Medal indeed! I like this change. And your opponent can to an extent influence which effect will take place by dropping first and then claiming whether to take the first player turn or not. So, there is some counter play.

Out of curiosity, some time ago it was said that we could expect a new version of the book in September. Thursdays are release days and as it happens today is also the last day of September. So… are we getting an update today?

The topic of Occultism, Daeb Sacrifice, and the Hereditary has been discussed at length and you got all the answers to be expected. Unless the team decides to re-introduce Occultism in an update I declare the topic to be offtopic. Postings on it will be moved to an extra-thread (if I am feeling…

Quote from Kriegschmidt: “This is wonderful: you've produced an anecdote about how happy some tournament players are. I don't think there's any better way you could have proved the point. And as for threats about losing your cool: I don't care. This process invites criticism, it's fair criticism based on several people identifying serious problems at the core of the book, and I'm going to make it, whether you get upset or not. @umbranar : No. I won't. Firstly because I'm trying to get through th…

I like the change made to the warlock outcast. But I have to rethink my current list. Apparently it is OP, containing 24 judicators with Scent of blood/swiftsride banner enchantment and a colossal kraken. I can understand the price raise of the kraken though. However, the judicators (and Obsidian Guard) getting more expensive is something I honestly do not get. Why increase the price of a unit that already has great difficulty getting across the board in one piece? And why discourage bigger unit…

@Cam @DarkSky I already noticed my mistake and edited my post. I’m sorry. Now that that is out of the way, I have to say I like the versatility of the spell. This spell gives a veil token, evocation does, and the effigy of dread does. Love it. You can use those tokens for more magic dice or to expand the effigy’s range or to punish enemies.

Quote from Cam: “No you get to keep it. I imagine it's so the spell is still useful if they don't shoot or whatever. ” Well the magic phase sequence seems to disagree with you. Siphoning the veil is not done at the start of the magic phase, right? But the ‘one turn’ condition limits the spell’s duration to the start of the next magic phase. Edit: oh crap. I need to learn to read, especially the first line of the spell that explicitly states you can keep the veil token. I’m sorry for messing thin…

Am I reading the spell description correctly? Do you get a veil token that can either be used to punish an enemy unit or stored for use in the next magic phase? Or is this wishfull thinking on my part because the ‘One Turn’ condition of the spell prevents you from using it in your next turn’s magic phase (siphon the veil is step 3 and the start of the magic phase is step 1 in the magic phase sequence)? I need some clarification here. If it works the way I hope it does, then its an interesting sp…

I think OG and Judicators are both good units. When it comes to internal balance, then the main reason many players go for OG instead of Judicators is probably that OG are more allround than Judicators. Especially if you give OG a rending banner, their damage output is very good, and no longer obviously worse than Judicators. Furthermore, OG have better OS, DS and Agility, which means they are more reliable (not having to use unreliable magic and still being able to strike first on 2+ is very go…

    Post

I had my first look at the book. I can see that a lot of work, creativity, and thought has been put into this book. That said, I'm not a big fan of the Roman theme for rats. It just doesn't work in my head. But that's just my personal opinion. A more important concern is this: I mainly play Dread Elves and couldn't help myself asking time and time again how on earth DE, or basically any Elves at all, have a fair/decent fighting chance against this iteration of the VS book. My intuitive reaction …

I like the warlock outcast as well. It has flavor and irresistible will is a very strong and unique rule. I understand people dislike the 'not a leader' rule, but to me losing the ability to be a general is acceptable to make it a balanced model. In addition, I'm very happy with the access to paired weapons. It makes the dragon build with hero's heart really a viable option.

I had a game the other day and used a Beastmaster on Manticore. I noticed that a part of the Beastmaster's rule 'Willbreaker's Craft' does not apply to his own mount (the part stipulating that discipline tests are subject to minimized roll) because the Manticore is not a Beast (but Cavalry). Is that deliberate or a mistake/an oversight? It's really odd. Put the beastmaster on a dragon and that part of the rule applies, but put him on a manticore and then it does not apply. I cannot wrap my head …

Quote from SmithF: “Thank you for taking the time to report your experience. I am a bit short on time so apologies in advance for the brief nature of my reply. First off, I think that ID currently pose a challenge for most players (myself included) due to our unfamiliarity with the army in general, but also due to the substantial update that the book received not so long ago. A sure-fire way to lose a battle is to go in unprepared or to be caught off guard, as Sun-Tzu would confirm. I won't comm…
