  • So many cool units in this thread...

  • I use bladedancers...but mini! the-ninth-age.com/community/in…48d84004e353a3e8257de31f9

  • I really like the Tyro idea, someone in my playgroup had it a while ago and it always suck with me was pretty workable. I think it would make sense not to have scoring, or maybe gains scoring while near a ranked unit (herd beast). Do we think having 2 skink handlers in the uint with it would work to limit light troops, or too fussy to be worth it?

  • Quote from Blingley: “This I actually disagree. In fact, I would be happy with 6 inches shooting on some units, provided it was powerful enough to warrant getting close and maybe came with march and shoot. Closer the ranges and higher the reward for finding good shots at close range, the higher the skill ceiling for the faction will be. I have no doubt that the point value balance will be found for any range configuration, and I'd prefer it to be short to differentiate the faction from others mo…

  • I think there is scope for "toxins and venoms" that dont actually have the poison rule for skinks with javelins, blowpipes and bows. - +1 to wound. - Simple STR bonus. - Making difficult terrain for the unit next turn. (just ideas) And there is space to make the weapons themselves different.

  • Quote from Davian: “Yeah probably. I sometimes wonder how that disconnect first got to be a thing. I blame tolkien for his mix of nordic names and words coupled with british fantasy. But the fact is that there is so few connections between norse early mediveal society and traditional fantasy dwarves that it makes me scratch my head every time people connect them. The only thing dwarfs and norse have incommon is the naming conventions. Most fantasy dwarf names seems to be nordic inspired. But the…

  • Quote from HappyCan303: “The ID are more of a "medium" range army with a strong shooting contingent between 12 - 24" and actually decent maneuverability... which actually only strengthens your argument. Right now there really isn't an army that fits into the 'close range avoidance' category as the general avoidance play style was hammered into non-existence in earlier versions of T9A as a whole. However, maybe if it's designed from the ground up we can get an over all buy in. Now what exactly th…

  • Quote from Davian: “Quote from BlackLobster: “Quote from Davian: “How do you connect dwarves to the Norse? The only similarites are the names on some units and a legacy of norse inspired names on indidivual. on a societal and warfare basis they have almost nothing in common with the norse. ” Sterotypes. I come from a D&D type gaming background and Dwarven culture is frequently depicted as being more like (but exactly, as you say) Norse. Runes, a love of drinking and fighting. That sort of thing …

  • Quote from Dancaarkiiel: “I wanted to bring it a little bit later, but now it seems like this thread could use a change of pace. What do you guys think about removal of Pyro? Not only Path per se, but what it indirectly means to one of our main playstyles - Guerilla/Cloud one. Anybody that played list like this (basically essence+shooting), knows that Cuatl is the one doing the heavy lifting, Skinks and Weapon Beasts are the supporting pieces - not the other way around. I'm worried that removal …

  • I agree that discussing specifics is unlikely to be predictive, but I think people are just hyped to imagine a new book.

  • How do we think the three themes/play styles will work and synergies with one another?

  • You all bring up an interesting point. Are the names in the book going to be "saurian" derived from a saurian language, or "common tongue" names?

  • i like this. Kind of like Sidhe in Changling the Dreaming. I also like that there are a large veriaty of SA cultures. Lets have our cake and eat it.

  • Quote from Marcos24: “Quote from Rixitotal: “i feel like we might all be getting hung up on some fluff text that will in no way impact rules or army lists… ” Dude… you need to remember that not everyone thinks like you do. For me, if I don’t like the background, I don’t like the game. Rules are secondary. Still very important of course, but I can’t play an army that I don’t want to identify with or I don’t want to “be a part of” in the setting/world. That’s literally the only reason I don’t play…

  • Quote from GorillaConda: “@Rixitotal that’s making a huge assumption that the dis would be improved. Taking things away has been the rule. I watched my wodg army get worse just like I see in the SA forums talk about things that don’t matter taking precedence over keeping the army competitive. while we are at it. Let’s take away born predator. if you want to remove core things from SA,then let’s just blow the whole book up. It doesn’t look like those in the book creation care about anything, but …

  • Quote from GorillaConda: “Losing cold blooded rule would really cripple SA. See ya later Pteradon Sentries. Good luck on your frenzy check Rhamphodon Riders. ” If cold blooded was removed then you would no longer have to suppress the armies Dis stat to compensate for it. I think no one is advocating removing cold blooded and keeping their current stats. I am talking about normalising our discipline and removing cold blooded. Then create something more thematic than "percentage bouns to disciplin…

  • Quote from sonny1086: “Quote from Rixitotal: “There is a good chance we lose the current version of Cold Blooded all together so worrying about specifics is not needed. ” The thing about the Cold-blooded rule is, its fluffy AND simple. Cant image that a change make things better. Keep it or remove it. No need for unnecassary changes, which increase complexity. ” I dont think it is when you consider the end result. that is about +1.5 Discipline. If you just made Cuatl and Saurians Dis 10, Skinks …

  • I think when it comes to being as specific as Dis scores we shouldn't make any assumptions. There is a good chance we lose the current version of Cold Blooded all together so worrying about specifics is not needed. I agree though if we are to have a single race, Gila for example, that has a much higher LD than others then that limits design space. I agree @wombat that making Caimen a legit general option sounds good. IMO Skink leaders should not have the same dis as other options.

  • Regarding characters, as i think you are exactly right @Dancaarkiiel, the Cuatl is frankly by far our most fleshed out and interesting option at the moment. None of our other characters have much special about them, they are statlines with mount options. I can not envision this will be the case in a new book. Skink leaders could likely have scouting/monster support options, Gila may have some rules ot support the Grinding playstyle, and maybe better leader options, and Caimen seem to have a them…

  • Quote from Lawot: “And to move on: @Darth_Fraggle I agree that the Cuatl is a really important matter of debate. I've got mixed feelings on this. On the one hand, I agree - the unique BSB/General/Wizard combo is really iconic, and is another way of expressing how important Magic is to the Saurian Ancients. On the other hand, if I'm being honest with myself, I love it because it's iconic of the Lizardmen. And I never liked the degree to which it was an auto-include. So my questions are: 1. Is the…
