  • Quote from The Unmarked: “Quote from mr-modmoto: “Spiking potential is surely a thing but so is fluffing. You could argue the same for bound spells, but I guess it does nit make a huge difference in the end. It is much more a personal preference whether you like +1 or one more dice. ” To cast a spell with at least 83% reliability you have to use an additional Magic Dice for spells which have a Casting Value divisible by 3 (6, 9, 12). This is most of our best spells. What this means is that not h…

  • Quote from Feaynnewedd: “I must say that this thread has me a little worried. Data has confirmed that VS was OP prepatch. In the current update, the book has received a heavy buff in various categories. These are both facts. This leads to a now broken book. This is an option, albeit a shared one among a majority of players as it seems. That this is not admitted and we have received no news that a hot fix is inbound, is troubling. VS Lab members do not acknowledge a problem. The debate around LiC…

  • Going to wade into the swamp and throw in my .02-cents into this debate. -I play DL and VS as my main armies. I played DL at ETC this and generally considered myself my teams "anti-VS" player as I felt very confident in the matchup (in part because I play VS a lot and felt like I knew how to exploit the weaknesses). ~ I thought other players had good anti-VS lists as well, but many players on my team were not confident against VS. I believe this lack of confidence from my team stems from not pra…

  • Quote from Feaynnewedd: “Vs Dis bubble is 18" from General to Eagle Standard and then another 8". This means you can have 96% reliable Dis tests in 18+8+8=34". And enough Fearless choices that break some rule (e.g. Random Movement). Again, as stated before, this makes VS the strongest Dis in the game by a large margin. ” This is comedy, right? There are armies in the game for which leadership does not matter for the most part. I've played DL for the last two years, where the only time you care a…

  • Quote from skipschnit: “I find it interesting that this Alchemist and Praetorian combo is thought to be so strong all of a sudden. This combo has been available since day 1 and is a main reason for its design. The only thing that changed was the removal of the self damage since no one took it. The unit combo is at least 800 points and is a special unit that is an 0-1 choice, so it deserves to be more elite for the army. It’s just interesting to me to see how the pendulum swings on things. ” Agre…

  • I don't think +1 OS would be very interesting. It would not matter in too many situations to be worthwhile. Whereas, lightning reflexes always matters. With great weapons you strike at agility, with regular attacks you get +1 to hit. I don't really think its a big deal that the alchemist primarily benefits Veterans (both great weapon and Halberds). Its quite typical that some banners are better for some units than others. At the end of the day he is a character and depending on the game situatio…

  • Quote from Paul: “Quote from BlackLancer: “I do not disagree that something needs to change with the weapon teams. At minimum, they are likely a little too cheap for what they do right now ~Overall, they are in a weird spot balance wise. At least from my perspective, the balance challenge with them is not not entirely dissimilar to the DE book. They are extremely fragile, but they are capable of insane amounts of damage. Armies that have the ranged tools to relatively efficiently remove them mig…

  • Quote from john doc: “I read a report in the DH section recently about a tourney where 3 out of 4 first places were taken by rats. I like the unique flavour the army has and I wouldn't change much of it, but there are a few eye rolling stuff in there. Data will show us the way! ” Can you share the link to the tournament? It does not seem to have been done using New Recruit? Unless you mean the German 1 day 14 player tournament I link below. There have been a couple of tournaments using the new r…

  • I think we need some kind of hot-fix for tunnels. ~ They feel borderline unplayable now. They are extremely easy to block and it is impossible to have more than 1 unit appears from the same tunnel. Additionally, for our rather large skirmishing units, the 6" restriction is quite severe. I am all for the simplification with the main rulebook, but it feels like the outcome has unintended consequences for VS that might have not been fully thought through? If the intent of the simplification was to …

  • Aura of despair is gone? I wonder if Eidolons can get a bit more range to compensate? That was always a nice upgrade on them to stay out of calvary charge range and still shoot. Without a bit more range, and with aura of despair gone, it seems shooting at their ideal target will become more difficult.... Interesting....

  • Yes, fair on the use of the word "invalidate". I suppose what I really meant was "without access to AP1 via the rending banner, are the current builds for these two units still viable?" - Will blocks of 30+ blackfurs still be good without access to a rending banner? Does the Pulpit Poison build still work without access to AP1? (It was already not a very popular choice, but it seems less viable now?) -> Or, does the loss of rending banner not matter at all? (Of course, this is assuming the WDG l…

  • I am not sure anyone else noticed... but the WDG forum leaked that the Rending Banner will disappear in the forthcoming rules update. WDG General Discussion for 2022 It seems like this change will mostly be negative for our Vermin-kin. Core-Blackfurs and Plague Disciples (especially those with the pulpit) regularly took rending banners. Blackfurs being only AP1, and Disciples AP0 (assuming you go poison), really need the extra AP against many targets. Does this invalidate some of the Blackfur an…

  • Team Canada Needs a Merc!

    BlackLancer - - ETC

    Post

Hey All, We unfortunately just had one of our players bail on us at the last minute and are now looking for a Merc. -> If you are hoping to play at ETC this year, please send me a message. Our team is hoping to be somewhat competitive. We've done quite well in a bunch of our online tournaments to prepare, but I don't think anyone expects us to win. Top 10 would be a great result for us. So we are serious, but not too serious. -> If you are interested, send me a message and I can share the detail…

  • Unbreaking VS

BlackLancer - - The Vermin Swarm (VS)

    Post

Quote from skipschnit: “ Why is it that other players think so poorly of the VS shooting? Is it because people aren’t using the right tools? Are people too focused on the magic phase? ” Not that I am doubting you, but could you post a couple of lists you are running? Any tournament results to show for these lists? Given that I'm seeing so few shooty VS lists, and in particular very few shooty VS lists doing well at tournaments, perhaps I am lacking imagination, but I just don't see VS shooting d…

  • Quote from Chronocide: “Quote from setrius: “In that case become in upgrades for Bloodfur Legate ” I think prefects should stay their own entry, as like a hero level character (legate is the lord level one, dictator is more of a special character) But I would suggest changing the VS senator to a Prefect upgrade (which does actually make sense with the VS fluff) rather than it's own Vermin Senator entry. ” I really, really love this idea. If you eliminate the Senator as an entry, but instead are …

  • Quote from The Unmarked: “Quote from WarX: “Why not to move back to idea that VS characters can't end up movement outside units? Simple and 100% effective against chaffing. ” The quick fixes for this crap aren't difficult and several have been proposed. Increased Special Item Allowance, Increased defense stats for the Prefects who are supposed to join fighty units (Fetthis, Skorchit), or more Orator's Togas per Army (0-3 would be great). Adding that self-inflicted damage doesn't count towards Co…

  • Missing Playstyle: Ranged/Combined Arms: I agree with everything @Todesbrot said above. All of our shooting options are generally not good enough. As such, both the guideline styles of 'combined arms' and 'ranged' are not especially viable. Additionally, our access to magic missiles is somewhat limited. (We generally have hand of heaven and wrath of god, but those two are not quite enough to make us a ranged focused army on their own. It would also help if our hereditary was less situational and…

  • If becoming unit champions is not an option, then I think the answer has involve making the Prefect's special rules better. As it stands, the rules are generally not worth their points... OR; perhaps they are close to worth their points, but the playstyle they would support is not exactly competitive. Lets look at the abilities: Fetthis Fleshmaster: - if you had access to a 100pt banner that gave a unit Swift stride, would you take it? Probably not, that is too expensive. Especially if you are p…
