put disciples in exactly as they were", and my hunch is that this might be less likely to be acted on than some more general lessons No LAB can be or will be beholden to the details of any previous individual design or unit, but there is a desire to achieve books that are macroscopically/spiritually similar, with some of the same feels/concepts.

  • (not commenting in staff role) Follow up thought/question: can the dreadmill chariots do the job of the old disciples? Yes/no/why (not)?

  • (not commenting in staff role) It seems to me here that the loss of the plague theme is perhaps not the key point here. Rather the loss of a very elite and efficient light troops combat unit, and the possible subsequent ramifications for list variety. I think this is arguably more of an early t9a screwup than a current t9a screwup in the sense that this unit kinda gained its prominence during the less strategic/coherent t9a phases. (E.g. in legacy and in t9a, I don't believe it would have been c…

  • (not commenting in staff role) Quote from Davian: “Quote from Bogi: “I'm actually not sure, but one list had 0 infantry blocks, except a small unit with the storm banner to catch flyers and a minimal unit to push the pendulum. I also had four units of vanguarding slingers and lots of light troop units. ” But is that a plague themed list? ” It is a winning-themed list Edit: this was intended to a humorous throwback to Heelanhammer... but I guess that reference is probably lost here...

  • Quote from jaith1: “Deception Rangers and Silent Mist Wild Riders are both very cool ideas, I really like these innovations in particular. I’m not entirely convinced on this big kestrel unit, think I would personally replace it with a treefather and then run x2 fast Cav with bows+champion in core (filling out core with a big archer unit and a small one). The kestrel unit feels kinda dirty if your opponent is drunk or something (unchaffable flying champion to support the dragon), but otherwise I’…

  • Quote from Alexwellace: “Given that the above list is 4 bows below the absolute maximum allowed in an SE army, plus packing hail shot, How does the fire power seem compared to the investment? I've used large archer blocks with altered sight or stars align to really double down on it and liked it, but this goes for quantity over quality. Have you perhaps considered downgrading to an Eagle Prince, and use the remaining points to pick up a Adept druid on Eagle, with Cosmo? Altered sight helps Range…

  • I've iterated the SE a little Wizard tree-master, druidism, heirloom 775 Forest Prince on Dragon: Sylvan Blades, titanic, hailshot, bow 800 Bsb-bow 195 5 fast cav-bows 205 21 archers-musician 481 19 archers-musician 439 11 huntsmen-stan, champ, silent mist banner 545 24 rangers-+1 advance/vanguard, FC, deception banner 600 5 kestrels-bows, champ, standard 460 4500 The list won its first game, and it felt a bit more comfortable to use than the other SE variants I've been playing with. I also like…

We are looking at some of these things Just to manage expectations a little: This is a significantly smaller design update than e.g. the previous one. "Looking at" is not the same as "have found a solution that both the LAB team and RT agree is an improvement" My personal view is that we are on track for a pretty good update, so don't be disheartened... I just wanted to manage expectations before people get it in their head that we are overhauling half of the units

  • I can't believe I missed this during the week. Don't mind me, I am just here for the geometry. Oh, and for the record, my ε is smaller than @teclis2000 's #weirdbrag
