  • 9KKfELv.jpg Artisan's Contest XXXIII is up now, and it's an art competition! Draw or paint Hobgoblins. All styles welcome. And plenty of prizes up for grabs as usual.

  • The 1980s were characterized by a wild plethora of all manner of miniature releases, many of which were niche to boot, and which has later been mined for inspiration or reintroduction by studio people. A whole slew of fantasy Regiments of Renown and 40k figures (and background) such as Administratum, Mechanicus personnel, Genestealer Cults and Ambulls, serve as but a few examples. Games Workshop since the 1980s has seen a growth of army book straitjacket, or codex threadmill, and a loss of freew…

  • 1vmS5xz.png Commissariat In the grim darkness of the far future, man is herded into battle at gunpoint. Take a step back and behold our recorded past, with all its lacunae and all its lying word wizardry. Take a step back, and know that history is a race between adaptation and catastrophe. History is driven by fear and greed, occasionally spiced by nobler aspirations yet inevitably reverting to basal appetites, no matter how high and selflessly man may rise to face a challenge. One virtue of his…

  • DIeBl8O.png Confessions of a Disgruntled Inspector In the grim darkness of the far future, there can be no victor. Behold the sprawling realm of man, stretched thin across the starspangled void. Behold its million worlds and uncounted voidholms, where man thrives bitterly under the rule of uncaring overlords. Behold its countless armies and mighty armadas, each host and fleet nothing but a cogwheel in a titanic machinery greased by human blood, sweat and tears. Bear witness to the Imperium of Ma…

  • I just wanted to chip in quickly that community brainstorming and work such as this is a lovely feature of T9A. Great going, folks!

  • @esgaroth: Marvellous diorama piece! Would you please consider sharing these great WIP pictures over on CDO as well? It's got easy image upload, and loads of people who would love to see your Astragoth conversion. Cheers

  • eXUltmN.png Unhinged To the madness of daring, we chant a song. As the reign of terror marches on.

  • ocQecRn.png Futility "Soldiers and lawyers are the devil's playmates." - Ancient Scandian proverb - - - In the grim darkness of the far future, there can be no victors.

  • Quote from Happy Aspid: “ Quote from Jarec: “@Happy Aspid Try clearing cookies? ” It seems the problem connected to country of my origin. I have asked several friends to check the site - everyone encountered same problem. ” Do you have a VPN program? If so, try to set your location somewhere else and see if it works now. Also, great models from John Pickford as ever!

  • The impromptu legal experts counted on rational self-interest dictating GW's actions. Instead of assuming reasonable action based on intelligent self-interest, let us expect people to do something stupid. A lot of things start to make sense when you factor in human stupidity in the equation. Discontinuing WHFB shortly before the release of Total Warhammer 1 was a marketing misstep to say the least. And still it happened. Slamming down on fan content creators rob you of free advertisment and crea…

  • The recently announced Intellectual Property Guidelines of Games Workshop, and their ongoing ramifications in the so-called fandom of Warhammer, stand as yet another point as to why antiquity's complete lack of copyright protection is preferrable to the state of things in the modern world (and I say this as an artist, sculptor and seller of miniatures who could easily see his work copied/recast for profit by others). While GW lawyers almost certainly do not have the legal leg to stand on that th…

  • Wonderful new conversions, as ever! Good loose facemask detail for the musician. @jimmygrill: Imitation is the highest form of compliment. On CDO, tjub's pinhat Chaos Dwarfs were imitated by others ten years ago and less, who also tweaked the style with their own additions every now and then. And surely @Tyranno's glorious conversion works deserves to be either mimicked or to serve as a guiding inspiration as you experiment with your own?

  • A Vox in the Void Paul Graham on a Vox in the Void has laboured to combine three separate pieces into one, namely Quartering, Saw and Hangman. Check out Imperial Justice if you dare, for twenty minutes of bonkers grimdark delivered by a skilled voice actor. - - - ttjZm3U.png Infant Exposure In the grim darkness of the far future, the spawn of man is cast aside as refuse. A careful examination of mortal existence will reveal that it is a matter of lowly hunger and lust, of bestial desperation and…

  • We shall see. My guess is that old square base sizes remain in place, and a separate range for Old World be produced. Choice archive models may also be cast, probably in limited volumes while stock last, or even made available as pricey cast-on-demand models to rake in some of the silly cash that Ebay sellers presently make from regurgitating old miniatures GW has the master moulds for. Warhammer Fantasy veterans are a viable customer group to cater to. Games Workshop is blooming and its finance…

  • Fingers crossed it's good fun and the background and aesthetics are done well. It deserves to be. I also hope T9A keep on trucking, because I see immense freewheeling creative community potential and potential to vastly expand the genre of historically based fantasy here. Let's see if we can eat our cake and keep it. I'm in it for the creative fun, both Warhammer and the Ninth Age, and having a setting free from company whips allows introduction and exploration of factions which such a company h…

  • Yes, local or regional ought to be the name of the game. Norse Dwarves in the Jotun Mountains, perhaps with Slavic Dwarves in the east of the mountain range. Alps and Carpathian Dwarves in the White Mountains (presumably Swiss-Austrians-Romanians/Vlach given the renaissance focus, although Helvetian Celtic-South Germanic-Dacian could be done). Hopefully some Gallic Dwarves in the Maidens and Celtiberian or Basque Dwarves in the Crimson Peaks. Perhaps Nabatean Dwarves in the Copper Mountains and …

  • ouHWwrd.jpg Golden Hat XXXVII is on, and it's a Hobgoblin painting competition. Remember than warriors from other armies in the act of brutally killing Hobgoblins also count. As always, miniature and Warcolours coupon prizes are up for grabs.

  • Ah, so WarplockMonkey finally comes around to do Infernal Dwarves! He was one of the very first sculptors on Chaos Dwarfs Online to launch himself into the world of casting and selling, but it took him almost a decade to heed the bull god's call. Nice Lammasu!

  • Attempt at Summary and Advice Based on feedback here: 1. Book writers may want to redo the army list to open up old possibilities and tricks, and avoid limiting playstyles. This issue may be an acute one, a dealbreaker for many VS players. Please do not ignore it. 2. Unit names may benefit from mostly being generic as per the old version, allowing the background to implicitly use Roman references appropriate for rats: Praetorian treachery, for instance, is appropriate for rats, but the backstory…
