  • Quote from Ivar K: “Wonderful work! The tattoo is my favorite part of the model, it looks perfect and gives character to yhe model. One thing I would have done differently is the damages in the skin. Those small wounds and cuts could have an inflamed look of older scraches. Now they don't really look of being at a living tissue. ” Thanks! You are right about the scratches, I forgot to add blood stains to them! They are supposed to be very fresh. Quote from WastelandWarrior: “absolutely stellar w…

  • Quote from KhaN9292: “Superb work as always! How can you not love a sailor giant with a huge anchor tattooed on his belly? May I ask how you usually go forth when paiting tattoos? I never seem to get the hang of it Bra jobbat! ” Thanks! Tattoos are largely just like any other freehand. You need to think about layers and use thin paints to have control. What sets them apart is that tattoos have to be blended into the background. This means mixing in the skin tone into the paint of the tattoo (usu…

  • Here we go, first mini of 2023, another giant for my OnG army! 40808-22215953-large.jpg 40807-30d83fe3-large.jpg 40809-2e534486-large.jpg 40810-c30b2e41-large.jpg The model is from Games Workshop, with some very minor conversion. It will be used as a Big Brother Giant with Net. I themed it for the Cave Goblin part of my army, which is why he has purple clothing with yellow checkers, a hood and pale skin. Though the giant spent some time with pirates before joining the goblins, which is where he …

  • Really impressive pace you are setting here! Already starting on those Romans Personally I see the Painting Log as primarily documentation, rather than blogging. If you want more interaction, going to the blog section might be a good idea.

  • I just finished my first model of 2023 (a fair bit into 2023 I'm afraid, but at least it is a big model). Currently it is nighttime though, so I can't photograph it until tomorrow. But I figured I'd start the thread now and state my goals for the year. My big goal is to paint more than last year. I've been on a decline in quantity since 2020 and I hope to stop that. I also have a bunch of other goals, a bit more specific than last year: - For UD: - Sha Guardian - Sphinx for UD - Small additions …

  • Quote from McDougall Designs: “@Mad Hat Remember that box of cataphracts I got for Christmas? It was miss-packed with 4 trooper sprues instead of 3. 16 cavalry vs 12! ” Lol, that's awesome! The gift that keeps on giving

Quote from dan: “Yeah the categories are purely for organizational purposes, it’s not a commentary on background but an oversimplified way to group factions in a way that would make sense for a rivalry. We could just as easily rename them “Team A” and “Team B”, but Order/Destruction seemed slightly more evocative and - whether or not the terms are technically correct - seem like they’re probably good enough for the purpose of a painting league. ” I would much prefer Team A & B. EDIT: Or maybe Te…

  • Quote from Glonojad: “Excellent classic paintjob! Is it a model for a specific Knightly Order? ” It painted in the same theme as my unit of Knights, but I don't have any particular fluff imagined for them yet.

Quote from Kapten Kluns: “Lovely as always. Id love to do a painting session sometime, could probably learn a bunch from you. Looking forward to the next piece. ” Thank you! That would be nice, I'm sure I could learn a lot from you too

  • Quote from Bsking: “Love it! Where is the model from? ” Thanks! It's some old GW Empire miniature, but I'm not sure which exactly. The head of the horse is from an old Blood Dragon vampire though.

  • I'm squeezing in another two points right before the end of the year. Behold my Knight Commander: 40629-f570a10d-large.jpg

Painted up a Knight Commander for the army as a final little project for the year. 40629-f570a10d-large.jpg The miniature is some old thing from GW, not exactly sure what. I gave the horse a metal head though, probably from some old mounted vampire blister. For painting I went for the same theme as my knights, green barding and gold armour. Although the armour ended up more bronze than gold it seems. My gold recipe seems to work well for smaller things, but for larger parts I might need to make …

  • I picked up my gift from the post office today! I opened it out and found out that I wasn't the first to do so. Customs had had a look though it, I wonder what they thought... mozFFB2.jpg Beneath that I found a bunch of minis, sweets, tea and whiskey (also two mysterious green rods that I am unsure about the purpose of):V30PzHq.jpg There was a wyvern and three Orc characters in there, along with some terrain: 1T2s6IP.jpg Many thanks to my Secret Santa for this wonderful gift! Orc characters are …

  • Quote from kisanis: “Nice! Where are the minis from? ” The cannons are from Soul Dark, with crew from Mantic. Both with some conversion. I added wood panels to the cannons to make them slightly more fantasyesque.

Another addition to the army, even more Rakachit stuff, this time two Mauss Rifles: 40607-ca005e93-large.jpg The models are the Techno-Deamon Cannon from Soul Dark, which are insanely cheap at $3 each, but still really good quality. I converted them slightly by sculpting wood panels where the original model has runes, adding a platform for the scope on one of them, and replacing the scope with some techno stuff on the other. I also added crew built from the Mantic Ratkin kit.

  • Finished up the next project, two Rakachit Mauss Rifles for my VS army: 40607-ca005e93-large.jpg
