  • Quote from AlexCat: “Dunno if it belongs here but hopefully someone will tag someone responsible, so, the letter will find his recipient. In the Flux cards supplement the-ninth-age.com/community/fi…/index.php?download/3637/ for the weather cards number of Magix Dice/Tokens correlates finely with "common" cards but for the card #3 Howling Wind which is 5/2 (same as the previous) instead of 5/5 as for the "common" card #3. My question: is this a typo or intended? ” Yeah, I think it was intended to…

  • Quote from Mirdhynn: “OK... Hope there is a human analysis when B is highlighted. Do you confirm ? ” Sorry, I am not 100% sure what you are asking? It is not a highly rigid process... i.e. there is no "griffons must be seen exactly as many times as heavy infantry". Does that answer your question?

  • Quote from Mirdhynn: “What in the "data process" lead to decision that an element need to be cost augmented ? ” Combination of internal and external balance data. Basically the computer code converts the goals... (A) 4500pt lists from different books achieve broadly equal win rates/scores overall/on average. (B) The lists contributing to (A) from a particular book show vaguely equal usage of the elements within a book. ... into mathematical form. There is a certain amount of freedom in the form …

  • Quote from Mirdhynn: “I don't know. Such principles have lead to some mistakes too The last I have in mind is death warrant. Was always taken by BSB + blacksteel. So it was decided that EoS players always take death warrant and it has to pass to 60 pts. And now... EoS players continue to take death warrant. Their BSB is just 2+ instead of 1+ The problem have not been solved and the BSB are now weaker ” Let us unpack this, it will be instructive I think... Point 1: the big picture Note: The princ…

  • You are part right. The point is that the correct price is higher than players think it should be, because players don't think about internal and external balance correctly/holistically. It is not true that the inelasticity to price holds for any price, and staying in the inelastic region is bad for the book. To be more specific, lowering the price on such elements (or the prices just being lower than the correct price) causes two problems: Internal balance gets worse (other options less likely …

  • Quote from arwaker: “DanT do you know more than us? Have you seen recent average win/loss data already? ” Let me clarify my post above: This is just my own estimation of the external balance and has no more validity than any other individual's view and should not be taken as a fact if in contradiction to the aggregated data as/when such a dataset is presented. If the data say that EoS need 5000pts to be competitive and this is done, I will come out of retirement just to win every event in the UK…

Quote from GarrethSw: “My question was basically to define the objective that we are trying to reach. Which is pricing for external balance. So units should be priced with their worst combo in mind and not their individual power. The idea being that the best list of each book are sitting roughly at the same power-level. Which is simply the extension of the external balance > internal balance idea. The concern it raises is, I think, internal balance. Is it possible to reach an equilibrium in both…

Quote from GarrethSw: “Quote from DanT: “Just to be clear... the problem is not necessarily spamming individual entries. (as alluded to in the second part of GarrethSW's post) It is the natural process of lists adding up to more or less than the sum of their individual parts, due to the emergent behaviour. Spamming is a subset of that, but only a subset. The problem is bigger and broader than that, and solving spamming will not solve the problem. ” List-building focus on creating lists that perf…

  • If ever anyone needed an example of the importance of player context, or variation of player views across the community, they just need to look at this thread FWIW, I think that if EoS were allowed to field 4800-5000pts, they would be indubitably top tier, even with no changes to other books. It is not like the current book has zero tourney wins, right... Certainly it has seen podiums. Definitely less than this is needed for them to be at the average external power level, which should be the goa…

Quote from WastelandWarrior: “Assuming this were possible (designing units that arent stronger when spammed) can you explain to me how, because Im too dimwitted to imagine the process. Secondly, if it is possible and the method is known, then why wasnt it done in the first place? ” It has to be done holistically over the whole book, with attention paid to the emergent playstyles and how the pieces fit together, as much as paying attention to the individual designs. Designers/community also need …
