PostQuote from Feanor83: “(Hidden Content) This one for example. I was also testing big core block, baby Tauruks and only little magic in this one (with decent success against WotDG). ” You've got 5 points there, that prophet or overlord needs a gun.

PostI've managed 41 wounds with two flamers in one turn before (gunnery team and an infernal artillery). I spiked very high on hit rolls, had rerolls and was in range for multiwounds on both. They can do incredibly well but it does take a lot of setup to get a chance at a result like that. Just like I've had every 5+ shot miss on my bastion blunderbusses and I've also had 18 hits from 20 shots, it's a dice game.

PostRaven's Wing is an amazing threat for 105pts of Vassal Conjurer though. Yeah, it's usually blocked but that has value too. I've had many an opponent throw all their dice at it which means I get an unencumbered flaming swords aura off. The Titan is pretty mediocre on its own but with a unit of vassals and blunderbusses it shines. That's the way with a lot of units in the book and also why so many get punished by theory hammerers, they can be amazing if played right but they can also be an expensi…

PostQuote from Shimsham: “Just got my butt handed to me again in a 3000pt game. With all the limitations halved its so damn hard to put a decent list together. ” Yeah, I'm finding it a challenge with the current book too. Especially because I've found a broken HBE list that's tempting me instead. 3k relies a lot on gimmicky lists where you have some killer combo to carry the list (because everything else non-fluffy is also killer combos). ID really suffer with the format at the moment because you en…

PostI've rolled 40 dice for DTs before and not lost a model or lost 19 models. It's a game of chance. Thematically, I like the idea of half the unit tripping over and dying because they were told to go faster. It's not inflation if you don't use it, no one is forcing you to march your slaves. Slaves are better than zombies (except scoring, don't give them scoring). They need a downside. The current rules are fun and have tactical advantages and disadvantages. I liked the previous rules too but they …

PostI don't understand why people are upset about throwing 40 dice. I love throwing 40 dice. I wouldn't play multiple units of 30+ infantry if I didn't love throwing lots of dice. As for unstable, Slaves were less balanced before unstable as steadfast meant that they could hang around for a very, very long time. Unstable at least timeboxes that (and means slicey combat units have a way of getting lots of models killed). I'm happy with the changes in the update. It gives them some variety and feeling…

PostQuote from Squirrelloid: “Quote from Kriegschmidt: “Quote from Tsagadai: “My point was more that the rear model cannot move more than the march range. If you move all the way forward and wheel with a big unit that model is almost certainly going to be further than it's march distance from the starting location. It's a point where many players are not following rules as written but not one I pull people up for unless it is particularly egregious (like a 10 rank unit going forward max and wheeling…

PostQuote from Kriegschmidt: “Quote from SlaveToThePyre: “I agree with you guys but I don't see how Tsagadai's statement is wrong. Can you please explain it in detail? ” Because Tsagadai's statement implies that you measure all of the individual movements that every model does, then add them all up for each model. So in Tsagadai's example: the unit moves, say, 3" forwards, unit wheels 1" meaning a rear corner model moves another 4", then the unit moves another 5" forwards. This wrongly concludes tha…

PostAs for tournaments, I usually play singles. If you take the typical "good" teams list to that kind of event you are unlikely to win because someone will have a hard counter for it (usually horde infantry but also some wicked avoidance lists). ID have real problems getting over a 50% win rate in singles events (I haven't seen it once in the last few years). I still play them because I enjoy playing them and I like my models but if I was a play to win player I'd be playing something else. I feel t…

PostYeah, to not be cheating movement with bastion units you are either going straight forward or swift reforming. Even a 1" wheel is ~4" for the back models.

PostMore on CG and gunnery teams. I once played a list with three units of 17 and three gunnary teams against DH massed infantry. Filled out the rest of the army with taurukhs, lugars and immortals. It was a mean match up and the CG and gunnery teams shreded the dwarves. That's what situational means, if you have oodles of guns pointing down a chokepoint and your opponent has nothing that can stop that then they'll have a bad day. It doesn't make them usable or effective units just because they shre…

PostQuote from Tyranno: “Quote from Skarab86: “And External balance? When will be the next? Because this is really ridiculous... ” Nothing concrete, but going by trends, best assumption would be November/December 2023 at the earliest. ” That may be a death knell for the project then. A significant volume of players here (Australia) are starting to look at other systems after the last update. Sure, there will still be an ETC team but it'll die at the club level if no serious updates happen between no…

PostI don't think ID need to be the best, @berti. At the moment it feels like playing with one hand tied behind your back and all because of one particular army list style that only really sees play in team events. I just want ID to not completely suck in singles events, is that too much to ask?

PostI think we need less restrictions rather than more. Talk of removing march and shoot, SiER and limiting bastion's to march 6" are all silly. The shooting phase is already underwhelming because for whatever reason the designers do not want shooting to be game winning at all. Even the cap on 60 pistols, flintlocks and blunderbusses is silly; anyone who wants to just ignore it and play 100 shooting core troops will see that the cap is largely pointless because 2000 points of core troops are not gam…

I play a lot of 3k/3.5k so here are some pointers. - Unless they are restricted someone is going to play a hard to kill dragon, you need a way of consistently killing a dragon lord or a list that can avoid it. - The Infernal Engine and *sphinxes are a pain in the neck to deal with for many armies. Some lists at that points level have absolutely no way to easily kill a res7 unbreakable. - Magic is usually overrated. Two adepts are almost always better than a master, especially prophets because th…

PostQuote from Grimbold Blackhammer: “Mathematically +1 ST and +1 AP is a +2 points per attack upgrade on a model. In cases where a model loses Parry, it should only cost 1 point per attack on a model but that's not the case with Immortals. I think in their case however, the Great Weapon & Spear choices being free simply overwhelms the Infernal Weapons choice. It is priced properly but why pay 2 points per model when you don't have to?! Taurukh Anointed however should be paying 4 points for their In…
