Quote from Glonojad: “Have GW scrapped them already? ” No, they are still there.

  • Quote from jirga: “Supplements are what keeps this game fresh. Core armies are bound to legacy expectations whilst supplements have total freedom. If there's some overlap so what. ” And whoever these two new armies are. They have total freedom by comparison, and it will be very interesting to see what they turn out to be.

  • Quote from Monsieur Ramior: “With this logic, all the non human factions would not exist, since they are 100% fantastical. ” I think there is a gap in-between that blurs the lines. Example. What is the difference from a "too fantastical" perspective between a goblin on a wolf and an elf on a dragon? They are both fantasy humanoids on mounts right? Well, the thing is, despite being less human-looking, the goblin on wolf does strike as a bit more familiar to people. It's mimicking something humans…

  • Quote from Monsieur Ramior: “Then, what the point of being on a fantasy setting? At this point just stick to historical wargames. ” There is merit though to keeping the fantasy more minimal. How does that phrase go again...when everyone is super, nobody is.

  • Quote from Reliquary: “Question becomes whether the game has rules to represent these characteristics and whether players will want to play battles in "unfair" geography. Rules for gunpowder becoming wet? For knights suffering from heat? Encumbrance and humidity? If Saurian Ancients, for example, excel at marsh fighting but get ran down in open fields, they'll be a bit of controversy over the battlefield terrain when they play. What we want in a miniatures game is for armies to be more or less b…

  • Quote from Marcos24: “that’s not exactly true, way before even the first crusade there had been cavalry that were far more heavily armored than anything the west had brought. And even during the crusade period and after there were equally heavily armored cavalry among the middle eastern armies. What determined the make of those armies and their equipment was tactics, rather than the other way around ” I mean "don't march your heavily armoured men through the desert at the heat of the day" is the…

  • Quote from Reliquary: “Yes, Cortez was also rather lucky but that doesn't negate his numerous concrete advantages: gunpowder, crossbows, iron armor, iron swords and horses. Doesn't seem to unreasonable to speculate that a conquistador army larger than Cortez' but still much smaller than the Aztec forces would have triumphed. ” Metal armour, cavalry and gunpowder are not as advantageous when used within environments that do not favour them. Horses do not do well in marshy wetlands and gunpowder i…

  • Quote from Giladis: “Cortez and Pizarro were probably to luckiest pair of cousins in history with a pair cajones to match ” Reading up on everything involved, it is basically like watching a D&D game with a pair of bards who roll nothing but natural 20s. The entire situation wouldn't have even happened if the soldiers at Cuba had kept a better eye on their ships.

  • Quote from Reliquary: “Speaking of more populated native regions, Cortez easily conquered the Aztecs before they were devastated by smallpox. To be fair, with thousands of years experience fighting orcs and beast-men, you would expect every surviving human group to be more militarily capable than its historical analogue. ” I wouldn't call what he did "easy" from a perspective of advanced tech beats less advanced tech. Firstly, Cortez had an alliance with the Tlaxcala (who alone provided him with…

  • Quote from Giladis: “Varkolak is what the English speakers would call a werewolf. ” Aaaah! And here I was going "I don't see Lycanthrope in here..." But I'm glad the werewolf model I bought my friend to use was a good pick. Quote from jirga: “Not a fan of werewolves being minor sidekicks to vampires. Also they aren't undead. ” The former I get, as vampires do have a lot of connections to wolves, and controlling animals. Hell, some vampires even turned into wolves in certain myths. Also the Necro…

That's because it's a large flying mount, and they all have 4HP as standard (and honestly need it due to clipped wings existing).

Quote from da_griech: “Sad to hear; is it also not possible to give something like a short update simply for base sizes? For me that would be quite important, and I guess so for everyone else who is hyped and currently builds up a new hobgobbo army ” When the changes are confirmed internally, I will see if any base size changes can be made public sooner than the actual rules update. No guarantee, but I would like to make modelling a little easier for everyone.

I'm getting jealous with all these games with Hobgoblins being played. I need to step up my construction.

Quote from Beligua: “Ah and one more question: what Models do you guys use for your huskarls? Best Regards Beli ” Initially I used the Victrix Huskarls with minimal conversions. But lately I think I need to distinguish them more from my other infantry, so I will be looking at remaking them with kite shields and Norman-style face-plates (from Victrix's upcoming Norman cavalry box) to make them look more unique.

Quote from Beligua: “ok what do you think about the 50 Asklanders with GW? ” That will certainly do damage. Against just 10 Warriors with nothing more than a sword they will probably see them off, but will probably take quite a few casualties in the process. Chosen Knights or Feldraks probably do not want to engage that, as they will just get stuck and per HP they are more valuable.

  • Quote from WhammeWhamme: “If we consult the world map (which has faction icons in various places): - SA have icons in Nsisiboko (Taphria) and Aotarakoa (somewhere in the Pacific) - DH have an icon in Kegiz Gavem (Taphria) I'm also confused by "Scandinavia has no representation; what else is Askland? ” I was more talking about the makeup of their main books. Small outposts in other areas wasn't something I had in mind or even fully knew of. And yes Asklanders are as Norse as they come...but I tho…

Quote from Beligua: “@Tyranno yes that really helps. I used the flayer with throwing weapons for chaff and they are really nice for that, i think because of their speed and again shooting but i agree i will pack some hounds. okay What are your thoughts on Wargs ? Are they any good? i thought beside the Kraken they could screen the Archers from the fast Feldrakes for example. ” I will add that I don't think Flayers are all bad, just not good in this matchup. Wargs I personally have not used. But …

  • I am going to pull out my Gumshoes trench coat for this post, as I would like to both speculate and give some thoughts on what I think would be the right area to go in with these last two books, based on what the game already has. So to start of, let's look at what real-world faction each book is roughly based on. This might seem like it should have nothing to do with picking a faction, BUT it actually has a bit more going on under the hood. Armies across the world have fought in different ways,…

Thanks for the tag haha! I would agree that Huskarls with spears are a good choice too. WoDG can't shoot them off, and their magic is not built to handle them either. A block of them with Raven Banner and either BSB or general should see off any of those units your opponent is throwing your way. Throwing weapon Huskarls are very expensive. So they might not be worth the investment. Especially as I would recommend you play a bit more defensive. Asklanders do not have the same offensive power as W…
